BUTUAN CITY – Caraga Region has recorded an 83.5 percent rate in the vaccination of senior citizens in the area.

In a report Tuesday, the Department of Health– Caraga (DOH-13) said 340,752 coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines alone have been administered to senior citizens as of Sunday (June 12).

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Newly elected Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando Uy on Tuesday pledged to strengthen the local police in the fight against illegal drugs and criminality here.

In a talked with the Mindanao Daily News, Uy said he will provide all the 10 existing police stations with brand new police cars to enable the police to immediately respond to calls for police assistance.

At present, most of the police stations in the city has no decent police patrol cars depriving the law enforcers

of the required mobility that demands quick response.

Uy said that he will utilize the city’s approved intelligence funds in the fight against illegal drugs and all forms of criminality to be able to create a safer and peaceful community.

The City Council has approved a P 159 million intelligence fund for the incumbent and outgoing city Mayor Oscar Moreno for the year 2022.

However, a police officer who talked on condition he not be identified, said that the incumbent city administration failed to extend sufficient support to the local police.

A teacher who discharges her duties sincerely is a multitasker which might not be in any other profession. Classroom management – Involves diversified tasks of effective presentation of subject, involvement of students in discussion, to hold the attention of every child in the classroom, productive learning by children, discipline in the class, etc. A teacher must know the names of all the children in a class to develop a good rapport with them. A teacher with good classroom management skills involving dealing with varied children can manage the family, friends and relatives with ease.

It has been said that “You cannot give, what you do not have”. With this, teachers should continue to learn ,pursue their masters degree, at-

tend seminars, trainings, and workshops to improve their ability in teaching. Teachers go through training before they enter into actual the classroom teaching but each day and every class provides some valuable experience to teachers to teach better and do their duty to the best of their ability. Many teachers today, however, are encouraged to adapt and adopt new practices that acknowledge both the art and science of learning. They understand that the essence of education is a close relationship between a knowledgeable, caring adult and a secure, motivated child.

They grasp that their most important role is to get to know each student as an individual in order to comprehend his or her unique needs, learning style, social and cultural background,

interests, and abilities.

The interaction between teacher and parents helps both to know the needs of the child at home as well as in school.

The feed back given by teachers with regard to academic performance or disciplinary issues enables the parents to handle situations carefully at home. At the same time the feed back of parents about children helps the teacher to handle the child carefully We know teachers have one of the most important jobs in the world. They fill in the shoes of too many different professions like a parent, doctor, dietician, carpenter, disciplinarian, judge, administrator, academic experts, mentor, and more, and probably all time. It’s no secret that our teachers gets so many things done that it’s no wonder that they’ve become experts in multitasking.

Classroom management can be the most important thing a teacher can do for his or her classroom. Classroom management is ensuring that the classroom run smoothly. When a classroom is managed, it creates an environment where the students are focus and there is a positive environment which creates growth in the classroom.

Classroom management should start the first day the students enter your classroom. When the classroom is mange it ensures that the students and you are on the same page. Once a teacher loses control of their classroom it is difficult to regain control. To have a successful classroom that is well manage there should be structure, student involvement; the teacher should remain calm and try different teaching practice.

Every classroom should have structure. Structure is the

foundation of every classroom and students respond well to structure. Not only does it provide students with a safe environment, but it helps increase their ability to succeed in the classroom. The goal for structure in a classroom is to increase productivity and learning. You can start by setting expectations in the classroom.

You can do this by having a clear understanding of the class rules on the first day the students enter your class. The students should know what is allowed and what is not allowed. You can do this by establishing a class routine.

The classroom should be easy to walk through and there shouldn’t be anything dangerous on the ground. The classroom should also feel warm and welcoming. In order to make it feel welcoming teachers can have motivational posters and word walls that the students will be able to relate to. Getting to

know your students and building a friendly relationship with them will also create a positive classroom environment. Seating arrangement is also very important as it influences classroom engagement when set up in small groups rather than typical rows. I believe that through a positive classroom environment, students will be more motivated to learn and more likely to avoid classroom problems. Learning will take place.

Teachers are responsible for maintaining a positive learning environment in the classroom.

Managing a classroom is not an easy task. A classroom that is out of control yields lower achievement for students and high burnout rates for teachers.

Teachers must implement structure, develop positive student interaction and take immediate action when problems arise.

Maintaining control from the beginning provides a foundation for effective classroom management.

Stop the Continuing Onslaught on IP’s Resources or Else!

THE massive exploitation of the resources which once upon a time been the domain of the IPs has been happening not only in the Philippines but worldwide.

Is the enrichment of corporations and oligarchs means the dispossession of the poor IPs? This truism has been shown in three (3) episodes in MAGANDANG GABI PILILPINAS by no less than Mr. Ceazar Soriano entitled AGAW LUPA, AGAW TUBIG, AGAW BUHAY. These Indigenous Peoples are now serving notice to one and all that enough is enough! In a strongly worded Position Paper entitled, “Kasaysayan na Magpapatunay sa Lupang Ipinamana ng mga Ninuno (Ancestral Domain), the cooperatives of the Indigenous People narrated their historical right on their ancestral domain which has all these years been the subject of massive exploitation of the rich and the powerful. But this time, they have awakened as they are advancing their firm resolve to collectively fight to protect Abaga Ta Bayug (Mindanamora Falls) in Talakag, Bukidnon which they believe is a very sacred

creation of Magbabaya (the Creator). Well, what else is new?

The massive exploitation of the resources which once upon a time been the domain of the IPs has been happening worldwide. That process of deprivation is called the “enclosure of the commons.” The word “enclosure” describes the physical exclusion of the IPs from their commons (land) though being a common property of the IPs to be owned and controlled by the rich and the powerful.

Lands which were formerly the ancestral domain of the IPs are now owned and controlled by the rich and the powerful. This is concretely showcased in the hundreds of thousands of hectares of the choicest of lands in rich but poverty-stricken island of Mindanao now transformed into big plantations which are planted with high value crops to supply the consumerist lifestyle of the people in the advanced countries. This is a paradox in an agriculturally-rich country that cannot even produce enough basic staples such as rich and milk for its people.

This truism is well narrated in the IP’s Position Paper. Indeed, the IPs have been living sustainably in their commons that include the ecosystems for thousands of years in the spirit of service and sharing. But where are they now? What happened to their lands, the natural seeds, the natural farming technologies that they have practiced in harmony with the laws of nature? Indeed, the economics of enclosure worked for the landlords and plantation owners but against the IPs. The massive raking of a few provided the necessary justification for the privateers to expand the market economy despite the cost to nature’s economy and the sustenance economy being advanced by the IPs. All told, the enclosure of the commons which has taken place all these years against the IPs has put a few in control of the resources and as a consequence produce the following scenario: The exclusion of the IPs from access to resources See RESOURCES, page 8

For years now, SEs have played a crucial role in creating more purpose-driven enterprises that benefit vulnerable and underserved communities.

Recently, BPI Foundation, the social development arm of BPI, officially launched the 8th iteration of its flagship program, BPI Sinag, which champions the social enterprise sector in the country.

With this year’s theme, BPI Sinag Evolution, the program aims to elevate its impact and achieve inclusive and sustainable growth by implementing for the first

time, a multi-stakeholder approach, highlighting three vital pillars: the social entrepreneurs, the educators, and the intervenors or subsectors. BPI Foundation has committed Php 3 million worth of cash grants for these pillars this year.

BPI Sinag Evolution is also aligned with the National Social Enterprise Development Roadmap, one of the accomplishments of Sinag Spark last year, translating the roadmap strategies into viable programs.

According to BPI Foundation Executive Director Owen Cammayo, evolution best represents the enhancements in its Sinag program over time to better address the needs of the broader SE ecosystem. He said, “Doing well by doing good as an economic and social imperative is more relevant now more than ever. This is the perfect time to increase our collective efforts to become more inclusive, responsible, and sustainable when doing business. This is the essence why we strongly support social enterprises.”

The program’s business challenge recently opened its doors to local social enterprises operating for at least six months. Of the 60 SEs who will qualify for bootcamps and mentoring

sessions, the Top 10 SEs will receive as much as Php 300,000 cash grant. The application period will run until June 30, 2022.

Aside from the cash grants, Sinag SEs will also undergo MBA-like training, which will include sessions on business strategy and planning, marketing, operations, finance, organization & HR development, and social innovation, among others. Sinag SEs will also benefit from market access through the Sinag Sari-Sari Store in Ayala malls nationwide through its partnership with Alagang Ayala Land.

With the multi-stakeholder approach, the “Sinag Evolution” will also give opportunities to the members of the academe and the support intervenors of SEs through a customized management program and competition.

BARMM builds infra-projects in Maguindanao IPs ancestral land

COTABATO CITY – Construction is underway for the PHP49.7 million worth of development projects in an Indigenous Peoples (IPS) domain in Maguindanao.

Minister Melanio Ulama of the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples Affairs Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MIPA-BARMM), said the projects intend to “erase the misconception that IPs are second class” constituents in the region.

“This is to bring the government closer to the people and that all should have equal access to government services as what BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim repeatedly emphasized,” Ulama said in a statement Tuesday.

He said the Special Development Fund (SDF) projects will include a single-stor y tribal hall (PHP7.2-M), public market (PHP9-M), warehouse and solar dryer (PHP1.5-M), and 50 units of core shelter with solar-powered light and water system level II (PHP32-M).

The projects will rise in Barangay Kabinge of Datu Saudi Ampatuan town, a known ancestral land of Teduray IPs in the province.”

The suddenness, uncertainty, and volatility of COVID-19 left the education system in a rush of addressing the changing learning landscape. The disruption of COVID-19 in the educational system is of great magnitude that even DepEd have to cope with at the soonest possible time.

DepEd had started understanding and identifying mediumterm and long-term implications of this phenomenon on teaching, learning, student experience, infrastructure, operation, and staff. Scenario analysis and understanding of the context of each school are necessary to the current challenges they are confronted with. DepEd have to be resilient in times of crisis. Resiliency in the educational system is the ability to overcome challenges of all kinds–trauma, tragedy, crisis, and bounce back stronger, and wiser. The educational system had prepared plans to move forward and address the new normal after the crisis.

The teaching and learning process assume a different shape in times of crisis. One emerging reality is the migration to online learning modalities to mitigate the risk of face-toface interaction. However, this sudden shift has resulted in problems especially for learners without access to technology.

The gap between those who have connectivity and those without widened. The continuing academic engagement has been a challenge for teachers and students due to access and internet connectivity. Basic Education Development Plan 2030

THE Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday launched its Basic Education Development Plan (BEDP) 2030 to improve the delivery and quality of basic education and experience of students.

In her speech, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said the department had ventured into developing its first-ever long-term plan for basic education to strategically address the immediate impact of COVID-19 pandemic on learning and confront the challenge of quality education.

She said the BEDP 2030 was designed to address “the root cause of problems on quality, close the access gaps, sustain and enhance relevant programs, and introduce innovations in fostering resiliency and embedding the rights of children and the

youth in education.”

“The co-creation of learning spaces will also help to cope with the fast-changing global education imperatives. We want our learners to be globally competitive, to be resilient and productive nation-loving citizens,” Briones said.

“We also want them to acquire the competencies defined in the plan for them to be able to achieve and apply in real-life situations,” she added.

The long-term plan will be implemented in two major phases.

For the Phase 1 (2022 to 2025), it will be a response to immediate impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on learning and participation and address issues on quality of basic education.

TRAIN Law affecting the financial status of every teacher

THE next government must postpone scheduled personal income tax cuts, impose new taxes and remove certain tax exemptions if it is to keep the economy growing and manage the record debt it will inherit from the Duterte administration.

A second tranche of personal income tax cuts set to take effect next year must be moved to 2026, adding that this will lead to P97.7 billion in annual savings. The tax cuts, primarily aimed at working Filipinos, are mandated under the TRAIN Law. To clarify, we will still reduce personal income taxes in 2026 when fiscal conditions are hopefully more permissive to the reduction. The

proposal is part of a fiscal consolidation and resource mobilization plan that the Philippine government said will be critical to helping it continue its productive spending, grow out of its pandemic-induced debt and provide substantial buffers to respond to lingering and future economic shocks. The plan also aims to reverse in a span of ten years the additional P3.2 trillion debt incurred by the Philippine government due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

The deferment of the income tax cuts forms part of Package 1 which also calls for the expansion of the VAT base and a possible VAT rate reduction by limiting the zero rating to direct exporters.

A child –centered institution has the best interest of the child in mind in all its learning activities. It has a curriculum that addresses the child’s learning needs as well as those of the community and society.

It employs teaching methods that are suited to the child’s age, abilities and ways of learning, encourages children to think and decide for themselves, ask questions and express their opinions that promotes quality learning.

The school makes sure that children master the basic skills of writing, reading, speaking and listening, mathematics and the necessary skills that they can use through life and encourages children to learn by doing and

by doing things with others.

It made sure that that teachers are qualified to teach and continue to become better teachers and make sure that teachers and other staff are physically fit, adequately paid and highly motivated.

Teachers encourages children to express their feelings through- music, drawing, drama, and other forms.

A child-friendly school is healthy for children. It is said to be healthy for children when it promotes children’s health, guarantees that school buildings, grounds and facilities are safe, clean, healthy and with adequate water and sanitary facilities. The school must have written policies and regular practices that promotes good health.

A child-friendly school becomes functional and effective when it integrates health education and life skill development in its curriculum and it hosts regular health services for children, such as immunization, dental program, feeding program and some non-governmental, clubs and civic led activities that would redound to benefit the school children.

Continuing teacher training

THE incoming Marcos administration should effectively address the crisis hounding the education sector by making sure teachers have access to quality education and training.

The Department of Education (DepEd) should prioritize immediate and effective implementation of the Excellence in Teacher Education Act or Republic Act No. 11713 which seeks to revamp the Teacher Education Council.

This will improve the quality of teacher education and training from pre-service to in-service.

If teachers have a better foundation, we can expect that they can give quality teaching to their students.

Under the law, the DepEd Secretary will be the Chairperson of the TEC, with the

Commission on Higher Education (CHED) chairperson as the Vice-Chairperson.

The Excellence in Teacher Education law aligns with the BEDP 2030.

The law mandates the TEC to set basic requirements for teacher education programs.

This is to ensure a strong and transparent link between the outcomes of teacher education programs and the professional standards for teachers and school leaders, research and international best practices.

The law also seeks to strengthen coordination between the DepEd, the CHED, and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

We gave a lot of powers to DepEd to make sure that teacher education is seamless from pre-service all the way to in-service.

COVID19 has recalibrated teachers’ time by dividing it between teaching, engaging with distant learners and preparing bunch of reports.

It totally changes their perspective and commitment to remaining in the classroom.

This academic year 2020-2021 was unlike any other year since schools had underwent temporary closures but then re-opened in the light of the Learning Delivery Modalities implementation and now another modality came to life, the Bichronous learning. This coming opening of classes will surely be another adjustment for the teachers. With the implementation of the combination of face-to-face, hybrid and remote learning models, teachers need to be more resilient and adapt to unexpected changes like teaching in unprecedented ways using blended learning while being challenged to establish strong connections with learners, families and colleagues.Aside from these emerging concerns, health issues is also at stake.

Changes in educational system cause teachers to be shaken which results to high level of stress and burnout, however, the willingness of the teachers to adapt to whatever this

pandemic has brought to the job, makes them still moving forward and keep the torch burning.

In order to cope with the challenges this pandemic has given to the teachers, there are 3 common coping mechanisms they need to engage with. First the teachers need social support from families,colleagues and friends. Secondly, physical activities like regular exercise or zumba is highly recommended and lastly, teachers need to engage in leisure activities like travelling or going out with friends or simply going out from his comfort shell. Of course proper diet is also needed.Setting their own vision to accomplish these things makes a teacher more resilient and versatile.

It would give him the chance to develop a new perspective on what strategy to apply and to lessen the burdens this changes have brought to the system. With this, teachers are ready to adapt another diversion or changes in the workplace. Teachers’ optimism and willingness to carry-out these suggested activities will lead them to a more-improved and resilient teachers in the coming expansion phase of limited face-to-face classes.

Citing their observations, experts noted that food delivery apps have been very in demand since the start of the pandemic. The service, however, is a collaboration between the app and the restaurant.

The app does not have a restaurant. Similarly, a restaurant does not have an app. If there’s one thing we learned from the pandemic, that is the need for collaboration.

This shows that different businesses or industries can

work together for a shared success, and this will not only be beneficial for them but also for the customers.

The pandemic has made the people see what is possible and see potentials.

Chief executive officers, had several realizations because of what the pandemic has caused to the businesses.

It is scary to move forward, but it is more scary to not move forward.

PREGNANCY puts women at higher risk of severe medical complications or death from COVID-19.

Multiple studies have already shown that COVID-19 is more dangerous to pregnant women than to those who are not pregnant. But most of the women in these studies lived in Europe, North America or Asia. Until now, little data was available from Africa.

Populations in Africa are typically younger than those in Europe, North America and East Asia. But certain infectious diseases like HIV, malaria and tuberculosis (TB), as well as noninfectious diseases such as sickle cell anemia, are more common there. Those conditions can make it harder for the body to fight off infections.

Roughly a third were pregnant and had tested positive

for the coronavirus. Another third were pregnant and had tested negative, and the other third were not pregnant and had tested positive. The researchers tested how pregnancy, infection with the coronavirus, and conditions such as HIV, TB, malaria and sickle cell anemia affected a woman’s likelihood of severe disease or death.

The findings were grim.

Pregnant women who were hospitalized in sub-Saharan Africa were five times more likely to die in the hospital if they tested positive for the coronavirus. And being pregnant doubled the odds that a woman admitted to a hospital with COVID-19 would die.

We had it in both ways: pregnancy impacted COVID, and COVID impacted pregnant women.

Before this Court verified joint petition for the approval and registration of the Divorce filed by petitioners and alleging among others. That petitioners are husband and wife respectively in a marriage performed under Civil rite on December 18, 2012 at Cagayan de Oro City, both petitioner’s had been converted to Muslim and thereby embraced Islam Religion as their new found faith, by virtue of their respective intellectual choices which were duly registered with this Court, both of them can be served summons and other legal processes relative to this case at their resident Purok 1, Simaya, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon and Brgy. Kalilangan, Iligan City, respectively; That said marriage did not last long due to lack of love and affection until the relationship manifested incompatibility and sustained misunderstanding between petitioners and reached the point of irreconcilability and they separated for each other for some reason of which both petitioner finally decided to legally break or severe their marriage bond for more than two (2) years their separation, they had never been communicating or supporting either financially or emotionally to each other, neither minding each other affair’s; petitioner seek judicial decree of divorce, thereby, severing their marriage bond on December 18, 2012 so that they will have free hand to do what a single man or woman could do without marital burdens. Reconciliation between them had already been diligently employed but all proved futile.

WHEREFORE, finding this petition to be sufficient in form and substance, set the initial hearing of this case on July 11, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at which time, date and place. Any interested party may appear and show why the petition should not be granted. Let copy of this Order be published in newspaper of General Circulation in the City of Iligan once a week for three (3) consecutive weeks at the expense of the petitioners.

ARQ plans to fund 10 more MEs by year end to add to its current portfolio, which now stands at 22 MEs. The investment company is also raising additional capital from development institutions to fund its investments.

Market base for smart capital In the same briefing, ARQ co-founder and managing partner Abigail D. Tan said the market base for smart capital investors could be worth over P25 billion (US$480 million).

Tan said this is the equivalent of 20 percent of 4,800 medium enterprises in the Philippines identified by the end of 2020 that may have high-growth potential, which is one of ARQ’s fundamental requirements.

“We typically support entrepreneurs requiring more than P25 million during their companies’ highgrowth phase, especially those with revenues hitting between P100 million to P500 million,” said Tan. She said that as the country rises from the Covid-19 pandemic, ARQ will likely support companies engaged in the “building blocks of transformation” that drive economic growth.

One area greatly impacted is education. Nations all over the world have been using different approaches so their children can continue to learn. Here in the Philippines, modular distance learning and online classes are used to reach out children and continue their schooling. These are all possible in everything that we do if we have focus.

One of the keys to healthily achieving our goals in life is to stay focus on our work, on who we are, on enjoying life, and on the values we want to bring to the world.

If we don’t develop the abil-

ity to focus, we may fail in many ways. And once we get beyond our concern, many of us realize that developing focus is something we need to do to get what we want out of life. At any rate, as we enter this process simultaneously adjusting to changes in our lives and shifts occurring in the world our major task becomes clear; to reiterate, we have to bring a focus to a blurry parts of our lives. We must figure out how to get beyond our ambivalence and be able to say, this is what I am committed to. This is my work. This is how and where I’m going to learn more. This is what it is, and who is, important to me in the long run. And this is I have to do to follow through.

Life isn’t fair. It doesn’t fall in place as easily for some of us as it does for others. But one thing for sure, having focus in goals of life especially in educative process with strong determination and prayers, everything will come to success.
