Gov’t troopers, Reds clash in Lanao Sur: 2 soldiers wounded By DIVINA M. SUSON Correspondent
BUTIG, Lanao del Sur-Two soldiers of the army’s 49th Infantry Battalion were wounded in an encounter on Sunday morning (July 28) with a group of armed men believed to be members of the Guerilla Front 12 of the Sub-Regional Committee 5 of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Sitio Pangulingan, Barangay Sabala Bantayao, Lumba Bayabao, Lanao del Sur. Lieutenant Colonel Edgar Allan Villanueva, chief of the Army’s 49th Infantry Battalion, said the government troops were able to discover an encampment in the area but before they have finally penetrated it, an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded about 20 meters away from the camp, “beside an old logging road”. The explosion hit the two soldiers identified as Corporal Harvey Robrigado and Private First Class Juland Rubio. Robrigado was hit on his right rib while Rubio See WOUNDED, page 11

Emano said that Tan would represent Misamis Oriental in the search for Ms. Binibining Pilipinas 2019 this year. Prior to winning the coveted crown, Tan is the reigning Ms. Kuyamis Festival queen, an annual beauty pageant of the provincial government of Misamis Oriental. MAL AYBAL AY CIT Y, Bu k i d n o n - - A fo r m e r tribal rebel who joined the military was killed while two others wounded in a clashed with the communist New People’s Army (NPA) in the hinterlands of Mt. Balatucan in Misamis Oriental. Cpl. Fermin Lindahay, of Sitio Lantad, Brgy Kibanban, Balingasag in Misamis Oriental, was killed during the armed encounter with the NPA rebels Friday. Another suspected communist rebel was wounded and later rescued by the military. His identity was not immediately disclosed. Lindahay was a former NPA regular who was active in the rebel movement in the early 90s before he surrendered and joined the military. Capt. Ryan D. Layug, the spokesperson of the army’s 403rd Brigade based in Malaybalay, said that a soldier was also wounded in the running gun battle in the mountain range of Balatucan, which started four days ago.
