Private First Class Erico Mirasol Jr. and Private Christopher Caña were both wounded during an encounter against the members of the New People’s Army.

I Intended to choose financial literacy in my personal life-long learning plan because it is one of the things that empowers us.

If I am financially stable or competent, I am more

inspired to perform my daily tasks, especially in teaching my students. My mind is free from worries when I am financially stable. Based on experience in my life as a teacher, there were times when I struggled financially, even though a teacher must be flexible in dealing with life

and act as if I have no problem, the problem still exists deep inside and it caused a lot of stress, disturbance and it affected my teaching. My mind was destructed by such stimuli which is the financial problem. Thus, I need to develop and improve it more and learn how to improve

financial management and set priority as to the needs which is the best thing to do. There is a need for the Department of Education to support teachers financially like for example the establishment of coop in canteens where teachers are the investors.

DURING the time of Mayor Tenying Borja, he had a project that required a truck that blew out fogs into the houses of Cagayan de Oro. It was actually a fogging machine that kills mosquitoes that are abundant in our place. When Mayor Borja died, the fogging project died too, and until now it was never revived. It was a very nice project the succeeding city administration did not mind at all. If we could only have that, I think we will be able to protect much better the people against the disease-carrying pests as the mosquitoes.

I am so unhappy to hear that the towns of Balingasag and Lagonglong in Misamis Oriental were severely hit by typhoon last weekend.

Although no one was hurt or injured, scores lost their homes due to strong winds and heavy rains. There is nothing we can do with matters that involve nature except to pray for our safety. I have been saying many times that preparedness is most important to

Please spare something for them to smile. We should embrace the poor. We should promote the spirit of Christmas to dwell in our hearts. They’d say it is better to give than to receive and I really agree.

A nurse and a physical therapist visit me in my place every other day to check on my health and some exercises ever since I was released from the hospital and later from the nursing home. Right now a nurse is with me taking all the necessary matters like blood pressure, sugar level, weight, etc. So far so good and I am really glad about it. She also prepares the pills that I take daily. I wonder if this kind of medical services are available in our country.

They’re always honest, loving, and kind. They’re quick to forgive others who wrong and hurt them. They’re in control of their physical desires for pleasure, so they always have great fun in life without hurting their own bodies or other people. They enjoy real happiness and closeness every day in their marriage and with their kids.

You see, the kind of person we are inside is what gives us our real standard of living, not material things or status! So what kind of character and

daily lifestyle do you have?

What kind of marriage and family do you have? What kind of friends? There are many people who have heaps of money and status, but they have a low standard of living, because of the low level of their own personal character. They’re dishonest, greedy, competitive, and jealous of what other people have. They gossip and use people to get what they want. They don’t have much love and forgiveness in their heart for people who wrong and hurt them. There are heaps of rich people who do not possess real love, peace, and satisfaction in their marriage and family!

DepEd Mis Or: Training is An Investment

The goal of the Department of Education has always been to provide quality basic education for all Filipino learners- and providing quality education requires continues learning and development of its teaching and nonteaching staff. Training and Development is seen as a necessity in organizational development. As the demand for competent and efficient employees becomes higher, training and development programs are more important than ever.

In 2017, the DepEd- Division of Misamis Oriental under the leadership of Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Cherry Mae L. Limbaco, initiated and implemented trainings programs geared towards employee empowerment and organizational growth.

Some of the trainings will be highlighted in this article.

Long before the Teacher Induction Program (TIP) became a policy in August of this year, the TIP has already been conducted in the Division to prepare newly hired teachers for their roles and functions prior to deployment to

their respective stations.

In TIP, newly hired teachers undergo series of lectures and workshops on DepEd’s various mandates in classroom assessment, lesson planning, classroom management and more importantly the K-12 curriculum. Other than that, they are also informed of their employee rights, compensation and benefits.

The teacher’s advice order is then given to the newly hired teacher as soon as he/she completes the TIP. Similarly, the School Head’s Induction Program (SHIP) is the newly appointed School Head’s version of TIP. With the same rationale as TIP, SHIP capacitates new school heads for their roles and responsibilities following the provisions set in Republic Act 9155 or the Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001 highlighting administrative function and instructional leadership.

The Division gives primary importance to its educational leaders being its frontrunners in providing quality education.

Maria Anthonette Velasco-Allones, CESO I, and Asian Institute of Management Professor Ma. Nieves Confessor.

In compliance with the implementation of the Professional Regulation Commission’s (PRC) Continuing Professional Development (CPD), the Division of Misamis Oriental is also the first and only Division accredited as a Local Service Training Provider.

This means that training programs conducted by the Division can be applied to the PRC for corresponding CPD points which will be used by the teachers upon renewal of license.

In any organization, the best resource are people.

HSBC ups PPP Center to launch GDP forecast water projects in 2018 for next year

MANILA -- The PPP Center is eyeing to roll out five to eight water supply projects of local government units (LGUs) next year.

To create a larger market for investors, the center is considering to bundle the projects of LGUs nationwide.

“The biggest sector we have is water and sanitation,” PPP Center Executive Director Ferdinand Pecson said in a press briefing Monday in Quezon City.

“What we are looking into water projects is how we can bundle several municipalities or even towns and cities in one province together to make the project bigger in scope and make them interesting to investors. That is something that we are looking at,” he added.

Pecson said the center plans to coordinate with the LGUs of Bohol, Oriental Mindoro and Cagayan de Oro which are expanding into sanitation.

MANILA - - Banking giant HSBC revised upwards its growth forecast for the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for 2017 and 2018 given the sustained improvement of the domestic economy.

HSBC, in a study, hiked its growth forecast for the domestic economy from 6.5 percent to 6.7 percent for the two-year period.

These latest forecasts are above market consensus, which is 6.6 percent for 2017 and 6.4 percent for 2018, the study showed.

For 2019, the bank forecasts the domestic economy to grow by 6.8 percent.

In the third quarter this year, GDP grew by 6.9 percent, higher than the previous quarter’s 6.7 percent, bringing the growth in the first three quarters this year to 6.7, within the government’s 6.5-7.5 percent target for the year.

“Improving the Skill in Signed Numbers Using Damath Games”

One of the learning competencies in which students does not master well is the lesson on operations of signed numbers, specifically on signed numbers. Even students in the grade 9, 10, 11, 12 and even in college have difficulty in performing the addition and subtraction of signed numbers.

The use of damath games as remediation activity to help those students who have difficulty in operations of signed numbers using the addition and subtraction method.

Students tend to understand concepts when it is actual learning or hands on learning. Students who perform low mathematics subject need to have remedial instruction which is not limited to games like damath. Damath also helps students to further develop and strengthen their math

There is a need to use a game–like remedial activity in order for them not to feel the burden of attending sessions that are not part of their school time.

The integration of this educational game is important to support students’ learning. As long as students like the method or mechanics of the game then there will be no problem in using it as an intervention to improve students’ achievement in math.

Teaching strategies refer to methods used to help students learn the desired course contents and be able to develop achievable goals in the future. Teaching strategies identify the different available learning methods to enable them develop the right strategy to deal with the target group identified.

Assessment of the learning capabilities of the students provides a key pillar in development of a successful teaching strategy (Steve Armstrong, 2013).

It is observed that as the teacher grows old, his/ her teaching strategy and styles also deterred. As I recall, in my elementary years a newly hired teacher of ours where very active in her class and we were able to understand and enthusiastically interested in her lesson because she had that strategy to win our focus and attention. Her instructional materials, convincing well modulated voice, smell, and charm seems our motivation that stimulates us to do well in the class.

Teaching is an endless task. From daybreak to dusk time and sometimes up to midnight teachers are cram up in their study room finding ways on how they deliver the right lesson to their students. Many times they had forgotten their role as parent to their children and wife to their husband. But the role of being a teacher has to go on.

In my long years as a teacher I discovered three ways on how we can make teaching very effective.

First is motherly or fatherly approach, second is motivation and lastly, expectancy. I would not say that those are the best method in teaching but as I said, I found it to be effective.

As to first method which is motherly or fatherly approach, it is the most common way to effective teaching. Teacher should always act as parents to their students to make them feel at home. In this way, student’s anxiety can be overcome and their participation in class activities will be heightened. Students fear to their teachers will

be forgotten.

As to motivation, teachers should always introduce ways to enable students to actively participate in class discussion. One thing I discover to substantiate motivation approach is instilling onto the minds of the students that their intelligence are the same.

The only difference is that some students lack interest in class studies. Teachers should always motivate students to participate in group studies to overcome inferiority complex.

Wrong answers should not be considered treat it as a boost to their desire to enhance their knowledge.

As for expectancy, teachers should not rely much o the grades of the students in their examinations but. Instead, should give emphasis on the students desire to learn. They may not have good grades in their test presumably because of their status.

There are some students who come to school without breakfast and most often without allowance so cannot expect them to be active in the class discussion.

Army pushes community support program in NPA strongholds DAVAO CITY – The Philippine Army is strengthening its Community Support Program (CSP) especially in known New People’s Army (NPA) strongholds after the surrender of NPA members this year.

Some 2,000 members of the NPA and the Underground Mass Organization (UGMO) surrendered to the different line battalions of the 701st Infantry Brigade.

Davao Light welcomes a new batch of pawikan hatchlings on Bonifacio Day

After recently releasing a new set of Pawikan hatchlings, Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. welcomed another batch of pawikan hatchlings during the Bonifacio Day last November 30 at the Cleanergy Park in Punta Dumalag Matina Aplaya, Davao City.

Davao Light Community Relations Manager Fermin Edillon led the releasing of 98 pawikan hatchlings. This is the 9th batch of pawikan hatchlings released for year 2017.

Many guests came to witness the releasing of the pawikan hatchlings. Both adults and kids filled the park with excitement as they bid goodbye to baby pawikans. And as brave as the Father of Katipunan, Andres Bonifacio, the sea turtle hatchlings marched towards the vast ocean as they begin a new journey.

Two more pawikan nests are expected to hatch within the month and in early January 2018.

4-M professionals to benefit from PRC’s online services

The enhanced online services of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) made it possible for more than four million professionals and the public to transact with the regulatory commission anytime and anywhere in the world just by logging on to the PRC website www.prc.gov.ph.

In his report to Secretary Silvestre Bello III, PRC Chairman Teofilo S. Pilando Jr. said the upgraded facility gave the professionals the liberty to remotely or partially complete their PRC transactions or to choose the date of appointment as to when they could process and finish their transactions at PRC. PRC is an attached agency of the Department of Labor and Employment.

“Clients could als o choose other payment options to pay for their fees

(such as through banks, mobile, payment, Bayad Center etc.), other than PRC cashiers,” Pilando said.

The enhanced online services reduced the processing time and procedural steps of PRC’s key frontline transactions. Notably the application for licensure examination was reduced from 6 to 3 steps, and the initial registration from 4 to 2 steps. Additionally, the renewal of professional identification cards was reduced from 5 to 2 steps.

The PRC service centers were also established to provide an additional and convenient venue for the delivery of the PRC services and to comply with the President’s directive to facilitate access by the public to government key frontline services.

I believe that students should learn how to open a bank account, pay taxes, and create a budget—skills that will help them survive and thrive in life after high school.

We know these skills are important, but where do they fit into busy classroom schedules?

Hence,I am delighted to know that the Department of Education has express its desire to institutionalize Financial Literacy in the Basic Education Curriculum.

appointed Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Dina Ocampo as head of the technical working group, which will formulate the policy for the inclusion of financial education, consumer protection and entrepreneurship in elementary and high school subjects. It also aims to teach financial management and investment so students can find employment by the time they graduate.

With the inclusion of financial literacy in the basic education curriculum, it is my fervent hope that the learners will understand more the value of money and learn ways on how money is acquired. Cebu Pacific begins Manila-Siargao route Leading Philippine carrier Cebu Pacific commenced operation of flights between Manila and Siargao on December 17, 2017. Initially on commercial run until March 24, 2018, CEB will fly direct between Manila and Siargao six times weekly (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday).

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- An accident along the national highway here Sunday afternoon claimed the life of a town police chief and injured four others, police said.

Supt. Bernard Tayong, spokesperson for North Cotabato police office, identified the victim as Chief Inspector Raymund Sarmogenes, police director of Antipas municipal police office.

Injured in the mishap that transpired at around 3 p.m. along the section of the highway in Barangay Amas were Joselito Aberde, his

wife Maria Evelyn Aberde 48, children Jennyjoy, 26 and John Rey, 18, all occupants of the other vehicle and residents of Barangay Poblacion 7, Midsayap, North Cotabato.

Tayong said Sarmogenes, who was alone driving a Toyota Avanza, expired at past 5 p.m. while being

treated at the North Cotabato Provincial Hospital.

Initial investigation showed the two vehicles collided head-on that resulted in serious injuries to those on board a Willy’s Jeep driven by Aberde. Aberde’s family was also rushed to the provincial hospital.
