Davao City braces for possible Covid-19 surge By CHE PALICTE
DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Duterte disclosed Monday the city government is continuously preparing for the possible surge of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases after the holiday season. MANILA – The country is now classified high risk for Covid-19 following the increase in cases toward the end of 2021, a health official said Monday. Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the epidemic curve shows the current average daily cases have increased significantly by 570 percent this
week – December 27, 2021 to January 2, 2022 – which is seven times higher than in previous weeks. “Nationally we are now at high-risk case classification from low-risk case class in the previous week showing a positive two-week growth rate at 222 percent, and a “moderate risk average daily attack rate of 1.07 case for every 100,000 individuals,”
Vergeire said in a media forum. She added that the Covid-cluster clinic is also readying the temporary treatment and monitoring facilities (TTMFs). “Our TTMFs, they already had their inventory and are planning as to when they will be activated. We already have a guide in the event of a surge,” she said. Duterte also assured
the city government has coordinated with the private hospitals for those who will be needing hospitalization and medical attention. To reduce the possibility of a surge, she reiterated to Dabawenyos to continue adhering to minimum public health standards and get vaccinated. Duterte also reminded the public to practice physical distancing as she noted that some are no longer observing the protocol. (PNA)
