LIANGA, Surigao del Sur—Some 2,000 Manobo lumads from nine hinterland communities of this town fled their homes anew fearing an imminent military operation after they saw a military helicopter hovering around their villages past Wednesday midnight. zone ordered to settle a total back taxes amounting to more than P2 billion or “leave.” The Philippine Veterans Investment Development Corporation (Phividec) has issued the order Friday for STEAG and the other companies to “pay up or get out”

of the Phividec Industrial Estate in Misamis Oriental (PIE-MO), the only industrial economic zone in Northern Mindanao, that host to about 80 industrial companies. In a talk with the local media, Benjo Benaldo, a member of the Board of

Directors of the Phivedec (PIE-MO), said that he has a marching order to implement the collection of the back taxes against STEAG and several other companies in the industrial zone. Benaldo said that among the existing big companies who owed back taxes to the

CAGAYAN de Oro City--A 71-year-old man died while 500 others were admitted to provincial hospitals as the provincial government of Misamis Oriental declared Friday an outbreak of “diarrhea” in the coastal town of Medina, 112 kilometers east of here. Reports have quoted Dr. Jerie Calingasan, the provincial health officer, as saying that about 400 individuals have suffered See diarrhea, page 11

In a press conference here, Dimaporo said that the local government unit in Lanao del Norte would submit a resolution Monday asking the Napolcom to review the resolution to possibly lift the order of withdrawal of the deputation in Lanao Del Norte and its town mayors.
