CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Phil. National Police-10 (PNP-10) had deployed more than a thousand law enforcement officers to help government and volunteer rescuers in the search and rescue operations in the region when severe tropical storm made landfall in Mindanao on Friday. PNP-1- spokesperson Supt. Lemuel Gonda said the police officers were assigned in flood-prone areas to help civilians evacuate from their homes in this city and elsewhere in Northern Mindanao. City police director Sr. Supt. Roy Bahian said those deployed in Cagayan de Oro were all accounted for
and sustained only minor wounds during the rescue operation. This after Jollibee Foods Corporation and its contractors in nine branches in the region were found to be engaged in labor-only contracting activities. Covered by a compliance order issued by DOLE Regional Office 4B Director Alvin Villamor were three Jollibee branches in Puerto Princesa City in Palawan, five in Oriental Mindoro and one in Romblon. In the order, JFC and its three contractors were told to regularize 468 employees as the deployed workers are performing activities which are directly related to the main business operation of the food chain. 1 killed as TS Vinta batters Agusan Sur By CHRIS V. PANGANIBAN
SAN FRANCISCO,Agusan del Sur -- Flashfloods brought by Tropical Storm “Vinta” battered through three towns in the southern part of Agusan del Sur killing one person who drowned to death by rampaging floodwaters in Bunawan town on Friday morning. Vinta which took its landfall in Cateel town in Davao Oriental also affected some 5,000 families in Surigao del Sur mostly in the nearby towns of Lingig, Hinatuan,Tagbina and Tago,the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council in Surigao del Sur. The flood victims are seeking refuge at the 14
designated evacuation centers in the four towns of the province. Police in Bunawan town said Jino Agapay Lacaza, 29, died of drowning after he was carried away by the strong currents of floodwaters while gathering woods in a river at the town Poblacion.
