DENR RESCUES AND TURNS OVER ANOTHER PAWIKAN TO ABOITIZ CLEANERGY PARK. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) rescued and turned over a pawikan to the Aboitiz Cleanergy Park in Sitio Punta Dumalag, Matina Aplaya, Davao City through Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. last June 11, 2019. The pawikan was alleged to originate from Surigao City and was smuggled when it was a hatchling to Panabo City, Davao del Norte, where it has been kept as a pet for 16 years. To help save pawikans, the government has created the Republic Act No. 9147 or Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act which prohibits collecting, hunting or possessing wildlife, their by-products and derivatives. Davao Light will continue to provide support and double its efforts to help conserve pawikans. photo supplied
