Task Force probes killing of Davao Norte publisher MANILA — The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) on Thursday requested the Philippine National Police and Task Force Usig to immediately conduct an investigation into the killing of journalist Dennis Denora, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Panabo Davao City, Davao del Norte. MARAWI CITY, June 7 (PIA TFBM ICCC) — The peace conversations with the residents of Marawi City continued as the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) held its 4th Town Hall Meeting for the Social Healing and Peacebuilding Program for Marawi. Various stakeholders participated in the peace conversation held in Nanapun Madrasah, Barangay Cabasaran, Marawi City which provided them an avenue to share their concerns and issues regarding the rehabilitation and recovery efforts by the government for Marawi. “Itong mga ganitong pagtipon-tipon ay nagbibigay ng lakas sa amin bilang mga naging bikima ng Marawi siege. Dito po naming nararamdaman na hindi kami pinababayaan ng gobyerno,” said Almaisah Awar, chairperson of Barangay Cabasaran. In 2019 and 2020, the subsidy will increase to P300 monthly. A payout ceremony was
held in Hilarion Ramiro City Gym last May 18, 2018 where 4Ps beneficiaries from Ozamiz receive their UCT grants together with their regular 4Ps grants for January. These beneficiaries are formerly homeless individuals who are under the 4Ps and its special mechanism – the Modified Conditional Cash Transfer (MCCT) scheme. The MCCT is an additional P3,000 monthly subsidy to 4Ps beneficiaries who are homeless. According to DSWD Officer Sanjeeve Tan, cash
grant is a top up benefit for Pantawid beneficiaries who are also receiving their regular cash grant and P600 rice subsidy from the Pantawid Pamilya Program. “The amount of their regular grant is subject to their compliance with the conditionality’s set forth in the 4Ps program,” he further explained. “We know how important this grant is to poor families,” he added. Mysterious brain illness hits Americans LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms…” (Ephesians 6:1112, the Holy Bible). -oooMYSTERIOUS BRAIN ILLNESS HITS AMERICANS: A highly mysterious illness of the brain has been reported as having afflicted officials of the US Consulate in Guangzhou, China, and is now being tagged as the culprit behind the rush repatriation of the affected officials back to the United States. Based on statements coming from a number of
State Department officials, this brain illness is eerily similar or identical to the brain injury that hit some 24 officials of the US Embassy in Havana, Cuba in 2016. Doctors are saying, after initial tests, that this ailment of the brain, in Havana and in Guangzhou, appears rooted on some noise that only the affected officials can hear. In media interviews, Mark Lenzi (from the Consulate office in Guangzhou, China who has been repatriated back to the US with his family for further examination) said that he and his wife and their threeyear old son first heard the sound of “marbles bouncing and hitting the floor then rolling on an incline with a static sound…” Because Lenzi and his family continued to hear this kind
of a sound, they began to suffer sleep deprivation and excruciating headaches. -oooWHY ARE AMERICANS THE ONLY ONES AFFLICTED BY THIS BRAIN ILLNESS? But what Lenzi disclosed is not really new. According to much earlier reports that can be accessed at the Internet, t the same sound and subsequent sleep deprivation and searing headaches were experienced by the other officials of the US Consulate in Guangzhou, China, and, in 2016, by 24 or so officials of the US Embassy in Havana, Cuba. What is odd in all these is that, only officials and employees of the US in Guangzhou and Havana were able to hear the sound of the marbles falling to the floor, and then succumb to unbearable headaches

and severe incapacity to fall asleep. The workers and employees in the same US facilities who were not Americans did not hear anything, and thus did not suffer any brain ailment. As of now, the Trump government is still investigating these incidents, although according to some reports that are starting to come out of those investigations, some doctors are claiming that the victims actually suffered “concussion or minor brain injury.” Now, when we say “concussion or minor brain injury”, that would connote that the head either bumped a hard object, or was shaken severely by another person or by a whiplash. The Night of Fright that revealed the Virtue of Digong (Written on June 19, 2013 in SUN STAR DAVAO about an incident that happened six years ago today. For those who think of PRRD a misogynist and find the public KISS so vulgar it offends their sensibilities, give this piece a minute of your time.) THE heavy downpour last June 5 gave a strong signal that rainy season is around. In fact, it did not come gently. The cloudbursts bathed Davao City with an unusually copious volume of rain that rendered many parts of the city impassable to small vehicles and inaccessible to pedestrians. That rainy Wednesday night would just have been one of those evenings for incoming City Mayor Ro-
drigo “Digong” Duterte. The come-backing mayor is known to be a night owl. He prowls the city streets hoping to catch his prey of criminals among them drug pushers, snatchers, robbers, and other menace of society. He does this nightly to keep city residents safe no matter what the weather is. Never did he realize that in that evening will be part of an unforgettable episode to a distress young mother which he encountered that rainy eve. June 5, 2013 to a mother of four is a night to remember. Annelyn Pongase Paunon earlier went shopping at Gaisano Mall for the school needs of her kids. Because she cannot not leave her
toddler child, she tucked the baby with her and off they went to the mall. The weather was not as sunny then but there was no indication of a heavy downpour. Night caught up with them at the mall not realizing that the light rain that come with dusk took a violent turn. When they decided it was time to go home they looked and waited for a taxi. But everyone else was looking for a cab which had become scarce as flood waters in most of the thoroughfares were no longer “navigable.” Annelyn started to be panicky. She had three small children in tow and a baby which she held close to provide warmth. By 11 p.m. there were no cabs in sight.

The kids were jittery and Annelyn was as nervous. Tugging the children, she decided to make a dash to San Pedro Hospital hoping some patients might have taken a taxi to get to the hospital. They braved the rain and the rising water. Before they can make it across however, a black D’Max stopped right in front of them. Think a minute… Did you ever dream as a kid about flying like a bird? Which would you be more like: a parrot or an eagle? The two are very different kinds of birds. Even though it can fly, a parrot prefers to stay in the same comfortable cage, eat the same dry seeds, and listen to the same words over and over again until it can say them easily. A parrot’s satisfied just to do the same thing everyday. In fact, you almost never see a parrot actually fly. Not eagles. Eagles have an inner drive to explore
and experience everything out there. They have the courage to change and take risks. And they’re not afraid to leave their familiar, comfortable nest of tradition to search for more. An eagle’s passion for life pushes it to soar high and explore new territory, looking for fresh, satisfying food instead of the same boring, dry seeds. So which bird are you most like? If you like being a parrot kind of person, then you’ll probably just stay the same. But you’ll never have or experience anything more in life. And you’ll never know if what
you believe is really true. Remember, “If you agree with someone on everything, then one of you is doing all the thinking.” The smart, successful person is not only open to new ideas, he goes looking for them. So if you want a full, exciting life like an eagle as God created you to live, then what are you waiting for? Do you realize how out of place you are living in that cage of the same thinking and routine every day of your life? Imagine how silly an eagle would look sitting in a cage, picking over a tasteless pile of dried

OGCC wins PCSO’s arbitration case
The Office of the Government Corporate Counsel (OGCC) has won for the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) an arbitrary case filed by the Philippine Gaming Management Corporation (PGMC) in connection with charity agency’s project to modernize its online lottery game such as Lotto, Digit Games, Keno, and Small Town Lottery (STL). In a statement, the Makati City Regional Trial Court (Branch 143) issued an order dated May 25, 2018 confirming the arbitral award of the International Chamber of Commerce-International Court of Arbitration. Since the start of lotto games more than 20 years ago, it was only in 2017 when PCSO opened for the first time the public bidding for the supply and delivery of its Nationwide Online Lottery System (NOLS), wherein 17 bidders properly secured bid documents. by Pacific Online System Corp., and will expire on July 31, 2018. “NOLS has a lower rate compared with the existing system. The system will be implemented nationwide, it will be accessible to the public. Unlike in the existing system, when one buys in Visayas, he cannot validate the winning ticket in Luzon
because it uses a different system. He has to go to PCSO main office where all validating machines are available to validate his ticket. Compared to NOLS, it has only one system and can validate all tickets bought from all over the country. Casas also added that the new ticket system will have added security features. One can easily check if it’s authentic or not to prevent players from counterfeiting or faking winning lotto tickets. Based on OGCC’s records, the arbitration case at the ICC-ICA is one of the largest cases the OGCC won in the past decade. While this is good news for PCSO, Casas said the agency has to start all over again with the preparation of terms of reference (TOR), technical specifications, and the bidding, which has already been started early last year. She said DBP will broaden its branch network this year by opening 10 new branches while expanding its ATM network which has increased by 81 machines, bringing the bank’s total number of ATMs to 710 nationwide as of May this year. “We ended the first quarter with 81 more ATMs, which is 40.5% of our target of 200 new ATMs this year,” Borromeo said. “Out of the number, 69 ATMs were installed in provincial sites, in line with our commitment to bring banking services to the underserved areas,” she said.
Borromeo said DBP will aggressively target one million depositors in the next five years, focusing mainly on small depositors residing in underserved areas of the country as part of its advocacy of financial inclusion. “We want as many Filipinos to have their own deposit accounts, and we would want them to go to DBP, and to trust us as their bank.” she said. Gross income up Borromeo said that DBP’s gross income grew by 9% from January to March this year to P5.77-billion from P5.29-billion recorded in the first quarter of 2017, while net worth grew to P47.8-billion,
registering a 3.49% increase from the P46.19-billion for the same period in 2017. She added that the bank’s net income reached P1.09billion, down by 15.5% from the P1.29-billion registered during the same period last year, owing largely to higher provisioning for credit losses consistent with the bank’s objective of maintaining portfolio quality and in compliance with new regulations. Borromeo said that DBP remains on track to achieve its financial targets this year and that overall average cost of funds has been on a steady decline while operating costs have been kept to a minimum.

She felt relieved she has a ride to take them home and safe and secured it was no less than incoming Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who will be conducting them all the way to Skyline. The pick-up inched its way through the flooded street. But at the corner of Guerrero St. traffic was
snarled and then went on a standstill. The Mayor and an aid alighted from the vehicle to man the traffic. He knew that it will take time to deal with the traffic jam, he directed his driver to take Annelyn and her kids to the doorsteps of their home at the Skyline and then to just come back for him. Safe in the comfort of her home, Annelyn started to email friends about her unforgettable experience and encounter with Mayor Duterte. She can only imagine how the mayor was manning the traffic under the rain. She felt guilty she was not able to thank him enough. Then she remembered, she has a friend whose father is a journalist. She wanted to tell the world how caring the Mayor of Davao City is and how he dispenses his own comfort to extend help to the helpless. This is her story in a capsule as told to my daughter Kristine.

FDC Misamis empowers the education sector through sustainable initiatives True to its mandate of empowering the education sector through sustainable initiatives, FDC Misamis Power Corporation (FDC Misamis) once again participated in the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Brigada Eskwela. This 2018 marked the fifth year of the power firm, the operator of the 405MW circulating fluidized bed coal-fired power plant located at the Phividec Industrial Estate in Villanueva, in joining DepEd’s Brigada Eskwela. Since 2014, FDC Misamis’ Brigada Eskwela assisted a total of 15 public elementary and secondary schools in its host towns. Both Looc Elementary School (LES) and Mohon Elementary School (MOES) in Villanueva and Tagoloan
towns, respectively, were the key beneficiaries of this year’s Brigada Eskwela held on May 30 and 31, 2018. FDC Misamis’ continued to showcase its strong culture of corporate social responsibility as employees flocked to LES and MOES to do re-painting and cleaning jobs. Moreover, as a power company, FDC Misamis’ yearly participation focuses on electrical safety practices to prevent any untoward incident(s) within the learning premises caused by faulty electrical wirings. It sends electrical engineers to check the schools’ electrical wirings and conduct orientation and electrical safety trainings to school administrators, students, parents and other members of the community.
The firm’s electrical supervisor, Engr. Reinan Tulabing, taught them three (3) important points to consider in order to guarantee electrical safety - the source, line and load. Teachers, officials and staff should know 1) the source or the location of the circuit breakers and its basic common features; 2) the line like the wires and cables should be regularly checked to avoid faulty and exposed wirings; and 3) the load or the electrical appliances connecting to the sockets and avoid “octopus” connections as it usually causes electrical overload leading to a conflagration. The loan side service, on the other hand, is foreseen to help barangays, municipalities, cities, and up to provincial government level through development projects,” Villa-Real added. Villa-Real said the shift from corporate to retail services is being implemented because of a specific niche market. For now, we do not want to compete with the bigger banks and would want to look at the markets that are not that heavy in terms of competition,” he added. “The training of our people has really been corporate banking. We are now shifting, not just from veterans to non-veterans, but also from corporate to retail. There’s a big challenge there because of the differences in terms of delivery of services, customer service, handling the problems of the customer, complaints and concerns, and so on and so forth.
