LTFRB okays opening of new taxi franchise in Oro C

AGAYAN de Oro City--The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved the opening of additional taxi franchise for several regions, including this city in Region 10, issuing guidelines that will regulate the application and operation of the new units.

LTFRB-10 Regional Director Aminoden Guro said that for Cagayan de Oro, the approved total number of units is 250, but the application for their franchise will be done through a corporation or cooperative and not individually.

HOLCIM Philippines insisted on Friday that processed engineered fuel is a legal commodity listed under the tariff book of the Bureau of Customs - and all other Customs agencies throughout the world.

This is contrary to the remarks made by Mindanao Conrainer Terminal Customs collector John Simon who claimed that the indicated declaration of a Holcims shipment that was intercepted last month is not found in the BOC

tariff code book.

LIGAN City--Fifty nine couples were solemnized on Friday (June 14) by Iligan City Mayor Celso Regencia in a civil mass wedding ceremony, initiated by the local government unit, through the Civil Registrar’s office, inside a big mall here as part of the city’s 69th charter day celebration on June 16.

Mayor Regencia said the annual mass wedding the LGU Iligan is facilitating aims to legalize the marriage of couples, all residents in the city, who are living together for five years and up.

Jocelyn is a housewife while Leonil is a carpenter who got a job when neighbors call him to fix something or when fellow carpenters need more manpower.

Their relatives help them rent Jocelyn’s wedding gown and prepare some foods to eat when they get home from the ceremony.

The “wedding cake “they partake is a gift from the LGU’s sponsor.

Jocelyn said, if it were not of the LGU’s mass wedding, they could not be legally married.

A lot of people say “The only thing constant in life is CHANGE.” And thus means change is inevitable and is always part of life. But why do people change?

According to the great philosopher named Plato, “Human behaviour flows from three main sources: desire, emotion, and knowledge.”

These three main sources may have been used as our reasons for that thing we call, change.

We change our behaviours, our perspective and our way of life because we desire to attain something that is unattainable if we don’t change.

For example, we will not be recognized by everybody if we will not change our withdrawn behaviour with being sociable or others may not like our awful behaviour that’s why we decided to change it for us to be loved by others.

Emotions. We change for the varied emotions that we have, like in love. When we fall in love, everything changes: from the way we look at the used-to-be boring day, we now see as a very bright and exciting day. We got inspired in going to school, we smile for no apparent reason, we

daydream often...everything and everyday brings happiness into our lives. Everything changes.

Yet change does not only come when we are happy. We also experience change when we feel pain...much pain! According to Henry Cloud, “We change our behaviour when the pain of staying the same becomes greater than the pain of changing.” If we feel neglected, less prioritized, belittled or even mistreated not only in our relationships but also with our workmates, classmates or even family members, we change.

Some become rebellious, some became sober, some a loner, some call them “bitter” and some even lose the reason and the courage to live life.

Knowledge. When something is added to our stock of knowledge, we change.

From being naive, we know become a person of intellect.

Perhaps the reason why most of us continuously study: to change and improve ourselves for the benefit of the people we surround with and for the betterment of ourselves.

These are just some of the many reasons why people change; some for the better while some for the worse.

Nevertheless, it is our choices in life that drives us to change.

Whatever change you choose to have for yourself, you always keep in mind to be very careful with the choices you choose, for you may become the person you don’t dream of becoming and that regrets would be too late for another change! ;)

ILIGAN UPDATES

Senator Bong Go visited 196 families who were affected by fire at the Ubaldo Laya, Iligan City On June 4, Senator Bong Go together with DSWD Undersecretary Aimee S. Torrefranca-Neri, paid a visit at the Ubaldo Laya Gymnasium which now serves as their evacuation center for the victims of the most recent fire incident in Iligan City that engulfed 103 houses and left 196 families homeless.

Apart from providing help to fire survivors, Senator Go and the local city officials headed by Vice Mayor Vera Cruz joined the children in a “Boodle Fight” for lunch. After the

lunch, he listened to the people’s concerns and in a way, eased the pain of the families affected by the fire. A press conference was then made and he expressed his willingness to help as he assisted in coordinating with various agencies such as NHA, DSWD, PCSO, and even private entities who shares the same advocacy to extend help.

One of the Senator’s top priorities is to foster fire safety awareness and prevention measures particularly in informal and fire prevention. Go through more intense fire settlements where fire inaims to review fire safety prevention awareness drive, cidents take place more often.

Among others, Senator Go is pushing for a law that would enable the installation of Malasakit Center here in Iligan since it has already been established in Cagayan de Oro City, in other provinces and strategic urban centers in the country and allow as well for the continuation of the program even after the term of President Duterte.

According to the Senator, the Malasakit Center is a

continuing program of the administration seeking to make it easier and faster for indigent patients to avail of medical and financial assistance from the government by bringing together in one room DSWD, PCSO, DOH, and Philhealth, and all other concerned agencies to lessen the burden of the indigent patients.

He assured the Filipino people and further said, “Dili ako maglimite sa akong kaugalingon sa may kalabutan nga buhat sa lehislatibo, apan hinoon, akong ipadayon ang akong

STREET floods in Cagayan de Oro have become a way of life so to speak, events we could no longer avoid, halt, or put a stop.

The frequent occurrences of floods elsewhere in the city are by-products of our insatiable greed --- that of wanton abuse and the subsequent neglect of our environment.

We have now this thing called climate change staying for good in our midst.

Studies show that there are several causes of climate change, but all have something in common –- people.

On one hand, global warming is a side effect of many things that we, as a people do – like driving cars, heating homes, running factories, and transforming forests into towns. Our landfills and farm animals

are to blame for recent climate change, too.

Burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas releases greenhouses gases such as carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

These gases trap heat in the atmosphere that was on its way out to space, causing Earth’s greenhouse effect to grow more intense, warming the climate.

Changes in the way land is used also have an impact on climate.

For example, when trees and other plants are cut down to make way for new buildings or parking lots, climate warms because less carbon dioxide is taken out of the atmosphere without the plants.

Plus, the asphalt and buildings tend to hold onto more heat than forests and

fields, so when warmed by the Sun, they stay warm for some time.

Agriculture also adds greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Farm animals release methane, a particularly strong greenhouse gas, as they digest food.

Factory-made fertilizers release nitrous oxide, another strong greenhouse gas into the atmosphere There will be more global warming coming as summarized by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) -- a group of hundreds of experts from more than 100 countries organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

the next two decades. If we continue to emit as many, or more, greenhouse gases, this will cause far more warming during the 21st Century than we saw in the 20th Century.

During this time, the Earth’s average temperature will rise between 1.8° and 4.0° Celsius (3.2° and 7.2° F) depending largely on how humans change the ways they live on the planet.

The loud music played during a Zumba class held inside the Provincial Capitol can induce pregnant women to give birth simultaneously at the nearby Sabal Hospital on Velez Street, Cagayan de Oro City.

In fact the Zumba class had become quite disruptive to the entire Ob-Gyne ward at the hospital’s third floor located on its left side across the Capitol.

I know because I spent nights there witnessing the birth of my granddaughter Veronica Palmes Mejorada.

Due to the loud Zumba music we had my daughter Tejane transfer to a private room where she and Veronica can rest peacefully.

I feel bad for the pregnant mothers confined in that ward who had to endure that hellish Zumba music.

I am sur pris ed nobody from the hospital complained about this or brought this to the attention of the hospital’s management so the Capitol can do something about it.

This may be trivial for some but not for the pregnant women who had to endure labor pains for 20 hours. I hope the Sabal Hospital management do something about this for expecting mothers and their children.

Speaking of child birth I would like to commend Dr. Roque Patriana for

advocating breastfeeding.

Everyday when he checks on my daughter he would give enough useful information to last her for a lifetime.

He said even if the mother can produce no breastmilk, her baby should be allowed to suck on her breasts since it would eventually induce her to produce milk.

It was my first time to know that one can tell if the baby has enough milk already by the number of times the baby urinates which should be five times.

The Milk Code of the Philippines is a piece of Philippine legislation that speaks volumes about the

country’s health care system and it is vital for both mother and child in order to protect the child’s health during his or her development.

I have not done any fact checks but I think it was the late senator Juan Flavier who authored the law which was then an issue among the giant pharmaceutical companies producing milk.

As former Managing Editor of several law magazines, published in Berlin, Amsterdam, and New York, my job has been also editing a lot of articles. Every time, I met an exclamation mark, I felt an alarming signal.

Yes, even until today, I’m well-known for my cheerfulness. Even on my worst days, I put on a happy face to communicate with people outside my immediate friends and colleagues.

In my emails, this behavior manifests itself as exclamation marks. And being honest, I experience the same feelings as Emily Torres.

Honestly, allow me to quote Emily: preoccupied with appearing nice, I used

to catch myself using exclamations at the end of every other sentence. And I’m not ashamed to admit it because, chances are, you’ve sent those emails too.

And now, let’s stick together: Take a look at the last few messages you sent.

If you’re like me/us, you’ll see exclamations and other niceties peppered throughout: “Looking forward to seeing the end result!” and “I’m excited to hear from you!” and “I’m happy to help out!”

But are you?

I like the example of Emily Torres at this point: former US presidential candidate Jeb Bush’s use of an excitable exclamation mark in his logo during his 2016 campagin drew some mocking from the media.

Whether you send off a few – or a few dozen –

emails a day, you’re making these micro-decisions about how to accommodate your recipient when you address, punctuate, and clarify your ideas in real time. And this is where decades of conditioning creep in, and that anxiety-driven need to be liked emerges.

Especially for women, who use exclamation marks more often than men do. In a 2006 study, researchers analysed 200 exclamations used in professional discussion groups, and found that females used 73% of the exclamation marks. The study concluded that women use these marks more often than men do in order to convey friendliness in their professional interactions.

How is your opinion?

The scourge of the exclamation mark is this: I use it excessively because of the

Lacson to PRRD: ‘a lifetime thank you’ for MUP pension increase MANILA, Philippines – Senator Panfilo Lacson extended a ‘lifetime’ gratitude to President Rodrigo Duterte for approving the pension increase of some 220,000 retired military and uniformed personnel (MUP) in the government.

“On behalf of the 220,000 MUP retirees, let me say a lifetime ‘THANK YOU’ to PRRD for Joint Resolution No 1,” Lacson said on his tweet on Thursday (June 13).

“No other President has shown such concern for those who served and offered their lives for country and people.

All we have to do is continue breathing for as long as we can,” the senator added.

Congress Joint Resolution No. 1 signed by the President authorizes an increase in the base pay of MUPs. On Tuesday (June 11), the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) already released the pension requirements of retired MUPs under the Armed Forces of the Philippines-General Headquarters (AFP-GHQ), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP),

and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

Specifically, the DBM released P29.9 billion to the AFP-GHQ; P21.7 billion to the PNP; P1.9 billion to the BFP; and around P731 million to the BJMP. “Accordingly, the recently released amounts already include

the adjustment of the pension of the retired MUPs as indexed to the base pay scale of MUP in the active service covering the period June to December 2019 based on the available funds as certified by the Bureau of the Treasury,” the DBM said.

DAVAO CITY -- The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) said it continues to gain positive results in its simultaneous anti-criminality and terrorism operations under Oplan Kalinaw.

This, as 25 individuals wanted by law were arrested by authorities during an Oplan Kalinaw operation conducted in different areas of the city on Thursday.

Col. Alexander Tagum, DCPO chief, said the simultaneous operations around the city resulted in identity or background checking and profiling of 990 residents.

Of the figure, 25 persons were arrested by virtue of warrants of arrest for various serious criminal cases, including violence against women and children, gambling, illegal drugs, illegal cutting of trees, malicious mischief, violation

During the Oplan Kalinaw operations, Tagum said a total of 540 residents availed of the free medical check-up, supplemental food feeding, and 318 persons received free medicines and vitamins.

Oplan Kalinaw is a “fourin-one package” designed to initiate identity or background checks and profiling of transient residents; manhunt operations against wanted persons; community outreach, including free medical check-up and distribution of medicines and vitamins; and crime prevention education.

DAVAO CITY – Mindanaoans need not travel to Manila anymore to have their documents authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

In an advisory on Friday, the DFA Davao Consular Office said that it will start receiving documents, such as PSA Birth Certificates, PSA Marriage Contracts, NBI Clearances, PRC licenses and CHED-certified academic for “red ribbon” on Monday, June 17, 2019.

Overseas employers have been requiring their Filipino workers to secure authentication of their documents from DFA.

Ebrahim Zailon, the DFA-Davao head, said that previously, Mindanaoans seeking overseas jobs had to travel to Manila to have their documents authenticated at the DFA main office.

“Fellow Mindanawon, no need for you to go to Manila (anymore) for red-ribbon purpose,” he said.

Zailon said those seeking authentication of their documents can simply go to DFA-Davao at the 3rd Floor of SM City Davao on Quimpo Blvd., Ecoland, Matina.

Earlier, Simon said he ordered the shipment held upon reading that the cargo was originally declared as “processed engineered fuel” by the broker and consignee.

“Processed engineered fuel is not a commodity that is listed in any tariff book in the world, particularly here in the Philippines. So it rang an alarm signal on my head and I ordered the shipment held,” Simon said.

Vallat said most cement plants around the world now use 50 percent processed engineered fuel to fire up their facilities in lieu of coal, thereby reducing carbon footprint.

In 2018, the Lugait plant of Holcim Philippines used a total of 142 tons of imported Australian waste to burn and mold raw limestone into consumer quality cement. That totaled only 0.3 percent of their fuel needs.

The rest is fed by coal and a negligible amount of locallyproduced biomass and municipal wastes from their host municipality of Lugait.

Holcim Philippines maintains a total of five plants nationwide. Only its Davao and Lugait plants use processed engineered fuel momentarily.

There was no problem with Customs regarding the Davao-bound shipment, according to Holcim Philippines external relations officer Donjie Carreon.

Vallat said that Holcim Philippines has slated to use 1,499 tons of processed engineered fuel for their Lugait operations this year.

But with their cargo impounded at the Mindanao Container Terminal, Holcim Philippines will use coal in the meantime.

Media Wise awarded 2nd IABC Gold Quill Award of Merit T

Media Wise Communications, Inc. was awarded its second Gold Quill Award of Merit by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) for the coffee table book On the March: The Jesuits in the Philippines Since the Restoration at the Excellence Gala held 11 June 2019 during the 2019 IABC World Conference in Vancouver, Canada.

On the March chronicles the journey of the Jesuits as they bring the Catholic faith to the most remote corners of the Philippines. The book focuses on their ministry in education through the years, and the many aspects of their apostolate in the country.

Edited by journalist John Nery, it also includes essays by Cora Llamas (associate editor), journalist Mike Baños, Ticia Morente, Fr. Bert Boholst SJ, and Margie Logarta.

Nissan Electrifies UEFA Champions League Final in Madrid

ISSAN is powering the UEFA Champions League Final by providing 363 Nissan LEAF vehicles and e-NV200 vans to transport officials and visitors to Madrid, creating a mega-fleet that will cover more than 220,000 all-electric kilometers.

Now in its fifth season as Official Automotive Sponsor of the world’s largest annual sporting event, Nissan aims to improve air quality and reduce the environmental

impact on the host city during this high-traffic weekend, with the largest zero-emissions fleet in the history of the competition.

This year the Nissan fleet also includes a Nissan LEAF NISMO RC 2.0 race car, which will be used by Brazilian football legend Roberto Carlos as he delivers the UEFA Champions League Trophy from the UEFA Champions Festival in Puerta del Sol to the EstadioMetropolitano.

and an aggressive body shape – as well as a custom-designed aerodynamic trophy display case for this event – the LEAF NISMO RC 2.0 demonstrates the latest in the performance side of Nissan Intelligent Mobility technology.

It has double the maximum power and torque output of its predecessor, containing advanced electric battery technology and drivetrain components sourced from the Nissan LEAF, the world’s bestselling electric car.

The final comes as Nissan prepares to begin deliveries of the new LEAF e+ to European customers, introducing a new 62kWh battery with a range of 385km, new personalisation options and equipped with Nissan’s e-Pedal and ProPILOT technologies.

The city of Madrid has banned old diesel and petrol cars from some parts of the city center as part of a move to reduce congestion and pollution.

A new low-emissions zone covers 472 hectares (1,166 acres) and means that all petrol vehicles registered before 2000 and diesel ones registered before 2006 are banned from the area unless they are used by residents of the area or meet other exemptions.

emissions are permitted in downtown Madrid and the city has installed more than 110 car chargers to encourage further electrification.

To bolster that infrastructure over the course of the UEFA Champions League Final weekend, Nissan has added an additional 36 chargers around the city which will all be deployed in Spain after the event.

The Nissan LEAF is made at Nissan’s award-winning plant in Sunderland, UK, for export to markets across Europe, including Spain.

The LEAF remains the world’s best-selling electric vehicle, with global sales of more than 410,000 and sales in Europe leading the competition with 41,589 units in 2018.
