Bp. Carlo Morales was freed from prison at around 6pm yesterday, March 15, 2018, after posting bail. The judge in Ozamis City court granted his petition to bail following four hearings within the span of 309 days. He was imprisoned due to trumped-up case of illegal possession of explosive. He was arrested on May 11, 2017 together with his wife, Darling, church driver, Doming, and Romel Salinas, a card-bearing and JASIG protected NDFP consultant. On a phone conversation some mInutes after his release from prison, he said he is fine and well and ready to resume work, free, outside from jail. RTWPB-X conducts Productivity Toolbox Trainings for First Quarter CY2018 to Various MSMEs in Cagayan de Oro City R egional Tripar tite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB-X) conducts a one-day Productivity Toolbox training in four (4) streams on February 21 and 28, 2018 in Pearlmont Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City. The first leg of Productivity Toolbox Trainings were conducted on Febru-

ary 21, 2018 divided into streams to wit: 1) Green Productivity Training; 2) Retail and Service Sector (Merchandising and Visual Merchandising); 3) ISTIVProductivity Awareness Program and; 4) 5S of Good Housekeeping Training Program. Attendees were Forty-Nine (49) MSMEs

and Fifty-Three (53) participants that were equally distributed by streams according to businesses’ appropriate program need. Subsequently, the second segment training was conducted in February 28, 2018 in two (2) streams with topics on, 1) Service Quality for Key Employ-

ment Generators; and 2) ISTIV-Bayanihan for Micro-Small and Medium Enterprises. Generally, the participants showed their enthusiasm and readiness to learn and mostly are beginners to the program. On the other hand, the training team demonstrated the effectiveness in encouraging the clients to think and cross-communicate ideas and steered them to identify and adapt best practices. The training programs and consulting services from NWPC/RTWPBs are provided at NO COST. Enterprises which are considered as MSMEs may avail of the Productivity Toolbox which is consists of a package of training programs and technical assistance to improve the capability and motivation of enterprises to adopt productivity technologies for continuous improvement toward enterprise develop-

ment and growth. Developing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) is an important strategy in the path to in-

clusive growth since MSMEs account for 99% of total establishments and 61% of total employment in the country.

Yamaha Technician Grand Prix culminates in Davao City

The Yamaha National Technician Grand Prix (NTGP) is a Global competition that is held in different countries around the world. Its purpose is to raise the skill and knowledge of technicians to better serve customers. It started with 180 specialists in the Regional Technician Grand Prix and only the top 10 made it to the final round. After, they headed to SM City Davao for the Practical Test. Surrounded by a crowd in the time pressured exam that was limited to 90 minutes. Prayer is the Portal of Power “Prayer is man’s greatest power!” Prayer is simply talking to God like a friend. That is the easiest thing to do. There is no excuse why we don’t go to God in prayer each day, to receive that supernatural strength and power only He can give. Sometimes, our own wisdom and efforts are not sufficient to carry us through the day. So we are driven many times upon our knees, by the overwhelming conviction that we have no where else to go, but to our heavenly Master. Prayer is not asking. Prayer is putting ourselves in the hands of God, at His disposition, surrendered to Him, and listening to His voice as we receive and obey His divine commands. One the greatest example of prayer is George Mueller, the prayer warrior who established many orphan-

ages and helped thousands of orphans. The man had no money in his pocket, only faith-filled prayer in his heart. This story came from the captain of a ship who witnessed the power of prayer first hand from George Mueller. The captain himself became a man of prayer after this experience. One day he was commanding a ship headed for Quebec Canada, with George Mueller on board. Off Newfoundland, the weather turned cold and the ship’s progress was seriously retarded by a thick fog. The captain had been on the bridge for 24 hours when something happened which was to revolutionize his life. George Mueller appeared on the bridge. “Captain, I have come to tell you I must be in Quebec by Saturday

afternoon.” “It is impossible,” said the captain. Mueller said, “If your ship cannot take me, God will find some other way. I have never broken an engagement for 52 years. Let us go down into the chart-room and pray.” The Captain wondered which lunatic asylum Mueller had come from. “Mr. Mueller,” he said, “can you not see how dense this fog is?” Mueller replied, “No, my eye is not on the density of the fog, but on the living God, who controls every circumstance of my life.” Mueller then knelt down and prayed simply. When he had finished, the captain was about to pray, but Mueller put his hand on his shoulder, and told him not to. Mueller said, “First, you

do not believe God will answer. Second, I believe He has, and there is no need for you to pray about it.” The captain looked at Mueller in amazement. Mueller continued, “Captain, I have known my Lord for 52 years, and there has never been a single day that I have failed to get an audience with the King. Get up, captain, and open the door. You will find the fog is gone.” The captain doubtfully walked across to the door and opened it. To his amazement, the fog had lifted. The way was clear. Have You Served Your Lord Today? “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate. It is to make some difference in the world, because you have lived in it.” Many people are living miserable lives, running around in circles without any purpose. We fritter away our valuable and limited time in pursuit of fleeting pleasures and honors. We are slaves serving a cruel taskmaster. That brutal master is our nagging self and its endless needs. In our frantic exertions, we don’t even have time to look up and reflect on eternity, where we shall be going shortly. Jesus says, “Only those people who are using their lives for My sake and the sake of the Gospel, will ever know what it means to really live.” That is the purpose of life.

Jesus is what makes life meaningful. If you are not serving Him, you are not living. You are just existing. I read this old story with its timeless message. Conrad is a poor shoemaker. One night the Lord appeared to him in a dream. The Lord said, “I am coming to your house as a Guest tomorrow.” Early the next morning, Conrad closed his little shop and stayed home to clean and prepare his house for his honored Guest. The floor was scrubbed, the walls were washed and the furniture was shined. The table was spread, where he put milk, honey and bread. He imagined that when the Lord would enter his lowly door, he would offer Him the cup of milk. Then he would kneel before Him and wash The Lord’s feet, where the sharp metal spike was

hammered. He would kiss the hands which the cruel nails have pierced. Then he would sit and break bread with Him, and listen to His words that would flow like molten gold. So Conrad sat and waited. The day at last grew dark. The rain began to fall in torrents. A beggar passed by his window drenched in the rain. Conrad called him in. He saw that the beggar’s feet were bruised because he had no shoes. So he gave him a pair. The beggar thanked him and went on his way. After a while, a wrinkled old woman with a mournful face passed by. She carried a heavy bundle of firewood on her back. She was bent and bowed with the weight of care and sorrow. Think a minute… Can you imagine an engineer building a tall skyscraper without a plan? Someone said: “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” Success is no accident! It doesn’t just magically happen. You have to plan for it to happen. As one guy put it: “You must plan for a great future. After all, you have to spend the rest of your life there.” We must have some kind of plan of what we want and how we’ll get it. You see, if you shoot for nothing you’ll hit it every time! A wise person said:

“If you’ve accomplished everything you’ve planned in life, then you’ve probably not planned enough. You’re getting too old when all your dreams are reruns.” The very successful head of the Chrysler Automobile Corporation, Lee Iacocca, used to ask his workers: “What do you want to do? What do you want to be? What do you want to have? Where do you want to go? How do you plan to get there? Write it down. Now go do it. It doesn’t get any simpler or better than that.” So why not start liv-

ing your life on purpose? First dream it, then do it. They say that 1 hour of planning will save you 3 hours of wasted time and work. With a plan, your work is working for you! Your plan will keep you in control of your life, moving ahead toward your goal of success and happiness. But after you plan your work, you have to work your plan. Discipline is what brings your dreams into real life. A dream with no discipline will just remain a dream, and a plan without work will be a plan that won’t

LEARNING IS FUN AND MEANINGFUL! By LILIBETH B. OBESO Administrative Assistant II Correspondent

At first, I cannot figure out what drives me into the teaching profession. I supposed teaching is not easy since teachers are not just teaching knowledge per se but also set as an example to student’s proper conduct and demeanours. Hence, teachers are expected to be morally upright to substantiate that teaching is indeed the noblest profession of all. A teacher is not just limited to simply feed knowledge to the students; a teacher needs to be well-versed in cascading the topic supplemented with varied instructional materials and activities appropriate to the achievement of the learning outcomes. Of course, with an appropriate teaching methods and strategies which enables the students to connect to the topic while having fun learning at school and that learning will be meaningful them. Hence, effective teacher facilitates the students to connect to the topic and to the student’s day-to-day life experiences. Hence, effective teachers are deemed to motivate the students to

go to school every day to learn and build the student’s self-esteem, confidence and rapport. Eventually, the students will be able to develop their love and enthusiasm in learning because I believe student’s interest in learning begins when they found out that learning is fun and meaningful! I can still recall in my elementary years, I was motivated to go to school and even more enthusiastic to participate to school activities to earn more points and reward in every correct responses and appropriate behaviour. I could say that the use of rewards was very effective in the achievement of the student’s desired behaviour and performances as this was my personal experience long before when I was a student. The reward serves as my motivation to behave and perform well to achieve good grades and maintain my academic standing. Therefore, I could say I was really having fun learning at school. Now that I am inclined to step to the real world of teaching, I am looking forward to see my students to have fun learning in school and that the lessons will be meaningful to my students. I supposed class lessons and activities should relate to the student’s day-to-day life experiences so that they may be able to appreciate how knowledge is

interconnected to our daily living. For instance, in the subject for Mathematics, lessons should relate to the student’s experiences as possible as we could for them to be able to appreciate that Mathematics is everywhere and that it is all around us! Another example, is the sub-

ject in Social Studies, lessons in the Social Studies must not just focus on the mere fact of historical events but rather to have an in-depth understanding of the issues that will enable the students to develop their critical thinking and creativity so that they may be able to connect the

topic to what is happening around us and to the society and that they may be able to apply what they have learned in school. Gradually, teachers are able to build in them their love for country and fellowmen and help them become more responsible and productive citizens of our country. To conclude, effective

teachers must not rely to the traditional methods of teaching but must be resourceful enough to explore with varied teaching methods and strategies that will ignite the student’s enthusiasm in learning while connecting the topic to the student’s day-to-day life experience. That’s what I think how learning would be fun and meaningful!

DTI partners with DICT for free internet, online learning in Negosyo Centers

Makati – Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon M. Lopez and Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Eliseo M. Rio Jr signed a Memorandum of Agreement on 15 March 2018 to provide free wi-fi and learning modules to DTI’s Negosyo Centers. Through the agreement, DICT will provide selected DTI Negosyo Centers with free internet access, ICT equipment, and access to its Tech4ED Project. DICT ’s Pip olKonek Project gives free internet access to public places such as public schools, libraries, and local government units. To date, PipolKonek has already provided internet access to 44 out of the current 805 Negosyo Centers. Negosyo Centers will also carry DICT’s Tech4ED Project, a platform that DTI Secretary Ramon M. MANILA -- Sales of vehicles in the country reached 26,176 units year-on-year in February 2018, down by 3.2 percent from 27,040 units year-on-year in February 2017, Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers in the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) reported Thursday. Sales of passenger cars dropped to 8,192 units or 10.1 percent in February 2018 from 9,114 units in the same month last year. Year-on-year sales of commercial vehicles remained almost flat at 17,984 units last month from February 2017’s sales of 17,926 units. Double-digit decrements were registered in the local vehicle industry month-onmonth. Overall sales decreased by 17.3 percent last month compared to January 2018’s 31,645 units. Sales of passenger cars and commercial vehicles both declined by 16.3 percent and 17.7 percent, respectively, in February this year from the segments’ sales in January. “The slight decrease in February sales compared to the same period last year suggests that the market is still adjusting to the new excise tax regime,” CAMPI President Rommel Gutierrez said. TEACHERS’ IMPACT: ON THE LIVES OF THE KIDS By JULIUS J. BAYUDAN, T-1 Imbatug Central Elementary School

Many of us have had at some point in our lives a wonderful teacher, one whose value, in retrospect, seems inestimable. We do not pretend here to know how to calculate the lifetransforming effects that such teachers can have with particular students. But we can calculate more prosaic economic values related to effective teaching, by drawing on a research literature that provides surprisingly precise estimates of the impact of student achievement levels on their lifetime earnings and by combining this estimated

impacts of more-effective teachers on student achievement. Let’s start with the researcher’s point of view. With a normal distribution of performance (the classic bell curve), a standard deviation is simply a more precise measure of how spread out the distribution is. Somebody who is one standard deviation above average would be at the 84th percentile of the distribution. If we then turn to the labor market, a student with achievement (as measured by test performance in high school) that is one standard

deviation above average can later in life expect to take in 10 to 15 percent higher earnings per year. How do increases in teacher effectiveness relate to this? Obviously, teacher quality is not the only factor that affects student achievement. The student’s own motivations and support from family and peers play crucial roles as well. But researchers have worked hard to isolate the impact of teachers from these other influences. Rigorous studies consistently show that the impact of a moreeffective teacher is substantial. A high-performing teacher, one at the 84th percentile of all teachers, when compared

with just an average teacher, produces students whose level of achievement is at least 0.2 standard deviations higher by the end of the school year. In fact, the impact of having such a teacher could plausibly be as large as 0.3 standard deviations. Those impacts attenuate somewhat over time, however. The literature, though less than definitive, suggests that perhaps 70 percent of the gains achieved that year are retained in the long run by the student. The persistence of achievement gains is important, because the more sustained that these increases are the greater the positive im-

pact teachers will have on the lifetime skills and therefore the earnings of students. Dabawenyos to feast on Araw ng Dabaw

DAVAO CITY -- The Davao City government will give 10,000 food packs to the Dabawenyos during the culmination day of the 81st Araw ng Davao Friday, March 16. City Human Resource Management Office head Er win Alparaque, who leads the Parada Dabawenyo Committee, bared on Thursday’s I-Speak Media Forum that Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has invited the city residents to go out to celebrate the founding anniversary of Davao. Alparaque said the food packs are open to all people and will be distributed after the Parada Dabwenyo, a civic–military parade as one of the culminating activities of Araw ng Dabaw. “Maski dili siya taga Davao basta naa siya sa Parada Dabawenyo nagtan-aw

DAVAO CITY -- Davao City is placed on maximum security as it culminates its week-long 81st Araw ng Dabaw celebration with a civic military parade Friday, March 16 when thousands of Dabawenyos are expected to fill city streets and the Rizal Park, the main venue of the festivities. The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) will deploy an estimated 5,000 police personnel plus security forces along the route of the Parada Dabawenyo starting from Roxas Avenue to Rizal Park.

City Chief of Police Sr. Supt. Alexander Tagum said stricter security measures and implementation of the do’s and don’ts would be in place. People going to the venue are discouraged from wearing caps, shades, bringing of backpacks, bottled water, bladed weapons. People will be frisked thoroughly. Tagum said authorities would be conducting extreme measures as part of preventing people from creating trouble. “We are monitoring the threat groups especially the

“A campaign for awareness of the Anti-Bullying”

Every student has its own unique potentials and capabilities, so as have different areas and levels of difficulties. There are several underlying factors of the student’s difficulties in learning which has resulted to the truncated performances of the students at school. Among those underlying factors, I’d like to put emphasis on the issue of bullying since it had caused so much distress of the student’s physical, mental, emotional, and social wellbeing. Those are the reasons why I put my personal views and opinions into writing as a campaign for awareness of the anti-bullying hoping that somehow it could lessen its occurrences and therefore, could lessen the number of

the bullied students. Bullying is a form of an abuse that causes intimidation and oppression due to mistreatment or maltreatment. The anti-bullying act of 2013 also known as Republic Act 10627 section# 2, defines the acts of bullying as “any severe or repeated use by one or more students of a written, verbal or electronic expression, or a physical act or gesture, or any combination thereof, directed at another student that has the effect of actually causing or placing the latter in reasonable fear of physical or emotional harm or damage to his property; creating a hostile environment at school for the other student; infringing on the rights of the other student at school; or materially and substantially disrupting the education process or

The effects of bullying are degrading to the students’ self-esteem and confidence; this has caused so much anxiety and depression to the victim that may lead to death and even to commit suicide. Depression caused by bullying allegedly resulted to the incidence of suicides usually in teens nowadays. The use of technology through the social media, offensive comments spread immediately to other networking sites that can be multiplied to a thousand times in a blink of an eye. Thus, the power of social media is never underestimated in terms of speed in the transmission of messages and videos. This saw the birth of the Anti-Bullying

Law to protect the child from these kind of abuses due to bullying. Although, anti-bullying law is in place, however many are still not informed of this as a law. The Department of Education specifically the Policy, Planning and Research Division in their Basic Education Research Agenda features the “Child Protection” in their publication for “Diyes is it”, the department’s periodic newsletter that aims to focus on research questions on the current policies, programs and interventions to ensure that every learner is safe inside the school. This was among the endeavours of the Department of Education to preserve and protect the right of every Filipino child. The conduct for an information drive to every school and offices had great impact to the public to be aware of the anti-bullying as a law. However, I believe with a continuous dissemination of information repeatedly through channels will keep the public informed and

The following statement was issued for this press conference: Temporary Liberty Is Not Enough On March 15, 2018, Bishop Carlo Morales had gained a temporary liberty after Judge Edmundo Pintac of Ozamiz City Court ordered the granting of bail of an amount of Php 200,000 because “the prosecution’s evidence presented at the bail hearing is not strong enough to convict accused Bishop Carlo Morales of the charge against him.” On May 11, 2017, Bishop Carlo Morales, his wife, his driver and National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) Peace Consultant Rommel Salinas were illegally arrested in Ozamiz City and accused of illegal possession of explosive. His wife and his driver were released the following day but Bishop Morales and Rommel Salinas are being detained at BJMP Ozamiz City Jail. Bishop Morales through his lawyers filed a motion to fix bail. There were four hearings held and after ten months the motion was granted on March 14, 2018. Bishop Morales is now temporarily free but Rommel Salinas remains in jail. The freedom of Bishop Morales was appreciated by the leadership of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente but the ordeal of Bishop Morales must be continually condemned. The act of prosecuting a servant of God based on trumphed-up charges is a big injustice made to a person and to the Church that expressed solidarity of the struggle of the people and support to the Peace talks between the Government and the NDFP. The incarceration of Bishop Carlo Morales, NDFP Peace Consultant and all political prisoners is unjust and a violation of human rights. The Duterte regime is liable of the violation of human rights and he must be judged according to law of God. As president, Rodrigo Duterte could not lead the people in this country in righteousness, impartiality and integrity. He has lost his moral authority to administer this nation. While Bishop Morales is temporarily free, we cannot closed our eyes on the continuing incarcerations of arrested social activists, intensified military operations

in the countryside that displace thousands of national minorities, Bangsamoro, peasants, women and fsiherfolk, and the persecution of activists tagged as terrorists. We steadfastly call on our people to stand firm in the struggle for justice and lasting peace. We further call on our faithful to be in solidarity with the struggling masses and invoke the Holy Spirit to guide us in this struggle. We ask the Duterte government, if it still desires to be relevant, to pursue governance that leads to peace and justice. We continue to call for the GRP and NDFP Peace Panel to resume the Peace Talks and forge comprehensive agreements on socio-economic reforms and on political and constitutional reforms towards the end of armed conflict in the land and the reign of just and lasting peace in our nation. We thank the bishops, clergy and people of the IFI, together with the ecumenical and overseas partners, for their continuing, resolute and unwavering support to the campaign to free Bp.
