Dads push economic aid to city residents under MECQ C

AGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Two opposition Cagayan de Oro City councilors pushed for the provision of economic aid to city residents hard hit by the imposition lf the Modified Enhance Community Quarantine (MECQ) here.

Opposition City Councilors Lourdan Suan and Jocelyn Rodriguez made the appeal for economic support for city residents during the city council’s regular session on Monday. Both Suan and Rodriguez contended that the imposition of the MECQ in the city has displaced thousands of workers following the shutdown of Elizabeth E. De Las Llagas, deputy district collector for operations of Bureau of Customs in Northern Mindanao, many establishments. together with other BOC-10 personnel and officials, inspect the China-made cigarettes which were illegally imported, before being destroyed in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon on June 15, 2021.

Most of the affected establishment were in the service sector, especially the massage clinics, hotels and restaurants and other establishments engaged in non-essential businesses. CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Bureau of Customs in Northern Mindanao has destroyed P75 million estimated worth of imported cigarettes that it has intercepted months on Tuesday (June 15).

Oliver Valiente, chief of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service in Northern Mindanao said the condemned cigarettes was intercepted at the Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) in Tago-

loan, Misamis Oriental. He noted that the boxes are printed with the “made in the Philippines” but are actually from China. “They want to make it appear that these cigarettes are local,” Valiente said, referring to the P75 million worth of cigarettes that

were destroyed at a facility in Barangay Mantibugao, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, on Tuesday, June 15. He said the shipment arrived at the MCT January this year and was declared by the consignee Sixty Nine Enterprises as kitchenware. See CIGARETTES, page 11
