MisOr lauds Ginataan Festival By GERRY LEE GORIT Correspondent
MEDINA, Misamis Oriental – The Provincial Tourism Office of this province has expressed elation over the recently concluded 3rd Ginataan Festival, calling the performances of the contingents to the Street Dance and Tableau Contest “vibrant, jubilant and resilient” during this town’s 71st Araw ng Medina and 70th Araw ng Parokya celebrations, being held from June 24 to July 5, 2019. Atty. Jeffrey Saclot, pro-
vincial tourism officer of Misamis Oriental, said the festival is “a very good start as the Province of Misamis Oriental prepares for the Kuyamis Festival held every January.” He also conveyed the delight felt by Misamis Oriental Governor Bambi Emano in Medina’s highlighting of coconut (lubi in the vernacular) through its Ginataan (coconut milk product) Festival, aligning with kuyamis’. As a gesture of jubilation, Gov. Emano added up the cash prize
intended for the winners in yesterday’s competition. Saclot said festivals, like the Ginataan Festival, helps in the promotion of the province’s culture and tourism. “Rest assured that the Provincial Tourism Office will support other towns that will venture into tourism developments,” he added. Atty. Saclot, who chaired the board of judges, expressed satisfaction over the performances of the seven contingents that participated in both the street and field competitions, saying their
performances were “vibrant, energetic and resilient with a feeling of never-surrender” despite the rains during the competition. He also commended the local government unit under Mayor Donato Chan and wife, Marriane, for the successful holding of the events being held for the 70th Araw ng Parokya, 71st Araw ng Medina and the 3rd Ginataan Festival of which hundreds of residents eagerly anticipated and attended in support See LAUDS, page 11

The official said the local government already addressed the problems in some of these barangays due to the implementation of major drainage projects along with the national government these past years. He said they expect the risk of flooding to be lesser in communities covered by the drainage projects. But he said they are concerned with See ALERT, page 11
