DILEEP aids 3,273 Oro beneficiaries in 2019 CAGAYAN de Oro City --A total of Php 13,004,118.25 grants were released by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Cagayan de Oro City Field Office (CDO FO) for the calendar year 2019 under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP).

DOLE-X CDO FO Chief Ebba B. Acosta said about Php8,002,900 of this amount has been disbursed for the provision of emergency

employment to 1,228 displaced and disadvantaged workers from the two districts of the city. Their 10 to 30-day work scope includes road maintenance and de-clogging of canals, tree planting, coastal cleanup, street sweeping and cleaning of public facilities with each worker receiving Php3,650 to Php10,950 salary, depending on the number of actual days worked.

Some 78 vulnerable workers like parents of child laborers, persons with

disability (PWDs), senior citizens, women, and indigenous persons (IPs) have also availed of the DOLE individual starter kits up to Php 20,000 each. Among the projects given to them were hog fattening, carpentry services, vegetable gardening, hog raising and breeding, bigasan, ukay-ukay business, rice trading, sari-sari with food eatery, tattoo shop and balut-selling.

BARMM is new caretaker of Grand Mosque

OTABATO City – The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is now the official caretaker of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque or Grand Mosque in Barangay Kalanganan II here.

This development ended a nine-year impasse between the then Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and Cotabato City, which belonged to Region 12 until the plebiscite on BARMM in January last year, on which entity would manage the country’s largest mosque.

On Wednesday, BARMM Chief Minister Ahod “Hadji Murad” Ebrahim received the documents from the previous caretaker, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) national office through Undersecretary Emil Sadain.

Ebrahim promised to improve the internal and external sections of the mosque, BARMM Minister for Interior and Local Government Naguib Sinarimbo said.

“We will start the renovation effective immediately,” he said.

Around 11 million pesos has been allotted from the Bangsamoro fund to beautify the religious site. The Bureau of Cultural Heritage and the Religious (Mofti) department of the region will oversee the operations.

The Grand Mosque, designed by Filipino architect Felino Palafox, was completed in 2011 at a five-hectare lot in

barangay Kalanganan donated by the Dilangalen clan.

Brunei Darussalam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah donated US$43-million for its construction.

The DPWH, which administered the construction, could not decide whether it should turn over the mosque

to the regional government or to Cotabato City.

This prompted the national government to take charge of the mosque’s maintenance with the help of some generous individuals, Sinarimbo said.

He said Ebrahim had invited Sultan Bolkiah to visit the mosque sometime this year or

the next.

The ruler of Brunei Darussalam is known for his financial contributions to the construction of mosques.

Middle East remains fragile, Pres. Trump’s reelection seen The advent of the year 2020 has everyone getting a glimpse of the challenges and opportunities ahead.

The Iran-US conflict almost blew out of proportion. The community of nations followed the unfolding event, up close and personal.

There is no doubt that the delicate Iran-US conflict brought every world leader on the toe. In some corners, those with fertile imaginations were already trying to configure the raising of the Armageddon curtains in the smoldering desert of the Middle East. WWIII! The unstable price of oil in the world market unprecedentedly moved while oil dependent countries, like the Philippines, expected gloomy days ahead.

In fact, President Rodrigo Duterte called an emergency meeting to re-

activate the “task force” that would evacuate Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in the Middle East. The time of uncertainty was the call of the day.

However, the fidgety international community heaved a sigh of relief with the US stepping a foot backward. Frisky US President Donald Trump cools down when no American casualties were reported. Iran launched a barrage of missile attacks on US bases in Iraq, a few days after the killing of Iran’s top General.

The imminent conflict started with the controversial killing of Maj. General Quasem Soleimani, the top man of the Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Iran accused the US of assassinating Soleimani while about to board a car at the Bhagdad International Airport.

The US accused Soleimani of killing hundreds of Americans in Iraq. Trump alleged that the killing of Soleimani was precipitated following intelligence report that Soleimani was plotting to attack and kill Iraq-based Americans. He said that the timely killing of Soleimani nips in the bud Iran’s sinister plot to kill Americans in Iraq. According to Trump, Soleimani was in the Order of Battle even before he became President. The plan to kill Soleimani was carried out on his order.

The US prepares the possible consequences and shows that it is ready to meet force with force following the deployment of additional 3,500 US troops a day after the incident.

Zamboanga - Kota Kinabalu resume flights this March Philippine Airlines (PAL) to s o on s e r ve f l i g ht s from Zamboanga to Kota Kinabalu and back starting March 31 according to Sabah's Deputy Chief Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Environment, Christina Liew.

"This is good for the business community, trading, fraternity, and leisure travelers," Liew said.

During the late 90s, there were flights between Z amb o ang a and Kot a Kinabalu, and it was one

of the key routes for the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA). Unfortunately, it didn't last long and by the early 2000s, flights from Zamboanga to Kota Kinabalu were discontinued.

A year ago, PAL had made a courtesy call with Christina Liew as they planned to re-open the Zamboanga - Kota Kinabalu flights.

Hints and Traces

A really good rest THERE are, of course, different ways and kinds of rest. But we should try to have a really good one that is fit to our dignity as persons and children of God. And this kind of rest can only be found in Christ who precisely said: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Mt 11, 28) It is this rest that takes care of all the aspects of our need for rest — physical, mental, emotional, etc.

— integrating them and reinforcing them in their contributions to serve, rather than undermine, our human and Christian dignity.

With this rest, our love for God and for others continues to vibrate. In fact, with this rest, our love for God and for others would

grow and would keep on being creative and inventive.

With this rest, a certain renewal takes place that would trigger impulses and drive to continue doing good in spite of difficulties.

It is this rest that would prefigure the ultimate heavenly rest that Christ promised us to enjoy, where endless and pure bliss is assured. Of course, in our temporal and earthly life, our rest would always include some sacrifice, and we should not be surprised by that reality. We need to understand that a really good rest is one that will always nourish and fuel our love for God and for others. Otherwise, it is not a real rest.

We have to be wary of associating our rest with the merely physical, mental

or emotional, etc., because without basing it on Christ they can only give us some semblance of rest but not the real one. Sooner and later it can only lead us to some anomalies and irregularities that, of course, are not proper to us.

Sad to say, the common idea of rest nowadays is one where Christ is not the basis and the end. It is the kind that does not result in the renewal and growth of real love. It rather feeds our self-love, definitely a sweet poison.

And as a consequence, it is a deceptive kind of rest that can give some feelings of rest that actually would give rise to conditions that would rouse our weaknesses and would attract all kinds of temptations. It tickles the flesh but numbs the

spirit. We would become vulnerable to our weakness and the temptations.

We need to clarify this issue of our rest, and find practical and attractive ways to make the really good rest appreciated by all. As said earlier, our real rest may involve some sacrifice, but we have to reassure everyone that the dividends of such rest far outweigh the sacrifices that may be involved.

NGCP interconnection projects aimed at ONE Grid Philippines

I PSBank shortens the offer period for its 2nd Tranche Peso Fixed Rate Bond Issuance

Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank) has decided to cut short the offer period for its 2nd tranche Peso Fixed Rate Bonds to 13 January 2020 from 21 January 2020 due to strong demand.

PSBank, the thrift banking arm of the Metrobank Group raised PhP4.65 Billion in Peso Fixed Rate Bonds versus the planned initial offer of PhP3.0 Billion.

The 3-year Peso Fixed Rate Bonds which was priced at 4.5% per annum were almost 2 times oversubscribed. Interest payments will be paid on a

quarterly basis.

This second tranche is part of the Bank’s PhP40.0 Billion funding program.

Last July 2019, PSBank was able to raise PhP6.3 Billion for its first tranche. Both issuances will give the Bank an opportunity to access long-term funding as it further expands its consumer banking business.

The Bond will be listed in the Philippine Dealing and Exchange Corporation (PDEX) on February 4, 2020.

N PURSUIT of its goal of building One Grid Philippines, power transmission operator NGCP continues to embark on major interconnection projects to realize this vision.

With over 7,600 islands in the Philippine archipelago, energizing and connecting major islands to the grid was a challenge that confronted NGCP when it took over from government.

Equipped with vision of a fully interconnected and integrated power grid, and access to state-of-the-art technology, NGCP is well on its way towards this goal.

Among the first interconnection projects completed by NGCP is the PhP 6.1 billion Cebu-NegrosPanay Stage 1 submarine cable component which increases the transfer capacity of the existing corridor. A second phase of this project is an additional submarine cable for N-1 contingency which will enable the transmission grid to withstand a major system disturbance with minimal disruption to the system between Negros and Panay islands.

Since the child’s own language enables her/him to express himself/herself easily, then there is no fear of making mistakes. It encourages active participation by children in the learning process because

they understand what is being discussed and what is being asked of them.

They can immediately use their mother tongue to construct and explain their world, articulate their thoughts and add new concepts to what they already know.

Currently, there are 12 major languages that shall be the language of instruction. The major languages are Tagalog, Kapampangan, Pangasinense, Iloko, Bikol, Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Waray, Tausug, Maguindanaoan,

Maranao and Chabacano.

With this, teachers are highly encouraged to focus teaching reading in the mother tongue and the production of reading materials. Local stories, poems, biographies, folk tales, legends, jokes, riddles as well as traditional oral literature will be put into writing that will become part of the teachinglearning repertoire. ANILA — President Rodrigo Duterte is considering regulating the number of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) in the country.

In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN, the President believes imp osing restrictions on POGOs would reduce the high cases of corruption, extortion, and kidnapping linked to the operations of online gaming.

“It’s a game for the overs e as C hines e, but the thing is, this kind of, especially gambling, breeds so many things: corruption, increase in crimes of extortion and kidnapping,” Duterte said in an interview aired by dzMM on Monday.

“If you add more to this number, presently operating, you will not be able to police them all. So you have to set a number for that. It cannot be in every town and city about so many PO GO games going on,” he added.

There are around 60 POGOs operating in the country, according to the data from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.

their tax liabilities after the Finance department estimated PHP2 billion in withholding taxes from foreigners working in the gaming sector.

(AEV) raised USD400 million through the issuance of fixed-rate, US dollar-denominated Regulation dollar-only senior unsecured notes by its wholly-owned subsidiary, AEV International Pte Ltd. Sokor wastes: Volunteers swarm as mayor calls for help T

AGOLOAN, Misamis Oriental--Hundreds of volunteers responded to the call of Mayor Gomer Sabio for a “Bayanihan” to help in repacking the tons garbage from South Korea.

Sabio and Bureau of Customs (BOC) port collector John Simon came up with the “Bayanihan system” and launched “OPLAN TAPON, BASURA IBALIK SA SOUTH KOREA” to meet the January 18 and February 9 scheduled re-exportation.

The idea is to ship back the remaining 5,177 tons

of garbage dumped at the recycling facility of Verde Soko located in the economic zone of the Phividec Industrial Estate in Tagoloan. The garbage arrived in February 2019 from South Korea.

Residents living nearby have volunteered not just to help re-pack the tons of garbage to tonner bags, but also to help clean the dumpsite from possible toxic chemical contamination that could affect their source of potable water.

“It is for our own sake that we are safe against

the harm from bacteria and unsafe chemical contamination, that’s why it’s high time that we will call up diligent volunteers for the said cause,” Sabio told reporters.

At least 200 container vans are now ready to be loaded with bags of garbage placed in tonner bags donated by the provincial government of Misamis Oriental last year through the request of Task Force SoKor Basura chairman Gerardo Sabal Jr., also a provincial board member.

“Let us send these garbage back to Sokor,” said Simon as he lauded the

volunteers.

“As citizens of this country, I personally invite you to please take part in cleaning our environment, our beloved province Misamis

Oriental. We need to foster healthy environment for our children and emphasize that our country is a great nation to live in,” said Sabal.

“We always put smile on

our faces and make warm welcome to every foreign investors and visitors but please do not send your garbage here in our country,” Sabal added.

Groups hail impending re-export of Sokor waste as victory for environmental justice

THE impending re-exportation of illegal waste shipments from South Korea, described by the authorities as “misdeclared, heterogenous and injurious to public health,” has been welcomed by green groups who say it will help in rectifying the environmental injustice committed against Mindanao and the entire Filipino nation.

Davao City-based Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability (IDIS) and Quezon City-based EcoWaste Coalition hailed the planned repatriation of over 5,000 tons of South Korean waste stranded since July 2018 at the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental as confirmed by customs authorities.

Nutritionist Gillian Mckieth says seaweeds contain a rich supply of minerals, most prominently calcium, copper, iodine, iron and magnesium. They are also rich in protein, fiber and vitamins, specifically vitamin K and folic acid, vitamin A (in the form of carotenoids), vitamins C, D, E, and B while being low in calories and fats.

In order to bring healthy foods closer to the taste buds of Generation Z members, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) introduced and funded the Seaweeds Processing Value Adding to the women’s associations of Barangays Carmen Annex and Baybay Triunfo, Ozamiz City. The women were trained by Food Technologist from Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro City to make various seaweeds delight.

This project aims to introduce to the school children the seaweeds recipes such candies, jellies and maja blanca.

Moreover, it aims to generate additional income to the women and seaweeds growers in the two barangays of the city.

SEAWEED CANDIES Children basically don’t like to eat seaweeds. However, if these are used as one of the ingredients in sweets like candy and jelly, children would love and get their nutrients. For kids and older children, tasting something sweet always provides pleasure. With this, the women’s association, funded by the DTI manufactured a seaweed flavored candy. The mothers would not fear for cavities since their children’s favorite candies are served with the splendid flavors of seaweeds.

SEAWEED MAJA BLANCA Maja Blanca is one of the children’s favorite desserts. It is always served during special occasions like birthdays, holidays, Christmas and New Year.

And one does not have to worry for the ingredients in making the delicious dessert since with the very affordable price of seaweeds, one can savor maja blanca with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Health is undeniably our wealth.

This wealth is something that we do not keep in our pockets, but in our bodies. Seaweeds are more than the green or brown unpalatable food that most people know. It is indeed a gold mined not from the land, but from the waters. They give the vitamins and minerals which are needed for our health.

It will be recalled that illegal waste shipments

BOC-10 issued three warrants of seizure and detention against the illegal waste cargoes followed by a re-exportation order citing violations of DENR Administrative Order 2013-22 and the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. The repatriation of the remaining wastes from South Korean was delayed due to financial and logistical issues related to their re-bagging and transfer from the PHIVIDEC site to the MICT. Meanwhile, the EcoWaste Coalition pressed the national government to speed up its ratification of the Basel Ban Amendment, which entered into force on December 5 last year, and to adopt a full ban on foreign waste importation to protect the country from illegal waste traffic.

Facebook widens its usage by introducing the feature of posting news coming from various websites that causes convenience for people as they can check the news any time of the day. It also helps the broadcast media and printed media to disseminate information to the society. But I don’t see it that way. It is not an aid serving convenience.

It is rather an agent of fallacy. In fact, it kills the reliability that both broadcast and printed media contains.

As an account holder, it is inevitable to encounter news as I scroll through my news feed. There are news having advance information that the ones

on TV news and there came the time I put its reliability to a question.

Is this digital or technology media in the form of Facebook serving us the truth? No. Most of the news written or posted provides us misleading information which deprives us from having the truth we should know.

I can recall the death of Eddie Garcia the actor of wonderful movie in the Philippines. It shocked the whole Facebook community as it broke out but in the end, it turned out to be fake as it was reported on National TV news that he was still waiting for his recovery in the hospital. Furthermore, news in Facebook have been

more like a comedy as it continues having news like “Jake Zyrus will court Charice Pempengco if given a chance”. It can fool the uneducated people as they read those kind of news.

There are more digital media that can be the source of news which are honestly, reliable. Facebook may or make not contain the precise news but to me? It will never be the best source. We still have the broadcast and print media. But if you prefer news online make sure to check its accuracy, fairness, currency, relevance and its author to save yourself from being victims of fake news.

READING is the complex cognitive process of decoding symbols to derive meaning. It is a form of language processing.

Success in this process is measured as reading comprehension. Reading is a means for language acquisition, communication and sharing information and ideas. The symbols are typically visual (written or printed) but may be tactile (Braille). Like all languages, it is a complex interaction between text and reader shaped by prior knowledge, experiences, attitude and the language community which is culturally and socially situated. Readers use a variety of strategies to decode (i.e. to translate symbols into sounds or visual representations of speech) and comprehend. Readers may use context clues to

identify the meaning of unknown words. Readers integrate the words they have read into their existing framework of knowledge or schema.

Other types of reading are not speech-bgased writing systems such as music notation or pictograms. The common link is the interpretation of symbols to extract the meaning from the visual notations or tactile signals (as in the case of Braille).

Currently, most reading is either of the printed word from ink or toner on paper such as in a book, magazine, newspaper, leaflet or notebook or of electronic displays such as computer displays, television, mobile phones or e-readers. Handwritten text may also be produced using a graphite pencil or pen.

Group l e ar n i ng i s the main approach to organize collaborative learning. There are many collaborative learning methods which also can be considered as group learning methods and popularly used in a classroom-based environment.

A common approach must be found which can be used to stimulate a small learning group based on different collaborative learning methods. On the other hand, the optimal solution is to model

any small group learning method.

Some experiences can be applied to the small common group learning process. Collaborative learning is often used as synonym for cooperative learning when in fact, it is a separate strategy that encompasses a broader range of group interactions such as developing learning communities, simulating students and faculty discussions and encouraging electronic exchanges.

explaining what a really good rest is. Now that we are facing tremendous and complicated challenges in practically every aspect of our life, we really need to inculcate in everyone the true kind of rest.

Yes, to this end, there will be considerations about the virtues of order, sense of priority, prudence, and the practices of prayer, meditation and contemplation, as well as self-denial and a healthy spirit of mortification.

We have to find ways of how to relate the different kinds and forms of resting to the real rest that has Christ at the root, center and end. It’s a pity that we seem to have developed very sophisticated forms of physical, mental, emotional rest, etc., but fail to connect them to the real source and objective of rest.

Let’s hope that some people would dedicate time and energy in developing programs that would attend to these problems and deficiencies insofar as the really good rest is concerned.

Selling it at P8 per kilo, Batingolo earned P18,000 for his first harvest. He spent P5,000 for labor and fertilizer, earning a profit of P13,000.

While waiting for the harvest, Batingolo cultivates another parcel of land to grow vegetables, which he is going to sell at Saguiaran market.

Batingolo expects to harvest in February his corn planted in another one-hectare lot.

All revenue district offices (RDO) in the region registered positive performance led by Gingoog RDO and Iligan RDO with collection growth rates of 41 percent and 38 percent, respectively.

Still, Cagayan de Oro RDO remains the top collecting district which posted Php1.457 billion or 54 percent of the total receipts followed by Bukidnon RDO with Php480.20 million or 18 percent share. On the other hand, Iligan RDO posted Php407.32 million (15%), Ozamiz RDO with Php245.75 million (9%), and Gingoog RDO with Php127.07 million (4%).
