President Macaayong denounces baseless reports tagging MSU-IIT and MSU-GENSAN inclusion in the list of hotbeds campus on radicalism BY ASANGAN T. MADALE

MARAWI CITY- Dr. Habib Watamama Macaayong President of the Mindanao State University System yesterday denounces the baseless and erroneous reports the inclusion of Mindanao State-Iligan Institute of Technology and General Santos in the list of breeding grounds of Campus or Hotbeds of Campus Radicalism. In a document obtained by the Manila Times, Macaayong disclosed in the strongest terms, the MSU System leadership denounces as ulterly baseless and fraglantly unfair the inclusion of the Mindanao State University in the list of universities tagged as breeding ground or hotbeds of radicalism. Although only two of its autonomous -MSU Iligan Institute of Technology and MSU-Gensan-are mentioned in the list, we operate as an system , thus the smear or

blot on the integrity or reputation of any part reflects on or implicates the whole. The primal mission of the Mindanao State University as a policy or instrument of the national government and its goals and aspirations and more important, its being a national peace university to which all forms of extremism and violence are anathema, infuses every faculty and student with this sense of purpose as a positive force for meaningful change as a peace advocate or champion. Macaayong emphasize that this mission has been reinforce by the peace program built into all curricula with their emphasis on inclusiveness appreciation for diversity, and great respect for reasoned dissent. IT’S difficult to open the economy if we’re not able to open our schools to begin with. Education is essential, it can never be not essential. Teachers must be among the essential workers that will be part of the prioritization in getting the vaccine against COVID-19. Currently, teachers are not part of the top five priority groups which include health workers, senior citizens, poor Filipinos and uniformed personnel. Teachers, as well as

children, are still part of the target groups alongside social workers, other government workers, essential workers in food, transport, tourism and agriculture, persons with disabilities, Filipinos in high-density areas, overseas workers and the remaining workforce. Teachers must be on top of the list so we can have normalcy in the education sector. UNICEF earlier called on for teachers to be prioritized to receive the COVID-19 vac-

cine once frontline health personnel and high-risk populations are vaccinated. This will help protect teachers from the virus, allow them to teach in person and ultimately keep schools open. Due to the pandemic, schools across the globe have to shut down and shift to remote learning. Here in the Philippines, the Department of Education (DepEd) has implemented distance learning.

The Mindanao State University was not only a witness to this unprecendented horrendous atrocity ,it was an identified target of attack and escaped, by a miracle , the same fate that betel the city. It is thus imaginable for the institution to allow any radicalization taking place in its hallowed halls, or for radicalism to take root and grow on its soil. Our students are encouraged to freely and fearlessly pursue knowledge and truth, We nurture their aspirations for change or transformation of society to bring the world closer to their heart desire , but always by constructive lawful and peaceful means. Radicals and purveyors of violent extremism have no place in the Mindanao State University.

BEFORE the onset of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), we prefix what we say with "the 21st century." We used to say or write "21st century teraching, 21st century learning, 21st century knowledge and skills," defining these as the 21st century competencies -- critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. However, with the coronavirus pandemic, we have a new catchword -- the new normal. The Oxford Dictionary defines catchword as "a briefly popular or fashionable word or phrase used to encapsulate a particular concept." So, what

is the concept embracing the new normal? The American Dictionary defines new normal as "a previously unfamiliar or atypical situation that has become standard, usual, or expected." What was previously unfamiliar that has this time become standard, usual, or expected? What has become 'normal'? The lockdowns, quarantines, masks, washing hands, taking vitamins and nutrient-rich food to nurture health, covering a coughing mouth and sneezing nose, physical distancing, and the omnipresent support tech-

nology are a "must" to continue for a lifetime. These and more compose the new normal. Before Covid-19, Industry 4 (the robot age) of Agenda 2030, robotics was already a popular focus, much more at this time where robots execute routine jobs. Nowadays, robots serve in healthcare, social work, business and trade, food and in other aspects of human activity. Various organizations/ companies are resorting to virtual private networks and voice-over protocols, especially that meetings, negotiations, consultations are mostly virtual.

Timbang,PhD, West1 PSDS Amelita M. Laforteza, EdD, Human Resource Head, Shiela C. Bastida, Records Head, Hasmin R. Maloloy-on and Teleradyo Representative Daisy Mae Santiago. When asked on the challenges they faced in the new normal and what they have done?, Most of them replied that at the start of the class, they had fears on how to deliver the lesson considering the educational background of her parents. According to them, aside being mentored on the necessary preparations for the class opening which the school head provided during LAC sessions conducted, they made constant communications with the parents and made home visitation. The Grade1 teachers highlighted their apprehension on the reading capabilities of their learners but they utilized localized recorded videos to supplement the identification of sounds and reading process. While Grade 2 and 3 teachers maximize the services of Learner Partners as support system of the parents in the module distribution and retrieval, Ustadz Khalid used Google engine to help in Quran verses pronunciation and reading. The ALS representative echoed the learners’ request for pasa load which she resolved through home visitation. For success stories among

the teachers interviewed, most of them shared their happiness when the parents of their learners narrated their joy that their children were able to follow the instructions on how to answer the questions found in the module. They felt glad knowing that all their learners continue their studies despite difficulties encountered by their families in this times of crisis. Majority of them exclaimed that they appreciated the strong collaboration among co-teachers and their parents/guardians as support system for the learners. In this Kumustahan, ASDS Usman emphasized the mental model that there is no face to face interaction with learners and teachers needs to adapt the situation. On issues pertaining to parent’s incapacity due to educational background , she answered not to allow parents answer nor write on the module instead they simply nee to tap learner partners. On reading capabilities issue among the learners, she exclaimed that “I disagree on expert reading, I appreciate a committed reading teacher”. The ASDS encouraged collaboration among teachers to have unified instruction and team goals. Significantly, she earmarked on the 5P’s -Problem-solver; Patient, Pray, Positivity and Possibility. Dr. Usman underscored, ”Don’t give up on learners”. On top of this, Gantimpala Agad Award was received by Grade1 Teacher, Tessie C. Alarcon. This award is given outright to employees commended by clients for their clients, promptness, efficiency and dedication to duty.

It was written 50 years ago. This book was very controversial because it was against the normal people’s idea about education. Ivan Illich didn’t

like formal education. He didn’t like children or students to stay at schools or campuses. He rejected curriculums and formal schools. Surprisingly, behind this controversial idea, this book provided us—50 years ago— with the future education. It has occurred today. It has been the fact nowadays. Why did I try to find this controversial book again? Why did I want to read it again? It is due to my curiosity after reading the opinion article by Joshua Kim in Inside Higher Education, September 14, 2020. Have you noticed that there is hardly any article, no column, no television program, or no radio show without mentioning the pandemic and the virus. I am telling you “Beat the blues”. Yes, by making music! If you’re not playing an instrument, you’ll surely find ways to listen to music. Music - from the Greek “mousikos” and pertaining to one of the nine muses in the Greek mythology - is the art of combining sounds or sequences of notes into

harmonious patterns hopefully playing to ears and satisfying our emotions. An insipid and dry explanation - I must confess. Can you, my dear reader, imagine a life without music? For me, it would be such a monotonous and boring world. I don’t think only about the musical “mayfly” or the so-called “musical nine days wonder”. Music doesn’t consist of Groove or Techno alone. Adapting to the new normal is easy being said than done. Education is no excuse and since no one see this pandemic coming, everyone was put under pressure especially sectors of the government under education. A solution must be made in order to prevent lag education. Other countries have address this concerned by facilitating an online class which enables students to connect with their teacher and classmates virtually with the use of internet connection. Nonetheless, this is not applicable here in the Philippines since not everyone has access to internet connection, in lieu, a modular distance learning was implemented to continue the learning of the students amidst pandemic. Modular distance learning is accessible to everyone. The teachers will be the one providing the modules to be distributed to the students. Some are giving their modules every Monday of the week and some are having it every first Monday of the month. Modules are comprised of subject topics along with questionnaires to test if the student was able to comprehend the topic. There are also activities with detailed instruction to be performed by the students at home. On the day of submitting the modules, another set of

modules are given back to the parents for another topic. This is how the modular distance learning works. With the absence of teacher in the daily activity of the learners, parents are leave to do the job in guiding their kids while answering their modules. Unfortunately, not all of the parents are willing to leave their work to assist on their children. Some parents who can barely manage to set three meals on the table in a day prefer to spend their time on working to feed their family rather than sitting down alongside with their kids to feed their minds. Students are forcefully taught to learn independently, trying to interpret each topic of the modules. Some of the students are not passionate enough in learning on their own, most often they ended giving up on their modules and worst answering the activities just to comply. Contrastingly, the learners are still on the move of improving themselves in learning while staying at the comfort of their home. With the modular distance learning, everyone is qualified to participate and carry on with their studies. With more time to adjust and adapt to this new normal, we will sure to have a competitive and independent type of learners in the near future.

The Department of Education (DepEd) faces problems in the delivery of quality education. Few public schools have access to strong wifi connection that can be used in online classes. In the interview of Kritz to DepEd’s ICT Service Director Aida Yuvienco, she said that “Only 26 percent of public schools are connected to the internet”, and she added that nearly 5,000 public schools in remote areas do not even have access to electricity. One point of discussion within our recent school heads’ meeting was empowerment, delegation and other analogous terms. We discussed related countless examples and yet doubted on what to do and what not to do.! Horray! Stories aside, I came up with this idea….and assured on what really I have to do. EMPOWERING TEACHERS THROUGH EFFECTIVE DELEGATION Delegation empowers teachers by enabling them to demonstrate their capability to take a new work. When individuals step outside of their typical day-to-day activities and have the chance to take on new tasks or get involved in a decision-making, they become more sensitive in the outcome of their delegated responsibilities. Delegation helps them recognize their importance to the school which fosters a deeper sense of commitment and engagement. School leaders can build a sense of empowerment among teachers by delegating in areas such as: Project Management, New System or Program Implementation, Linkaging to other stakeholders in the wider community, Resource Generation,

teamwork and effective communication. Moreover, delegation supports new skill development for teachers. It gets newer leaders into a rhythm of accepting responsibility of outcomes without feeling that they must take on every single task themselves and by and by, they will also do to others what has done to them. However, school leaders carefully consider what o delegate and to whom and understand how delegation makes their school more performer. He/She should also learn the ways of delegating effectively. When they delegate effectively, they are building competency in setting expectations, providing feedback and ensuring accountability in others. For the teachers who have responsibilities delegated to them, they have opportunities to learn a new process or interact with colleagues they might deal with normally. These new experiences help them build skills to manage others, they are now the new leader produced by an effective leader. Finally, effective school leaders teach potential teachers how to leverage delegation, improved productivity, empowered another teachers and build skills.

The concept of being healthy is usually limited to one’s physicality. If you have strong bones, regular bowel movement, and clear eyesight among other factors that make one fit, then you are considered a healthy person. We tend to overlook the fact that a totally fit person must be healthy psychologically as well. Admit it or not, previous generations did not place importance on the mental health of children. In fact, mental health is associated with psychiatric disorders. Kids before would suppress their overwhelming emotions to themselves, afraid of the moment their feelings will be invalidated. Many children were traumatized emotionally because of these circumstances. As they grow older, they don’t know how to release these emotions properly, resulting to a toll in their mental health and eventually breaking them apart. Various studies have been conducted on this matter; thus, the emphasis on mental health. In the recent years, advocates for mental health have been on the rise. Awareness campaigns have been pushed more than ever with the worsening condition of the world today that depresses each one of us even in the slightest detail.

Depression, anxiety, and panic attacks are among the common mental conditions suffered by people from all walks of life. It doesn’t choose its victims and once you are attacked, you must fight hard to survive. In 2018, Rappler reported that the number of suicide cases and students with mental illnesses has risen drastically over the last two years according to experts. Particularly now, in the time of pandemic, the numbers doubled. The fear on COVID, the uncertain employment status, and the skeptical ‘priorities’ of the administration in combatting this deadly virus are among the reasons that make our mental health unstable. On a personal note, the uncertainties of our future keep us insane. We are unsure whether we can still eat, sleep, study, or work tomorrow. One moment we’re fine, the next one, we’re not. Now that we have no idea when the virus will seep into our core, anxiety is also our enemy. We can’t just tell ourselves not to worry because it can’t be helped. The solitude of quarantines and lockdowns makes it worse. Everything around us can be a factor to make us not okay and that’s okay. Your emotions

are valid. In these times of uncertainty, there will be times that you will break down but don’t let it break you apart. Ask yourself if you are still fine. Assess your mental state if you can still go on for a day or two. If you think you can no longer endure your worsening mental health, it’s okay to seek for help. It can be from the One above or the mental health experts you trust. Once you get the help you need, do not rush yourself to heal on the spot. You take your time to heal from the scars of your past and the wounds of your present. Do not be afraid to tell the world that you can’t because surely there are people out there willing to console and save you in your darkest times. If you can, protect your mental health. Stay away from people and things that disrupt your peace. Unfriend virtual friends on Facebook if possible. You don’t owe them an explanation. It’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to feel those emotions, we are just humans after all, fragile and vulnerable. And when you are ready to face the world once more, everything will be okay because you are already braver and stronger.

The onset of Covid-19 worldwide demands a shift in academic approach to address the needs of the new normal. In entering school year 2020-2021, the shift of learning modality from face to face to modular distance learning as the mode of learning delivery for this academic year posed a new challenges to teachers, learners and parents/guardians. Herein lies the problem of transitioning from face to face to distance learning modality. The diagnostic test showed poor results. Pupils had little understanding of questions since there is no teacher guidance which they were used to from previous years. They had not realized that what they had learned from previous grades is actually related to what they

are learning now, that only the delivery mode is changed. Pupils exhibited difficulty in class evaluations both in oral and written. Parent teacher needed to explain the questions for their children to understand what needs to be done. The department has tried and done researches and innovations aiming to improve academic performance of the learners through outlining, evaluating and resourcing of the learners need as foundation for educational progress in the pandemic situation to assist them in transitioning from face to face to modular distance modality Furthermore, Teacher working collaboratively using a variety of teaching strategies have help pupils make significant progress in their academic

performance however, most pupils liked the activities that use concrete materials as teaching aids. They liked to learn because they were able to see and do hands-on activity in their lessons. Most pupils reported that those activities were fun. Conversely, several pupils did not like doing those activities, and claimed that the lessons’ activities were boring. These pupils were generally in the lower ability groups. It is noted that some learners who lacked intrinsic motivation did not progress as rapidly as other learners. One of the factors that interfere with learning is behavior and time on task. This demonstrates how effective planning can make a difference in achievement and pupil attitude. Sacal as one of the heirs of Juliana Sacal, was erroneously mentioned as Cresencia B. Sacal. VIII That the Free Patent application of the Heirs of Juliana Barsobia Sacal, represented by Felicisimo B. Zacal, was approved on February 27, 1976 ( Annex A-3 , order if approval ) and the corresponding patent was issued by and under the authority of he President of the Philippines and Original Certificate of Title No. P-2504, in the name if Juliana Barsobia Sacal , represented by Felicisimo Zacal, was entered by the Register of Deeds, for the province of Camiguin on April 05, 1982. Plaintiffs , through counsel to this Honorable Court most respectfully allege: I That plaintiffs, Antonio Sacal Galon, of legal age, Filipino, married with residence and post address at Poblacion, Sagay, Camiguin, and Manuel Sacal Galon, of legal age, Filipino , married with residence and post office address at Maloko, Manolo, Fortich , Bukidnon , Philippines, are brothers, being the children of the late Crisanta Barsobia Sacal and Guillermo Galon. They represent all their other siblings who could not come to court to file the present action. II That Efren Awitin Galon, of legal age, Filipino, married, with residence and post office address at Poblacion , Sagay, Camiguin, is the grandson of Crisanta Barsobia Sacal and Guillermo Galon, being the offspring of Alfredo Sacal Galon, now deceased , son of Crisanta B. Sacal and Guillermo Galon. III That plaintiff Elizabeth Sacupayo Sacal, is of legal age, Filipino, single, with residence and post address at Lanang, Davao City, is the daughter of Beinvinido B. Sacal, son of Juliana B. Sacal and Feliciano Sacal, she represents all her siblings , offsprings of Bienvinido B. Sacal. IV That Manuel Yano Sacal, of legal age, Filipino, married, with residence and post address at Bonbon, Sagay, Camiguin, is the son of Anatolio Sacal , son of Feliciano Sacal and Juliana Barsobia Sacal, he represent all his siblings, the offspring of his father, Anatolio Sacal; while Angel Sacal Cabactulan, of legal age, single, Filipino,resident of Kilon-ac, Bonbon, Sagay, Camiguin, is the only surviving heir of Maria Sacal Cabactulan, daughter of Feliciano Sacal and Juliana Sacal Barsobia. V That defendants, Arcanghel Zacal, Margarito Zacal, Flora Zacal Manzano, Beverly Zacal Yamba, Lydia Zacal Yamba, are all of legal ages, Filipinos, married and residents of Poblacion, Sagay, Camiguin, are the heirs of Felicisimo Sacal; Heirs of Maria Zacal namely: Gemma Zacal Uayan, a resident of Mercy Village, Mambajao, Camiguin, Julito Zacal Uayan, Heracleo Zacal Uayan, Dyesebel Sacal Uayan, Carmelita Zacal Uayan all residents of Manuyog , Sagay, Camiguin, Ricardo Zacal Uayan, a resident of Manila and Marlit Uayan Maniligod, a resident of Buluarte, Tagoloan, Mis. Oriental, are all of legal ages, married , Filipinos; Heir of Gloria Sacal Cajis, namely: Marites Zacal Cajis, of legal age, married, Filipino, a resident of Tongao, Butuan City; Annabel Zacal Dolor, of legal age, married , Filipino, a resident of Montalban, Rizal, Philippines ; Warlita Zacal Jadman, of legal age, married Filipino , with residence and post office address at Maac, Guinsiliban, Camiguin, and Heirs of Fe Zacal namely: Fetmarie Zacal, of legal age, married, Filipino and Jopeth Zacal, of legal age, single, Filipino , both residents at Manuyog, Sagay, Camiguin. VI Both plaintiffs and defendants trace their descent from the spouses Feliciano Sacal and Juliana Barsobia, who during their lifetime were residents of Poblacion , Sagay, Camiguin. X That as a of Entry No. 1285, OCT P-2504 , in the name of Heirs of Juliana Sacal, was cancelled by the Register of Deeds , and TCT No. P-222, in the name of Felicisimo Sacal only, was entered on the 24th day of May, 1982 at 11: 56 a.m. by the Registry of Deeds of Camiguin, Aniano S. Paderanga, Annex D, certified true copy of TCT P-222, hereof consisting of four (4) pages, Annex D-1, D-2, D-3, which are made integral parts hereof. XI That as appearing on theface of annex B-2 ( Entry No. 1285, of OCT 2504 ), the Affidavit of Fact of Oral Partition executed by Felicisimo Zacal and Maria Sacal, all surnamed Sacal, was never entered in the notarial register if Atty. Vito M. Carrillo, there being no document number, no page number entry, book number entry, indicate thereon and could not considered a public document, hence, not registrable. XII Likewise it appears from the Affidavit of Fact of Oral Partition ( Exh C hereof ) itself was never signed by Alfredo Sacal, contrary to what the Entry No. 1285 of OCT 2504 stated, that Affidavit of Fact of Oral Partition was executed by Felicisimo Zacal, Maria Zacal and Alfredo Sacal. XIII That the Affidavit of Fact of Oral Partition (Annex C) contains so many fraudulent representations of fact, made with knowledge of its falsehood by Felicisimo Zacal and Maria Sacal, such as for example the following; a. That there was in fact no oral partition of all the real properties left by Feliciano Sacal and Juliana Barsobia SAcal, more particularly a parcel of land located at Bonbon, Sagay, Camiguin, now identified as lot 2027. b. That Feliciano Sacal and Juliana Barsobia Sacal, had Five (5) heirs, not only three (3), as mentioned in the Affidavit of Fact of Oral Partition. The heirs are: 1. Felicisimo Sacal 2. Crisanta Sacal 3. Maria Sacal 4. Anatolio Sacal 5. Bienvenido Sacal Who are even mentioned by Felicisimo Zacal in his application for Free Patent for and in representation of the heirs of Juliana B. SAcal (Annex A thereof) filed by him on November 06, 1973. XIV The statement in the Affidavit of Fact of Oral Partition , that Alfredo Sacal Galon, is the only son and child of Crisanta Galon, is a fraudulent representation of fact. Afredo Sacal Galon, is the son of Crisanta Sacal, daughter of Juliana B. Sacal and Feliciano Sacal. And had several brothers and sisters, namely; Manuel Sacal Galon, Antonio Sacal Galon, Anatolio Sacal Galon. This fraudulent representation of fact was made by Felicisimo Zaca, and intended to deprive the plaintiffs; Antonio Sacal, manuel Sacal Galon, and their siblings of the lawful share of the inheritance of Crisanta Sacal, as well as deprive the other co-heirs of Juliana Sacal, represented by plafintiffs; Efren Sacal, Elizabeth SAcal, Manuel Sacal, Manuel Yano Sacal and Alfredo S. Cabactulan of the hereditary rights over Lot 2027. XV That there was in fact no oral agreement among the heirs of Juliana B. Sacal, to partitions her estate in 1970, after her death on March 11, 1969 ( Annex E) , certified machine copy of certificate of death of Juliana B. Sacal , by the Local Civil Registrar of Sagay, Camiguin, hereto attached and made integral part thereof. XVI That the alleged oral partition of the estate of Juliana B. Sacal, among the three (3) heirs and signed only by Felicisimo Zacal and Maria Sacal, cannot be the legal basis of an Affidavit of Fact of Oral partition agreed among the heirs of Juliana B. Sacal did not have only three (3) heirs, aside from the fact that the Affidavit of Fact of Oral Partition , is not a public document, and consequently not registrable, and not signed by Alfredo Sacal Galon. XVII That the Free Patent Application was filed on November 06, 1973, in which names of the heirs of Juliana B. Sacal , Alfredo Sacal, was not mentioned among them but particularly the heirs of Crisanta Sacal Galon, was erroneously mentioned as heirs of Cresencian Sacal. XVIII Another fraudulent representation of fact in the Affidavit of Fact of Oral Partition, Annex C , is the statement; “That the land was partitioned in this wise: One half (½) was shared to Felicisimo Zacal , and the other half (1/2) was

shared equally between Maria Sacal and Alfredo Sacal and the last two(2) named sold their respective shares in 1070 to Felicisimo Sacal”. the truth of the matter is that there was no sale of the share of Maria Sacal and Alfredo Sacal Galon. As shown in the attach ancient (more that 30 years) private document (Exh. F dated March 23, 1982 ) executed by the spouses Felicisimo Zacal and Guadalupe Ebcas, which they acknowledged the fact, that Maria Sacal Cabactulan and Alfredo Sacal Galon, signed a document purporting to sell their shares in a residential lot under TD No. 4857, located at Bonbon, Sagay, Camiguin,to Felicisimo Zacal was fictitious and simulated, merely for the pupose of accommodating the spouses Felicisimo Zacal and Guadalupe Ebcas , requests so that the whole of lot 2027 would be transferred to his name, to enable Felicisimo Sacal, to secure a loan with the bank, without any intent on their part to sell their share. XIX That this ancient document has been in the custody of Antonio Sacal Galon, after it was given to him by the widow of Alfredo Sacal Galon, after his death. XX That because of the execution by Felicisimo Sacal, of the Affidavit of Fact of Oral Partition and its registration in the Memorandum of Encumbrances in OCT No. 2504, Felicisimo Sacal was able to procure a TCT P-222 in his name only by means of both actual and constructive fraud . ( Exh. D, D-1, D-2, D-3 ) , for lot No. 2027, now declared under TD No. 05000101617, in the name of Felicisimo Zacal, with an assessed value of P 97,380.00 ( Annex G) hereto attached and made integral part hereof. XXI That TCT P-222 is null and void under the provisions of Sec. 55, of Land Registration Act (LRA) 496, now Sec. 53 of PD No. 1529. XXII That plaintiffs , particularly Antonio Sacal Galon, Manuel Sacal Galon, Manuel Yano Sacal, knew of the fraud committed by Felicisimo Sacal when both plaintiffs and defendants were summoned before the Lupon Tagapamayapa on July 20, 2018, upon plaintiffs complaint against some of the defendants ; Arcanghel Zacal, Expidito Zacal, Margarito Zacal, Flora Zacal Manzano, for harassment and stoning their house and shouting at them to leave the land, during which conference It was revealed that defendant Arcanghel Zacal, and co-defendants wanted them to leave the land, because it is no longer theirs. XXIII That on September 17, 2018, plaintiffs for the first time secured an electronic true copy of TCT P-222, then and only then plaintiffs knew of the deception, which confirmed the fraud and wilful misrepresentation committed by Felicisimo Zacal , on them in securing TCT P-222 all alone for himself. XXIV That defendants, particularly Arcanghel Zacal. Committed constructive and/or actual fraud in depriving plaintiffs of their rightful share of Juliana B. SAcal and Feliciano Sacal of Lot 2027, having actual and constructive knowledge of the fraud done by his father, did not prevent it, but instead became the beneficiary of the fraud against the interest of plaintiffs, who are his first cousins. XXV That as a result and natural consequence of the fraudulent misrepresentation of facts committed by Felicisimo Zacal, father of defendants, plaintiffs were deprived of their hereditary rights or share in Lot 2027, which is now registered only the name of Felicisimo Zacal. XXVI That plaintiffs have been constrained to hire a lawyer to protect and defend their rights and interest at he cost of One Hundred Fifty Thousand Pesos (P150,000.00) for atty’s fees; Fifty Thousand Pesos (P 50,000.00) as expenses of litigation, including court filing fees. XXVII That because of the fraudulent acts of Felicisimo Zacal , in combination with those of defendants, plaintiffs suffered moral damages at being shocked , angry, frustrated and restless upon knowing that they have lost to Felicisimo Zacal, their hereditary rights by his fraudulent acts. Adding insult to injury, defendants acts of harassment, committed already several times against plaintiffs to compel them to leave the land, contributed to strike and inflict fear and danger in the mind of plaintiffs that defendants would not hesitate to use force upon their persons, should they refuse tom leave which damage maybe fairly awarded to plaintiffs, in the amount of One Hundred Thousand Pesos ( P 100,000.00) PRAYER WHEREFORE, it is most respectfully prayed of this Honorable Court , after due hearing and trial on the merits, that judgement be rendered as follows: 1. Ordering the outright cancellation and/or annulment of TCT P-222, In the name of Felicisimo ZAcal coveringCad Lot No. 2027, located at Poblacion, Sagay, Camiguin and the issuance of a certificate of title in the name of the Heirs of Juliana B. Sacal, represented by Antonio Sacal Galon, Sacal et,al. 2. Ordering defendants to stop harassing plaintiffs during the pendency of this action. 3. Ordering defendants to pay plaintiffs jointly and solidarity ,the following amounts: 1. One Hundred Fifty Thousand Pesos (P150,000.00 ) as and for attorney’s fees 2. Fifty Thousand Pesos ( P50,000.00) as and for expenses of litigations. 3. One Hundred Thousand Pesos (P100,000.00) as and for moral damages 4. Fifty Thousand Pesos (P50,000.00) as and for exemplary damages. 5. Fifty Thousand Pesos (P50,000.00) as and for nominal damages. What It Takes to be a Frontliner CATALINA BONDOC-KIONISALA T-III

Before, when we hear the word ‘frontliner’ what comes to our mind is literally people in the front line. It is associated with soldiers on war zones, gorgeous baton twirlers leading the drum and lyre corps, and the likes. Frontliner is a word not typically used before. But when the global pandemic hit, it also become a hit word. Frontliners are supposed to work literally on the front line, leading the way. But where is the front line in this pandemic-struck world? Well, the front line is anywhere; thus, our frontliners are not limited to battlegrounds or stages only. Frontliners today are the ones doing public service despite of the virus lurking around. They are our public health workers, government employees, delivery services personnel, and fast food crew among others. Nowadays, I bet no one would want to be a frontliner if they had a choice. Who would like to risk their lives servicing others, right? But there are people who have no choice but to lead the way in order for the people behind to survive. Then, what does it take to be a frontliner? If the world’s a stage, then the ones at the forefront are those who dance gracefully, with pretty faces, or amazing vocals. But our world today is not like that. Not anymore. To be a frontliner is to have a strong mind,

a brave heart, a burning passion, and an undying commitment to serve others. Physical characteristic is not a criterion in this kind of mission. It is your attitude and fighting spirit that will be tested. Though many frontliners don’t meet the criteria aforementioned, it’s fine. Maybe they have no choice but to become one because life did not give lots of choices to choose from and sometimes they can’t even choose. The fact that they still did it anyway despite lacking the attributes is already a feat worth recognizing for. No one knows the exact location of the virus. Hence, our frontliners should be ready anytime of what’s waiting ahead of them. A million shout-out is not enough to thank them of their hard work. Our frontliners deserve the credit they are due for and that is proper compensation (salary and hazard pay) for their sacrifices. To say that a frontliner’s work is hard is an understatement. If I were to describe, it would surpass the superlative form of difficult because of how tiring, demanding, underappreciated, and risky it is. If you are a frontliner, I salute you! Tap your back for a job well done. To be a frontliner is not easy but you live on. Keep on surviving and servicing others.

EDUCATIONAL technology has dramatically involved for the past two decades or so. In the early 1990s, high school systems here, both public and private, mainly depend on green chalkboards, books and libraries to teach their students. The school usually requires students to set aside a notebook for each subject. And then there were two very different books in each subject – one textbook and one workbook. Thus the student has to endure bringing all these books and notebooks to class each day. Nowadays, even the public school system has adapted digital technology. Gone were the days when a student strains his back because of bringing so many books and notebooks in school. Nowadays, there are

teachers in private schools who already require their students to check their emails for homework and various assignments or group project tasks. They may also pass their requirements via a common Facebook page. And if teachers need to take more time to prepare a homework, they would simply send their students cellphone text messages to check out their assignments. Some private schools even provide airconditioned rooms to students complete with one desktop computer with flatscreen monitors each. Or if that is not feasible, then they allow students to bring their laptops or computer tablets in the room so they can write down their lesson notes there, thus unburdening the students from carrying heavy load around.

This article made me curious to find the book by Ivan Illich, Deschooling Society. So, after reading the book by Ivan Illich again, actually there has been ignorance toward the idea he proposed 50 years ago. The title is controversial but not all of his ideas are wrong. The access to available resources has come true today. He stated educational system should provide all who want to learn with access to available resources at any time in their lives. And, now it is true. Everyone can get access what they want to know. We can just click in Google by writing what we want to know. Everything is available. Second, educational system should empower all who want to share what they know to find who want to learn from them. Now everyone around the world can share their knowledge and skills. More interestingly, mostly are free: conferences, trainings, workshops, and other webinars. Others are with the charges, depending on the materials given during the conferences or workshops. The third, educational system should furnish who want to present an issue to publics with opportunity to make their challenge known. We have eye witnessed it. Even though we may find some hoax issues, it is part of the challenge to find and know. All these three have occurred and the online system today is the real fact. But, we are not surely ready. We do it now due to the Covid 19 without prior planning or preparation. The Beatles - and Rolling Stones later - era followed - much to the disappointment of my parents and grandparents, who still dreamt of their music, such as Jazz and Swing back to the Golden Twenties. Ever ybody has his or her own music philosophy. I learned from my dentist friend in Los Angeles, that her patients lose their state of anxiety by listening to soft background music while having their teeth attended to. A gynecologist explained that if a pregnant woman mostly listens to classical music, her child might hear, learn, find out and experience another (better?) development then other children. The church reformator Martin Luther (1483-1546) explained it in this way: “Many times, when I was in terrible darkness, I prayed - and I listened to music, which delivered and refreshed me!” The German poet and composer E. Hoffmann said in 1801, “If you start simply being speechless, music will take over!” And Ludwig van Beethoven (17701827), without doubt one of the true and just awesome Western composers voiced out, “Music is utmost revelation then wisdom and philosophy!” “I feel like flying after entering a church, praying and listening to the music of heaven!” the German poet Friedrich Schiller (1759-1809) philosophized about music in his drama “Maria Stuart”. A simple melody can make us feel happy, sentimental, smiling or crying, aggressive or relaxed. A form of light entertainment in which songs, dialogue, dance, and humour are combined with a not too serious plot is as much as important then a dramatic opera or the single musician or street singer, not being a man of culture, but entertaining us people.
