THE camp of vice mayor-elect Peter Unabia has denied rumors allegedly broadcast on air by a local radio station that he (Unabia) was disqualified from holding office starting June 30, as the duly elected vice mayor of Gingoog City. In a press statement, Atty Dale Mordeno said the radio broadcast is almost “fake news”, to say the least, adding that there is already an ongoing case for disqualification against Rep Unabia before the Comelec. Mordeno said the ongoing case was initiated before the election by Atty. Miguel Paderanga, a die-hard political ally of Mayor Guingona. He claimed that Cong Unabia “lied” in his Certificate of Candidacy because he did not meet the one-year residency qualification provided in Republic Act No. 7160, which is also known as The Local Government Code. P15.00 Farmer drowned to death By DIVINA M. SUSON Correspondent
ILIGAN City--A farmer, who went missing since 3 p.m. on Monday (June 24), was found dead around 10 a.m. Tuesday (June 25) at the coastline of Barangay Maria Cristina this city. Police Captian Taha Tambog, chief of Iligan City Police Station 2, identified the farmer as Eddie Araneta Demecillo, 37, single, a resident of Barangay Patag, Tagoloan, Lanao del Norte. Demecillo was swimming with friends at the river when he was swept by the strong current of water brought about by rains according to his cousin, Richard Abello. Tagoloan is located in upper part of Iligan City. Barangay Maria Cristina, where the victim’s body was recovered, is about 20 kilometers away from where he was swimming.
‘Tie wire’ kills 25-year-old lady By DIVINA M. SUSON Correspondent
ILIGAN City--A 25-year-old woman died after she was electricuted by a tie wire used as clotheline attached to an electric steel post, around 4 p.m. on Monday (June 24) in Purok 2, Barangay Saray. Police Major Allan Abalde, commander of Iligan City Police Station 5, identified the victim as Merfrance Ybanes Biares, 25, single, an employee of a restaurant and resident of Purok 5, Barangay Saray. Police report said the victim, passing through the clotheline, was warned by the children playing nearby not to touch the because it has a lose current but ignored the warning. The victim’s mother said their neighbors called the power distribution utility a day before the incident to fix it but the company did not arrive. The victim was brought to a nearest hospital but was declard dead on arrival by attending doctors.
