Probe links of terror groups strengthened

GOVERNMENT agencies are coming together to scale up preparations for the “Big One,” which refers to the predicted 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Metro Manila to be generated by the movement of the West Valley Fault. “Kailangan natin interagency para ‘yung awareness level will be high, and ‘yung coordination of line agencies will be stronger” (We need an inter-agency cooperation so the level of awareness will be high, and the coordination of line agencies will be stronger), said Department of Information and Communications (DICT) Assistant Secretary Alan Silor on Wednesday. “Gusto nating malaman ng public na, if disaster happens, alam ng mga tao kung ano ang gagawin nila, so that’s the focal issues that we’re gonna take up” (We want the public to know that if disaster happens, they know the measures to do, so these are the focal issues that we’re gonna take up), Silor added. The DICT and the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) are the lead agencies in Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-10 (LTFRB-10) regional director Aminoden “Allan” Guro building a strong informa- emphasizes the importance of fare matrix and proper registration of public utility vehicles (PUV) to avoid comtion campaign to raise public plications in the future. CAGAYAN de Oro City-Law enforcers are now looking for clues of possible links, personalities and financiers of the terror groups operating in Mindanao following the arrest of five suspects in a raid in Tubod, Lanao Del Norte. “We are looking into the various communication gadgets seized from the group, which might provide valuable information that could possibly establish the link of various terror groups in Mindanao,” an investigator who joined the raid said. The arrest of the suspects was the result of the military and the police sustained operations in response to intelligence reports that the remnants of the Maute terrorist group who laid siege in Marawi last year are regrouping. “There is also an information that the Maute -IS terrorist group are planning to stage another terror attack elsewhere in the country,” a police official said. Supt. Lemuel Gonda, the spokesperson of the police regional command in Cagayan De Oro City, said that a “high level of alert” remained in Northern Mindanao even after the fall of the terrorists in Marawi City. Arrested in a raid on Sunday in Tubod, Lanao Del Norte, was Juromee Dongon a.k.a Tata, Saynab, Zainab Janjalani, widow of the slain Malaysian JI (Jemaah Islamiyah) leader of Southeast Asia Bin Hir alias Marwan. Marwan was killed in a police operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, which resulted in the killing of 44 members of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP

Jet carrying 73 passengers overshoots Siargao runway By Roel Catoto MindaNews

SURIGAO City--A passenger jet plane carrying 73 people overshot the runway in Siargao Island Tuesday morning apparently because of a bird strike, but nobody was injured in the incident. The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Del Carmen town in Siargao said the Skyjet plane ended up on the grass

a few meters past the end of the runway of Sayak Airport. The 73 people on board were reportedly helped disembark the plane by firefighters and airport workers. The plane reportedly landed at 11:32 a.m. Gilbert Ortojan, manager of Skyjet Airline Siargao, said they are still investigating the cause of the incident but noted that there was a bird strike.

One of the passengers, 25-year-old Gregorio Pornillos Jr., told this writer over the phone that the captain tried to evade an eagle. “At least we are all safe and sound,” he said. Upon disembarking the plane, Pornillos said one of the passengers shouted: “All is well!” The Skyjet website said it operates 80-seater BAE-146

planes, which specialize in short takeoff and landing, manufactured by British Aerospace. Flights to and from Siargao, a popular tourist destination, were reportedly suspended for the rest of the day. Del Carmen Mayor Alfredo Coro Jr. told MindaNews that they are now assisting the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines
