riculture – hailed the new development, saying it is timely for the usage of the facility due to the recent passage of the Coco Levy Act in Congress, waiting for signature by President Duterte into law. Villar assured her full support of the project which was mainly courtesy of cigarette giant Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corpora-

tion. Atty. Cancio Nicanor Guibone, PMFTC Inc. head of corporate affairs for Mindanao, said the company granted the provincial government of Misamis Oriental last October a deed of grant of usufructuary rights to use the seven-hectare facility for agricultural purposes and even build minimal structures therein.

Also on hand gracing the event last Friday (January 22) and expressing his full support to the project was Misamis Oriental first district Rep. Christian Unabia who said that usage of the facility will complement his many agricultural outreaches in his district. According to Sangguniang Panlalawigan committee on agriculture chair Fredrick Khu, the complex – strategically located at the agricultural heartland of Misamis Oriental – will primarily be a venue for the processing of various agricultural produce in the province. “This will address value-adding needs by farmers, fisherfolk and agri-entrepreneurs and most especially, address the rampant issue of post-harvest loss,” Khu said. Provincial agriculturist Jose Apollo Pacamalan said that the complex will be a state-of-the-art facility which would cater various food processing technologies such as drying, bottling and preservation, among others. How I wish I am the boss and I could have all the best days on the job with many things accomplished not by me but by my subordinates who is obliged to follow orders from the manager. This was my thought 5 years ago when I was still a classroom teacher. I must say; it was too selfish of me thinking that way. This is what I have deemed doing and I congratulated myself for the leader in me. I have influenced myself to really do what I ought to do. I always believe that to lead is to do. I know God has made each one with a purpose. So much to my desire to become skilled at leading and influencing I have read an article about the art of influencing and I am so delighted by it .I would like to share it to you. Here it goes. “Golden Rules of Influence” 1. Golden Rule of Influence #1: “Live a life of undivided integrity”. There is so much to be said about integrity, but it boils down to one word: trust. If people don’t trust you, they

don’t want to be around you. Build your foundation for life and business on honesty, and know that you have the best start possible. 2. Golden Rule of Influence # 2: “Always Demonstrate a Positive Attitude”. When you choose to stay positive you are ultimately choosing to see the world in a positive way. You are choosing to believe that something good can come from negative circumstances and that the future will be better than the present. 3. Golden Rule of Influence # 3: “Consider Other People’s Interests as More Important than Your Own”. It’s pretty easy to think of all the things you want, it’s a little harder to think outside of yourself and consider others. 4. In the new normal abnormality, one day reappears like every year: it’s time again for Valentine’s Day. Do you know something about the legend of St. Valentine? The history of Valentine’s Day – and the story of its patron saint – is indeed shrouded in mystery. We do know that February has long been celebrated as a month of romance, and that St. Valentine’s Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. From February 13 to 15, the Romans celebrated the feast of Lupercalia. ... Emperor Claudius II executed two men — both named Valentine — on Feb. 14 of different years in the 3rd century A.D. Their martyrdom was honored by the Catholic Church with the celebration of St. Valentine’s Day. Being married with a Filipina for almost 38 years now, Valentine’s Day lets me always recall lovely moments from the past. In a very old issue of PHILADELPHIA NEWS,

which is still on my desk, columnist Larr y Fields confessed: “I lead a life of wine, women and song (by the way, a wonderful waltz by the Austrian king of waltz Johann Strauss!) - it’s cheaper than petrol, food and rent!” Well, some marriages are made in heaven. You know some? I do. The best of the rest are down-toearth. Maybe also yours? I am blessed and happy celebrating my wedding anniversary in March. Maybe you remember this: “Then the prince swept the lovely young maiden into his arms and carried her home to his castle. And they live happily ever after!” Indeed, they did. What I would like to see is an autonomous in home affairs study of all these titles of nobility bearers seven years after their happilyever-after marriages. or even earlier, because the so-called darned and tricky seventh marriage year could be even the first one already. The truth is that life isn’t made up of the continual highs found in the initial stages of courtship. Of course, flirting is fun and a wide groove exists. But after a while our system needs a

rest. Unanimously we’re in the second stage sooner or later and our marriage life needs badly a new outside coating. All of a sudden, the partner prefers day and night watching all the sports channels, falls asleep while you’re revealing your innermost secrets and even forgets the anniversary for the first or even second time . Just bear in mind: You’ve won each other’s acceptance and sometimes even feelings terribly gloomy. This acceptance shouldn’t be undervalued. Even when we see a house that has to be cleaned, many other things have to be organized, and the partner, who looks as fatigued and bored as you feel. Logical question: “That’s it? That WAS it?” And suddenly, we experienced the third stage and learned why it’s worth the ups and downs. What of China?

CHANGES in global events mandate that our political leaders and we as a nation must be circumspect. It requires the shedding off of our prejudices and biases for in the irony of unfolding events our prejudices have become our biases and biases our prejudices. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the abnormal has become a new normal, and being negative is to be positive. Funny and corny but that is how and where we are today. We stand in the bend watching the superpowers display their economic and military powers. We know by now who are the aggressors, the winners, whiners, and losers. The US of A has pulled its armada from the Middle East after it has laid many countries to waste and changed direction in what is now known as the infamous “Asian Pivot”. But the country it intends to shock with its might is no longer a pygmy it knew 30 years ago or so. Since it completely raised the bamboo curtain in 1979 and invited foreign investors under free-market reforms China enjoyed sustained economic growth that averages at 9.5%. In a wink of an eye, it became the major trading partner of the United States of America. China became the biggest source of imports in the US

while China became the US major export market. In time China is the biggest holder of the US Treasury Securities and the mighty dollar reserves. Meanwhile, more than 800-million of China’s population had been extricated from the quagmire of poverty and ignorance. Truly China has become the biggest economic power in the world. The US hates to admit it and tried to suppress this by putting up all the trade barriers it can think of. But not a few among us Pinoys are not aware of the mind-boggling economic strides that took place and still taking place in China. Many still think of rickshaws, square tenements for peasants in Duan Da clothes that are made from coarse hemp fibers, and bicycles as a mode of transportation. Our prejudices stemmed from our fetish for American made “Amerikana”, chocolates, chiclets, and aquiline noses of the Westerners. But it is not the fault of many living senior citizens. It was a crime to travel to China then so America was the favorite destination, even until now, by Filipinos who are enamored with and nursed the itch of an American dream - the prospect of prosperity and success. Thus, our penchant for

American-made products, the thrill of riding in Amtrak train which runs faster than the Bicol Express, the jingling of dollar cents in Las Vegas slot machines, Disneyland in California, the Square Garden of New York, the Capitol, and obelisk in Washington DC. At the end of the day, we rush to duty-free shops where people scramble for US brand apparel and what have you only to find out these are made in China. The stark reality is that China has overtaken many western countries not only in economic statistics but in the transport system, road and bridge infrastructures, manufacturing outputs, some areas in communications technology and scientific advancements, and the number of new millionaires that emerged in just two decades. The peasants now live in highrise condos and if they do not have cars at least they have scooters. Teaching Araling Panlipunan to Grade 1 requires teacher’s innovation especially on activity being introduced in the curriculum guide that will eventually create learning confusion and misconception. Role playing is an activity use as technique for enhancing teaching and learning. This is used to convey ideas that may be by their nature abstract or symbolic. For example in social studies, unity as a concept can be taught effectively by role playing. There is no about question about it. Curriculum makers themselves really see to it that lessons are well- planned and made. It is in the hands of the teachers to assess its efficacy and competency. Teachers are the key implementers of curriculum thus their innovativeness will be of great help. If the activity suggested in the learning guide is irrelevant and complicating then it can be discarded or modified. What is importantis the end, the learning of the pupils. School heads should always be the guiding light of the key players, teachers. He or she must prioritize instructional leadership. With the new curriculum, Enhanced Basic Education is the challenge for school

leaders to really upkeep the teachers especially on instructional materials. Geijsel, Sleegers, Stoel & Krüger (2007) found that the use of leadership power is crucial for continuous nurturing and promotion of knowledge and skills of teachers through curriculum and instructional leadership. Instructional support strategies, such as “making suggestions, giving feedback, modelling, using inquiry and soliciting advice and opinions from teachers, and giving praise” (Blase & Blase, 1999:367) are available for principals’ use. Grimmett (1996) also noted that principals should play five key leadership roles and actions in curriculum and instructional leadership: instructional support, collaborative inquiry modelling collegiality and experimentation, focusing teacher talk on action, helping teachers to frame their inquiry, and connecting action with pupils’ learning. Affording leadership on implementing curriculum is a practice of intensifying the focal point of the educational goal on school visions, evaluation, and whole-school community, communication processes and learners’ outcomes by cultivating teachers’ competence and resource provisions.

The first LAC Session was last September 18, 2020 held at Sinuda National High School Science Laboratory Room. The program started with a prayer, followed by the singing of Philippine National Anthem. A welcome remark was delivered by the principal Maam Delia A. Cagmat and at the same time she also gave an overview about what is Learning Delivery Modality. After her talked, the LAC Facilitator Mrs. Rosavelia Jimenez grouped the teachers according to their respective major. The Facilitator further explained the procedures before doing the activities. The teachers were grouped into 7, some of them were merged with other majors. On the first session, the educators find it challenging the LDM 1 and 2 but they are grateful at the same time that they can share their ideas with their colleagues. The second LAC Session in Learning Delivery Modalities

for teachers continued last October 01, 2020 at exactly 8 o’clock in the morning. The program begin with an invocation followed by the singing of the National anthem. Before the LAC Session proper, teachers were asked to stand and participate the Zumba dance exercise to energize them. After the activity they proceed immediately to their designated cluster to continue their task. The teachers were tasked to answer LDM 3A and B. It was a mind blowing questions. Everyone were challenge to come up with best answers. It was another tough session for them. The Facilitator was very active in monitoring the group who have questions regarding the LDM. She was patient in teaching the procedures. The last session was last October 12, 2020. The third LAC session focused on LDM 4 and 5. Among the three sessions, the third session was the most challenging. Teachers were asked to come up with their own Portfolios and Action Research. The participants enjoyed the said activity. They were very focused and eager to finish the activity. The LAC session was very organized from the beginning to end. The participants mind were sharpen with deeper understanding about the different learning modalities. The teachers were grateful on the new experiences and learning insights they gain from the sessions.

IT is now widely recognized that reading and decoding print are relatively low-level skills. High cognitive ability is not required to read text and IQ is more important when it comes to understanding text. Many children with reading difficulties actually have a learning difficulty that affects the skills required for accurate and fluent word reading and spelling. Being able to identify how a child is struggling to read is crucial when providing support. A dyslexic reader has real difficulties decoding words, hearing and manipulating phonics and putting words together. They could well have a good IQ and good comprehension skills but can’t read. Most children who fail to read are capable of being good readers and catching up with their peers if taught correctly. Research has shown that those targeted young enough can even ameliorate the effects of their reading disorder. Interventions such as activity-based games and multisensory teaching are effective in helping retain more words and sounds. Other strategies include reciprocal teaching, co-reading, flash cards and establishing target words to read by sight. FIRST, parents must understand the assignment. We make sure what books are assigned and if there are any projects to go with the reading that are also assigned. Is there a specific way the noYvel should be highlighted or annotated? Can it be read on an e-reader of must the book be the print version? Will there be a test or quiz on the next day in school? One reading trend nowadays is chat fiction. Because the platform used is a cellphone, words are often abbreviated. This is a particular concern that must be addressed both by parents and English teachers. Younger people are flocking to chat fiction instead of traditional books. Chat fiction apps allow users to read in a format that they know very well – text messaging. Stories

are short and fast-paced in the form of a text conversation where there is participation by the reader. The details engage both sides of the brain as readers interpret the images and the words. In order for students to understand better what they’re reading, they must be fun after all. It also advances children’s skills. For younger kids, reading out loud is highly encouraged. With so many distractions available to them – namely their phone and applications on their phone…and more applications on their phone – it’s getting harder and harder to turn children on to reading. The idea of sitting down with a good book and losing yourself in it seems to be a casualty of today’s instanton entertainment-saturated culture. It’s not just reading skills that are being lost. It’s possible

that, adding together all the webpages, social media links and other bits and pieces of text that surround us, kids are reading as much as or even more than they were in the pre-digital era. But with reading, it’s not just raw figures that count. It’s the quality of experience that’s being missed out on. Reading books teach comprehension and vocabulary certainly but it also teachers the pleasures of slowly building anticipation, the importance of lingering and reviewing to draw new meanings and interactions, the projection of self into imagined worlds of our own making. So how do we get kids interested in reading? Take them to the library. Get to know the children’s section. Ask them for a commitment. At the beginning of the week, ask your child, “What are you going to read this week that isn’t on the cellphone?”

In life, we’ve learned that true happiness comes from giving and sharing our own blessings. Helping others along the way makes us evaluate who we are. Being able to extend our hand to others is a great privilege for us teachers for it makes us realized how to become concerned to those who are in need, it also makes us understand the spirit of compassion and give what we have in times of pandemic. As mentors of Sinuda National High School, our team Eidolon was tasked in Sitio Pinanubuan and Sitio Omar to conduct an outreach program. A simple program was organized by my fellow teachers which tackle the important topic based on the situation of the New Normal Education Program by Department of Education, on how we overcome our education beyond facing this COVID-19 crises. Even if we experiencing this pandemic, we as teachers did our best to reach the student who live in remote areas and encourage them to continue their studies despite of the tough situation. The program started with a prayer lead by Sir Joseph Valderama the faculty president of Sinuda National High School. It was followed by a welcome address from our accountable and energetic Sitio Leader Joseph M. Lato. In his address he thanked the faculty members in extending their support and generosity to the continue. He also encouraged the students to pursue their dreams in life despite of poverty. After his message Maam Rosavelia Jimenez discussed the main purpose of the program.

Ma’am Shiela Cata gave an update about the enrollment and how to fill up the forms. She also encouraged the learners not to stop in studies. Ma’am Alona C. Luna gaved an orientation about the modules. She asked the students what are their struggles in answering the learning modules. One of the students shared his experienced in answering the module. He said that it was really difficult in their part because of the poor internet connection. There are some activities that need internet access but unfortunately, they cannot make it. Sir Joseph Valderama discussed the Mathematics Module. He also gave an inspiring message to everyone. Ma’am Golden Grace G. Batistis clarified some errors in the modules. We also asked some response from the sitio leader and parent about the program. They were very grateful for the success of the program. After the orientation and discussion, we prepared simple snacks for them, we brought candies, lollipop, bread, juice and biscuits. Everyone was smiling while receiving the snacks. At exactly 12:00 noon everybody learned a lot about the topic discussed and enjoyed the snacks prepared by the group and then continue the fun, everyone wore a big smile in their faces as they go home with their gift from us. Improving competence for quality instruction should be supported by school heads and other key officials in the educational system. That is to provide teachers with various materials and facilities which promote learning. Seminars and trainings are also of big help.
