CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Bureau of Customs in Cagayan de Oro, through the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) in Northern Mindanao, has confiscated Mazda Scrum mini-vans and a military jeep estimated to be worth P5 million at the Mindanao Container Terminal in Tagoloan town, Misamis Oriental, Customs official said on yesterday. According to CIIS chief for Northern Mindanao Oliver Valiente, the imported items from Japan were discovered to be “misdeclared” when they examined the contents of the container van. He said the cargo, which arrived at the MCT sub-port in the first week of June this year, was declared as “used truck parts” but upon examination by BOC-10 authorities, it turned out that the items were disassembled Mazda Scrum mini-vans. Valiente said the decision of the CIIS to conduct a spot check on cargo was based on the profiling of shipments. A military jeep, Valiente

Yuan’s health Solon asks Duterte, recall Baby condition worsens, Bacarro as SOLCOM cmdr says sis-in-law By CRIS DIAZ Executive Editor

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Deputy House Speaker and Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez on Thursday asked for the recall of Maj. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro’s appointment as commander of the military’s Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM). Rodriguez made the appeal in a letter to President

Rodrigo Duterte citing that “Mr. Bacarro was one of those responsible for the death by hazing of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) cadet Darwin Dormitorio on Sept. 18, 2019. He said that the Baguio City police case filed criminal charges against Bacarro and then PMA Supt. Lt. Gen. Ronnie Evangelista, but the city prosecutor’s of-

fice dismissed the Generals while several underlings were charged in court. Rodriguez recalled that at the time Dormitorio died of hazing, Bacarro was commandant of cadets and has direct responsibility over the activity that resulted in Dormitorio’s death. “The family of Dormitorio expressed surprised on Bacarro’s appointment and

brought the plaints to the Office of the House Deputy Speaker,” Rodriquez said. The Dormitorio family contended that the appointment of Bacarro as SOLCOM commander was a grave injustice to our late constituent, his family and the people of Cagayan de Oro City, Rodriguez said. Duterte signed the former PMA official’s appointment Monday, June 28.
