HE humanitarian, development, and advocacy arm of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has launched a P5.8 million appeal to the Caritas confederation around the world for the victims of Typhoon “Vinta.” Fr. Edwin Gariguez, Executive Secretary of NASSA/ Caritas Philippines said that the rapid response appeal would benefit 15,000 individuals from five provinces that were hit by the storm. “Initially, we are launching a 5.8 million pesos appeal for at least 3,000 families (15,000 individuals) severely affected by the devastation of Typhoon Vinta,” he said in a statement. He said that the appeal would cover the provision of food packs, hygiene kits

and capacity building on emergency preparedness and response to the provinces of Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Compostela Valley, and Davao del Norte. After Christmas, the Catholic Church, through Caritas Manila, have already released P1.8 million to the churches in Butuan, Tagum City, Zamboanga Sibugay, Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City, Marawi City, and Dipolog City. Vinta leaves 110 dead ‘5 best’ restaurants in Oro named in 2 Lanao provinces, Zamboanga del Norte CAGAYAN de Oro City--At least 110 persons were killed in the two Lanao provinces and Zamboanga del Norte as severe tropical storm Vinta slammed across in the two across Mindanao Friday, dumping rains that triggered flash floods and landslides. In Lanao del Norte, 56 persons were killed in the towns of Salvador and Tubod, according to the

chiefs of their Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO). Two more were reported killed in Munai town, according to a report posted on the Facebook page of the Lanao del Norte government. THE City Health Office has named five restaurants as “Best Restaurants of Cagayan de Oro City” this year in recognition of their strict adherence to food and sanitation standards. CSWD Officer Teddy Sabuga-a, who represented Mayor Oscar Moreno, and Asst. City Health Officer Dr. Rachel Dilla conferred the awards to Bucket O’ Shrimp, Candy’s Place, Dear Manok, Country Village Hotel Restaurant and Cusina Higala during flag raising at City Hall on December 18, 2017.
