DSWD sets deadline of list of Marawi evacuees By CRIS DIAZ Executive Editor
CAGAYAN de Oro City-The final list of evacuees from the war torn Marawi City would be submitted Wednesday as the basis for the distribution of relief and financial assistance, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Tuesday. Charmain Tadlas, the
spokesperson of the DSWD in Northern Mindanao, said that the DSWD Secretar y and the Welfare Secretary of Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) has inked an agreement to make the final listing of evacuees and agreed the July 5, 2017 as the final date of submission. Tadlas said that the agreement was reached
after welfare officials and field workers noticed that the number of evacuees seeking financial and relief assistance is growing every day. She said that under the agreement all evacuees have to submit information about the barangays where they came in order for the DSWD and the ARMM to make an actual head count of people affected by the
Marawi armed conflict. “Only the names that are validated and revalidated in the final list would be extended the necessary assistance,” Tadlas said. An evacuee is entitled to relief assistance consisting of food packs, rice, sanitar y items, kitchen utensils, clothing, blankets and sleeping items. She said a cash assistance of Php 5,000 would
be extended to every family evacuee who opt to return to Marawi City on the day they leave the evacuation center. “As of Tuesday, the DSWD has listed a total of 2,341 families-evacuees who were directly affected by the Marawi City armed conflict in five evacuation centers in Iligan City and Lanao Del Norte,” Tadlas said.
Shake out, tsunami drill set July 14 THE Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and Central have set a city-wide shake out and tsunami drill in the morning of July 14 Emmanuel Jaldon, the Action Officer of the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DCRRDMO) and chief of Central 911 the city-wide drill is a full scale exercise to test preparedness of tsunami and shake out drill. When the triggering mechanism strikes at 9:00 a.m., Jaldon said people must “duck, cover and hold”. “Our triggering mechanism will be the time at 9:00am Philippine Standard Time (PST) and not the blowing of siren,” he said. People can also use whistle or bell. It is now a standard in Davao City that no more siren or emergency alarm will be used to signal the start of an earthquake drill, according to Jaldon. MARANAOS, who are now residing in Iligan City, lauded Mayor Celso Regencia for his “unwavering support” to their fellow thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Marawi

ism, any act of inciting to terror in the hearth of the defenseless civilian, the destruction of places of worship and properties. “The killing of innocent men, women and children are all forbidden according to Islam,” Ali pointed out. He said the Holy Qur’an expressly stated that to
kill a single life without a valid reason is like to kill all human kind of this world, Allah says because of that we ordained for the children of Israel that if anyone killed a person not retaliation of murder or to spread mischief of the Land it would be as if he killed all mankind.
She said that each family evacuee has a total number of four to five household members or a total of about 11,705 individuals. Tadlas said that the DSWD has recorded more than 34, 000 Marawi evacuees who are currently residing in their relatives in Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon, all provinces in Northern Mindanao.
Teachers, parents protest burning of classroom
KIDAPAWAN City––The Philippine flag was hoisted in half-mast at a public school in Makilala town in North Cotabato since Monday after unidentified armed men burned one of its classrooms, a barangay official said. Barangay Chair Melvin Fortajada of Malasila, Makilala said the flag would be placed in half-mast until Wednesday as sign of protest by the teachers and parents to the incident. At around 3:45 p.m. Sunday, armed men razed the Grade One classroom of the Balawan Elementary School in Sitio Balawan, Malasila. Cotabato provincial fire marshal Ibrahim Guiamalon, in a radio interview on Tuesday, estimated the damage at P700 thousand. Most of the pupils of the school belong to the Manobo tribe. Fortajada said that when he visited the school on Monday he saw no pupils and teachers. See TEACHERS, page 11
