Fare exemptions, a brilliant move, says Rep. Juliette Uy
T
HE Transportation Department’s fare exemptions for students is a brilliant move to decongest the trains and light rails during rush hours, according to Rep. Juliette T. Uy of the House transportation committee, who noticed that the availment timeslots are before rush hour peak times.
“Decongestion of the trains can also lead to lighter train loads and fewer line disruptions,” Rep. Uy said. The congresswoman also said the terminal fee exemption for students could also encourage more students to travel as domestic tourists. “Many backpacker tour-
ists are students, said Rep. Uy. “I hope the airlines and shipping companies will see the DoTr move as a signal for them to develop the backpacker tourist segment dominated by studentsm,” added Rep. Uy of Misamis Oriental (2nd District) of the House committee on tourism.
