New anti-insurgency plan seen to address poverty in Region 10 WITH the launching of the new anti-insurgency program in Northern Mindanao on Friday, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar expressed confidence that the Duterte administration will be able to address poverty in the region. Andanar, designated Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security (CORDS) in Region 10, said Northern Mindanao is the first region to launch a banner program called Convergence Areas for Peace and Development (CAPDev) which seeks to address the root causes of internal armed conflict and insurgency. “The purpose of this is to accelerate the development of our barangays here in Region 10 -- to end the local communist armed conflict,” Andanar said in a meeting with some members of the Cagayan de Oro Press Club, Inc. (COPC) on Thursday. “The CORDS here in Region 10 is one of the most active CORDS in the ANTI-INSURGENCY PROGRAM. Voter registration resumes in August By FERDINAND PATINIO PNA
FILIPINOS who would like to register as voters may apply beginning August, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Friday. Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said voter registration will be held nationwide from August 1 to September 30, including Saturdays and holidays. “Approximately two million new voters are expected to register during this period,” Jimenez said. He also said that Sangguniang Kabataan (Youth Council) voters
who have already turned 18 years old need not register anew. “Their names will automatically be transferred from the SK List of Voters to the regular List of Voters,” he added. The poll body last enlisted voters on July 2 to Sept. 29 in 2018, when more than 2.5 million people registered.
