Rep. R. Rodriguez ranks 2 in nationwide job performance

C AG AYA N D E O R O CITY:Deputy Speaker and Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez ranked second in the top 10 job performance survey among 300 house representatives in

Congress.

The RP-Mission and Development Foundation Incorporated conducted a public satisfaction survey on February 22-28, 2022.

The survey result sent to the Mindanao Daily News had Rodriguez earning 91

percent job performance rating from respondents in the entire Philippines.

The same survey also had another Mindanaonon lawmaker Rep. Paolo Duterte from Davao City in the Top 9 performance satisfaction rating at 81 percent.

In a statement, Rodriguez said he was honored being ranked second in the nationwide job performance survey and dedicated the recognition to the constituents in Cagayan de Oro City House Sp eaker and Marinduque Rep. Lord

Velasco with a 90 percent performance rating was ranked number 3.

PhilHealth awards pioneering ‘Konsulta’ centers in NorMin

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation in Northern Mindanao (PhilHealth–10) recognized Tuesday the three pioneering institutions that catered to the public its “Konsulta” program since last year.

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The prices of some basic commodities have increased by as much as 12 percent following the spike in fuel prices the past several weeks, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reported Wednesday.

DTI Provincial Director Grace Aduca warned businesses caught violating the suggested retail price (SRP) of basic and prime commodities will face penalties, including imprisonment.

“We have a monitoring team that checks the price of various products within our jurisdiction,” Aduca said in a statement.

Basic commodities are daily household necessities that include food and nonfood items.

Oil companies implemented double-digit price hikes effective Tuesday, marking the 11th straight week of increases with pump prices.

DILG MisOcc conducts SBDP inspection in Tangub MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL -- The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Misamis Occidental Project Development and Management Unit (PDMU) engineers in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Tangub City conducted final project inspection of two completed farm-tomarket road projects in Barangays San Antonio and Sicot, Tangub City.

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur -- Philippine Army commanding general Lt.Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. just celebrated the 125th founding anniversary of the Philippine Army Monday, March 14, with troops of the 103rd Infantry Brigade in the city.

He conveyed that he chose to be in the brigade as he was its former commander way back when the siege here ignited.

In his visit, Brawner recalled that the Philippine Army was founded on March 22, 1897 by their forefathers with the first commanding general then General Artemio Ricarte, and 125 years after that 100,000 strong members of

the army remain standing before everyone, proud of their history and committed to serving the Filipino people.

He shared that in the previous years, they would usually limit the celebration of their anniversary to their headquarters wherein top officials would remain at Fort Bonifacio but this year made a change.

“This year, because it is a special year with 125 years, sinabi ko sa aking mga [I told my] staff at the headquarters that I want our troops in the field to feel and celebrate this important milestone,” said Brawner in his speech.

As such, some of the top officials personally went to particular headquarters

to give themselves the anniversary package to the troops of the units in the area, including the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU).

Philippine Army chief of staff MGen. Roberto Capulong went to the 5th Infantry Division and stayed at the headquarters of the 95th Infantry Battalion to hand the packages to units in Luzon and represent the battalion level.

“We just finished the conduct of orientation of the teachers about election protocols,” Mangkabung said in an interview.

Nearly 300 teachers have been tasked to serve as Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) and poll clerks for the polls in Lamitan City, she said.

However, Mangkabung said one of the big challenges they expect to face on election day is Internet connectivity, as most of the precincts in Lamitan City are off-grid.

Another problem, she pointed out, is the frequent power interruptions in Lamitan City.

Blind But Can See (Part II)

SOMETIME In 2016, no less than President Rodrigo Roa Duterte visited and embraced a brave 31-yr-old 1st Lt. soldier by the name of Jerome Jacuba who was then lying in bed totally blind in V Luna Hospital in Quezon City. His blindness was an offshoot of a battle he bravely fought in Maguindanao, manifesting a courageous stand against those forces who fought to put Mindanao in their stranglehold. A year after that, I together with my key staff in the Cooperative Development Authority touched base with these gallant blind and wounded soldiers and upon their request, organized them as Wounded Soldiers Agriculture Cooperative as they are facing bravely another war – that is, the war against poverty.

That year during the height of the Marawi Crisis, I brought Lt. Jacuba, the elected Chairman of the Cooperative and some Coop officers to Marawi and had them met in a Cooperative Summit the cooperatives of the displaced persons (IDPs) who were former combatants of the MILF & MNLF who were then organized into cooperatives but who

were once in combat with the military where 1st Lt. Jerome Jacuba was leading.

This time, they belong to one family, the cooperative family.

I then told 1st Lt. Jacuba that in front of him were thousands of former MILF/ MNLF combatants who like the wounded soldiers are now cooperative members. In his speech, 1st Lt. Jacuba declared: BEFORE WHEN I HAVE EYES, I COULD NOT SEE; TODAY THAT I AM BLIND, I CAN SEE THT THE WAR IN MINDANAO CANNOT BE STOPPED THROUGH ARMS AND BULLETS BUT THROUGH COOPERATIVISM BY EMPOWERING THE POOR AND THE OPPRESSED TO FIGHT POVERTY, GROSS INEQUITIES AND SOCIAL INJUSTICES - THE ROOT CAUSES OF MINDANAO WAR. ANG PROBLEMA PALA AY KAHIRAPAN AT SOCIAL INJUSTICES AT ANG PANGLABAN PALA AY HINDI BARIL O BALA KUNG HINDI ANG PAGKAKAISA PARA LABANAN ANG ECONOMIC CONTROL NG IILAN!” Yes, Chairman JJ as I call him, may be physically blind but not so economically,

socially, politically and more so, spiritually. What is even more amazing is that Chairman JJ and all the wounded soldiers and all the former MNLF\MILF combatants are now being assisted by the cooperatives nation-wide through the “Koop Kapatid Progam” to regain hope and to fight another “war,” this time, against poverty, gross social inequities and social injustice. Through cooperativism, there are a lot to see and to discover.

Indeed, we are living in a world that is changing profoundly, where extraordinary phenomena are becoming ordinary, deepening inequality, decline in social justice, ecological turbulence due to climate change and violent extremism that even created a Filipino suicidal bomber. There is apparently a dysfunction of the present development model that is the growthat-all-cost that is likened to a giant-off-balance. So as not to fall, it has to run and in running, it steps on communities, forests, seas, rivers, agricultural lands and even on people, especially the poor and See BLIND, page 11

The true value of suffering

“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.” (Mt 20,18-19)

WITH these words, we have to understand that like Christ we have to learn to suffer, to see the redemptive value of suffering. We have to realize that in this life of ours in this world, we can never avoid suffering in one form or another.

Suffering is part of our human condition that is wounded by sin and all sorts of weaknesses and our natural human limitations, and the fact that we are meant to live a supernatural life which we can never attain unless we are truly with God, and the fact is, we seldom are truly with God. We can only be completely suffering-free when we are with God in heaven.

But we are given a way of how to handle our suffering properly, to the extent of converting our suffering as a way to our own salvation and eternal happiness. And that is always to follow the

example of Christ as he went through all the suffering in his redemptive life here on earth.

We have to be willing to suffer the way Christ suffered for all of us. That way, we attain the true essence of our humanity which is love, channeling the love of God for us in us. No wonder then that Christ himself said: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

(Jn 15,13) No wonder also that as St. Peter said in his first Letter, “He (Christ) did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.” (2,23) We have to learn to restrain our urge to make revenge whenever we are offended in some way by others.

It is this willingness to suffer that would show how, like Christ, we can go all the way to giving ourselves completely to everyone, irrespective of how they are.

That is also why Christ commanded us, as an integral component of true love, that we even love our enemies.

In true love, the lover goes all the way to identifying himself with the beloved

with the view of giving the beloved what is objectively good for both the lover and the beloved. There is a kind of unification between the two that is based on what is objectively good for both.

We have to train ourselves to develop this kind of love. And we can use the usual conditions, concerns, and circumstances in our daily dealings with others to develop that kind of love.

Whenever some differences and conflicts occur among ourselves, we should be willing to suffer for the others, bearing their burdens, even if we also try to sort out and settle these differences and conflicts as peacefully and charitably as possible.

This willingness to suffer should be an active thing, not a passive one, waiting for suffering to come. We have to look for the opportunities to suffer. That would be a real proof that we are truly in love. What is more, such attitude would help us in protecting ourselves from temptations, sins, and all other forms of evil!

MANILA – The government prefers targeted subsidy over the suspension of excise tax on fuel products because the latter has long-term negative impact on government revenues and the economy, a Department of Finance (DOF) executive said.

During the virtual Laging Handa briefing on Tuesday, DOF Undersecretary Paola Alvarez said fuel consumption of those belonging to

the higher bracket of society has the bigger share at around 48.8 percent while lower income households’ share is around 13.8 percent.

Thus, suspension of the excise tax of fuel products will benefit the higher income households but is detrimental to the government through lower tax collection, which, in turn, will impact the poor since the government will have lesser funding for its social

services program, she said.

Alvarez said there are two measures in Congress that are calling for temporary suspension of excise tax on fuel.

Containing an area of TEN THOUSAND (10,000.00) square meters, more or less.”

That at the time of his death, the deceased left no last will and testament and had no debts left unpaid.

That no personal properties are involved in this extrajudicial settlement; That by virtue of the provisions of Rule 74 of Rules of Court, we the heirs of the late, MARCELO C. HIDALGO, hereby extra judicially adjudicate unto themselves the entire above-described parcel of Agricultural land pursuant to Rule 74, Sec. 1 of the Revised Rules of Court of the Philippines, and both being with full capacity to contract, we do hereby adjudicate unto ourselves the above-described parcel of Agricultural land in equal share.

That petitioners are husband and wife respectively in a marriage performed under Muslim rite on October 5, 2013 at Iligan City, both petitioner’s had been converted to Muslim and thereby embraced Islam Religion as their new found faith, by virtue of their respective intellectual choices which were duly registered with this Court, both of them can be served summons and other legal processes relative to this case at their resident at Purok 3A, Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental and Purok 5, Poblacion, Salvador, Lanao del Norte, respectively; That said marriage did not last long due to lack of love and affection until the relationship manifested incompatibility and sustained misunderstanding between petitioners and reached the point of irreconcilability and they separated for each other for some reason of which both petitioner finally decided to legally break or severe their marriage bond for more than two (2) years now, they decided to separate live physically in bed and board, thereby, executed Memorandum of Agreement in order to formalize their separation. Since their separation, they had never been communicating or supporting either financially or emotionally to each other, neither minding each other affair’s; petitioner seek judicial decree of divorce, thereby, severing their marriage bond on October 5, 2013 so that they will have free hand to do what a single man or woman could do without marital burdens. Reconciliation between them had already been diligently employed but all proved futile.

WHEREFORE, finding this petition to be sufficient in form and substance, set the initial hearing of this case on March 29, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at which time, date and place. Any interested party may appear and show why the petition should not be granted. Let copy of this Order be published in newspaper of General Circulation in the City of Iligan once a week for three (3) consecutive weeks at the expense of the petitioners.
