Davao to unveil new tourist police office in March

HE local government here has received additional 141 isolation beds for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases from different private and public hospitals in this city.

Dr. Ted Yu Jr., medical officer of the city health office (CHO), said in an online briefer Tuesday the additional beds were from various private hospitals, including the JR Borja General Hospital, a public hospital managed by the city government.

This is in response to their recent meeting to fight the increasing number of admitted positive cases in the city.

Yu said this brought the total of Covid-19 beds in the city to 661 from 520 beds previously and the primary reason why the total bed utilization rate went down to 62.17 percent.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno commended the huge help and effort of the different hospitals and un-

derscored the importance of the total bed utilization rate as one of the indicators to be checked by the National Inter-Agency Task (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease for the Covid-19 classification in every area in the country.

“Let’s give a big round of applause to our private and public hospitals, especially the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) for adjusting by providing additional isolation beds.

We are worried if the total bed utilization rate will go to over 70 percent as this will be considered highrisk,” Moreno said.

‘Rido’ eyed as motive in slay of Lanao Norte HPG chief

ILIGAN CITY - Police investigators are looking into family feud or “rido” as a possible motive for the ambush that killed two, including the chief of the Lanao del Norte - Highway Patrol Group (HPG), and wounded another companion in Sultan Dumalondong, Lanao del Sur. A report from Lanao del Sur police stated that Major Omar Tago, the Lanao del Norte - HPG chief, was on his way to Barangay Pagalungan on Monday to attend the vigil of a family member who died four days before the incident when the suspects fired upon the vehicle of the police official.

In an update Tuesday, Lt. Col. Cristio Lagyop Jr., chief of the Regional Public Information Office of the Police Regional Office in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, confirmed that four assailants on motorcycles carried out the attack.

Tago was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead while being revived.

His companion, identified as Kanor Rascal, died on the spot while another companion, identified as Adam Dirindigun, was wounded and is now being treated in a hospital in Marawi City.

2 killed, 2 captured in Bukidnon clash

IMPASUG-ONG, Bukidnon – Two rebels of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed while two others were captured, as fresh fighting between state forces and communist rebels erupted anew in Bukidnon, the military said Tuesday.

Reconciliation between them had already been diligently employed but all proved futile.

From bigger chalk allowance to ‘Edukasyon Plus’, Lacson finds ways to boost PH education From the so-called “chalk allowance” for teachers to free tuition and a monthly allowance for senior high school students, Partido Reporma chairman and standard bearer Panfilo “Ping” Lacson will keep pushing for ways to improve the quality of Philippine education as the country’s next President.

Lacson is making it a priority of his administration to add more teachers and raise their salaries, and give students more of what they need to raise the quality of education in the country, which he has already been doing as a senator since 2001.

While Lacson always proposes to add funds to education because it is a need, he admits that even if education gets the highest share of the national budget, there will always be a shortage somewhere.

PRESIDENTIAL wannabe Leni Robredo just proved to the world that she is not the kind of leader the Philippines deserves.

In an interview with the country’s “King” of talk show, Boy Abunda, the Vice President emphatically insisted that in times of emergencies she has to be personally on top of the situation to manage and immediately act on every emerging situation that needs prompt action.

In short and by her own language she is a micromanager.

Boy Abunda, who obviously understands what leadership is, tried to get her out of that slip, but she insisted that it has to be she and proceeded to cite examples of moments when she has to work 24 hours a day micromanaging actions on emergencies.

Her take on the leadership qualities of a President underscores her distrust of people and that is a very dangerous precedent because the government does not function that way.

I do not know whether it is true that on day one of the Marawi siege the Vice President was right in the battle arena. I think I missed that one in the many video coverage done

by local and international correspondents.

Leni’s idea of leadership explains why she has to be first on the scene of calamity distributing “lugaw na may itlog” as her propagandists proudly assert. And she wants to show these acts of mercy and courage by bringing a retinue of print and TV crew.

The VP should learn the art of how-not-to-do-it herself. She should learn how to delegate and therefore must learn how to trust.

A President is not a Purok Chairman. He or she is on top of all situations but in every situation, he has someone he can trust to execute plans with all the resources and authority with the least supervision from him.

Dangerous too is her proposition that to solve the conflicts in the West Philippine Sea, she will push for multi-lateral talks inviting community of nations..for what? To bring China to its knees? And she wants the government to invest heavily in armaments. Is she thinking that China will invade the Philippines or even create a pocket war in WPS in the eastern portion of the South China sea? country to stir trouble in WPS when it is their principal trade route. That too is the trade route of other countries doing business with China, the ASEAN nations, and India to name a few. China, which has taken over the US in economic supremacy is now in the league of the superpower.

We are all embodied spirits, more spirit than body having been created in the image and likeness of God. But the collective mindset of humanity seems just to focus on forms rather than on consciousness.

It is sad to note that the present development paradigm indulges so much on unbridled materialism and consumerism which does not only run counter to the essence of our very own spirituality but can be likened to the workings of an auto-immune disease syndrome (AIDS), where no less than the body’s defense mechanisms are attacking vital organs. We decimate our forests, pollute our rivers and bays; we produce food yet contaminate our water table following costly agricultural technologies tied up to the heavy use of toxic chemicals; modern living adopting lifestyle that what makes of a throwaway-society – all done in

the name of development.

As biblically stated, man is made in the image and likeness of God, the Creator. But paradoxically, it is appearing that man has reduced the essence of God to his own image. This is the reason why the world now is facing threats of war in all fronts. The egoic mindset of world leaders follows that high veneration to the ego, i.e., I am right and you are wrong and if you oppose me, there will be war!

That kind of mindset can only be described as ruthless and futureless which has made the impossible now possible, which is the end of life on earth. Biodiversity embracing the billions of life forms has tremendously decreased as these life forms which have evolved on earth for billions of years are now extinct. As the earth warms and the oceans rise, we are now confronted on how to feed, clothe and house the exponentially growing earthlings that will reach the 9.3 billion mark in 2050.

If our way of making a living is killing Mother Earth because it is just all about how to respond to bodily needs, that kind of mindset has totally disregarded man’s spirituality.

In a press release posted on US DOJ’s website on November 18, the superseding indictment issued by the Federal Grand Jury charged Quiboloy and two other defendants – KOJC’s “international administrator” Teresita Tolibas Dandan and Felina Salinas – “with participating in a conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion,

as well as the sex trafficking of children.”

Maximum penalty for sex trafficking conspiracy in the US is life sentence in federal prison.

The vice presidential candidate thanked the pastor for accommodating her request to stage the send-off ceremony of her team and supporters for the national caravan, a campaign which she claims seeks “patriotism or love for our country.”

Globe customers raise P1.9M for Typhoon Odette survivors

LOBE customers have raised P1,925,284 worth of Globe and TM Rewards points to help survivors of Typhoon Odette, sending critical aid to families reeling from the impact of the deadly December storm.

The donations have been turned over to Globe’s partner organizations — the Ayala Foundation, GMA Kapuso

Foundation, and Rise Against Hunger Philippines.

Such support came at a crucial time when typhoon survivors needed life-saving aid, as Odette destroyed over 344,000 houses and damaged more than 1 million others. The destruction displaced over 58,000 families, leaving them straining for basic needs.

A total of 406 people

were killed, while 1,265 were hurt and 65 remain missing.

“The devastation left by Typhoon Odette called for a swift response. We are very grateful to our customers who are with us in this undertaking. The Rewards points that they donated will go a long way in helping step up humanitarian efforts to help as many people as

DBP signs financing pact with key shelter agency

“DBP sees this partnership with SHFC as a good opportunity to better carry-out our shared goal of increasing the country’s shelter production, especially for those who belong in the low-income bracket,” Herbosa said.
