First integrated steel mill in PH set to break ground this March Oro Chamber President Robert Pizarro

AGAYAN de Oro —The country’s biggest integrated steel mill is set to break ground this March 2020 in time for the celebration of President Duterte’s 75th birthday.

Spearheading this historic event is Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc (Oro Chamber) President Robertino E. Pizarro as he calls on all stakeholders in Mindanao to join hands in pushing the project to hit the ground running early this year for the $4-billion steel mill plant at Phividec Industrial Estate in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental. Pizarro who is also the President and CEO of Simple Homes Development Corporation said all systems go to jump-start the country’s biggest single investment set to spur economic activity in Mindanao to an unprecedented level of development. Preparations of the ground breaking event are

now taking shape in alliance with various stakeholders and partners of the project, Pizarro said. PROJECT ALLIANCE Simple Homes Development Corporation is the lone Filipino partner of Huili Integrated Steel Mill, a China-funded investment that is seen to generate 10,000 jobs in the first three years of its operation. This first Mindanao Integrated Steel Mill is formed by China’s three leading companies – Huili Fund, Baowu Steel Group Corporation Ltd (China Baowu), and China Metalurgical Group Corporation’s subsidiary, CISDI Group Co Ltd. (CISDI). China Baowu, the new technical partner to operate the steel mill, currently

ranks first in China and second in the world as the largest steel producer in the world measured by crude steel output. China Baowu is poised to apply its state-of-art, green and intelligent technology in this steel project. Torres said MinBC supports the Oro Chamber and all other business groups in Mindanao to make things happen for this project to accelerate the economic development of Mindanao.
