CSWD to train teachers in psychosocial therapy to IDPs By MARK FRANCISCO
PROFESSIONAL psychologists and associates from the City Social Welfare Department (CSWD) of Cagayan de Oro will be training teachers on how to undergo psychosocial therapy to elementary and secondary students enrolled here who were displaced in the ongoing battles in Marawi City. City Social Welfare Department chief psychologist Jayvee Leonen admitted on Thursday that they are overwhelmed with the large number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) that they are catering and their manpower is
stretched thin. In Cagayan de Oro City alone, there are 14,994 persons displaced since the armed conflict in Marawi City began in May. Of these, 2,946 are elementary and secondary graders temporarily enrolled in 40 public schools here. Leonen said they could not personally provide psychosocial intervention to each one of them but they could train other professionals to do so, in this instance the public school teachers. ILIGAN CITY -- More than 300 internally displaced persons (IDPs)have already availed of the Medical Assistance Program (MAP) of the Department of Health (DOH) which aims to ensure financial support to patients needing medical services. 37 residents of the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) graduate from Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II through the Sustainable Livelihood Program.
