LGUs urged to create ‘Brgy Disiplina Brigade’

Year 2020 have never been easy to us. The whole world including the Philippines have been inflicted with an invisible enemy called “Covid-19”. All people around the globe suffered too much from this pandemic. Hundreds and hundreds of people were declared casualties. Many have attempted to come up with a formula for vaccine and up to this moment, those countries were still trying. Covid-19 is not the only pandemic that we face. We were not just fighting for Covid-19 but we were also beating consecutive storms that hit us. Quinta, Rolly and Siony were among the storms. Heavy rains, storm surge and as high as human height floods were experienced during Siony. A lot of individuals were missing and declared dead. But in spite of these tragedies, Filipino people still manage to be resilient and wear the sweetest smiles to the world. In this time of pandemics, I say pandemics because our country was not just hit by one but many waves. We have stand still and prove to be tough enough to withstand trials and
aches in life. What’s most lovable and commendable about us Filipino people is our virtue of helpfulness. We undeniably give off ourselves to others. We tried and do our best to succor those who are in dire needs. We are individuals who are selfless, and we grow in love because of that. Many have managed to give a little of their time, effort and monetary to help out people. A lot donated face masks, alcohol and the likes to our front liners and even to ordinary people for protection against the virus. A lot of people have helped and give bequests to families who were afflicted by storms. You see, love still vanquish in every Filipino’s heart. All of us is enduring in this time of pandemics, but love is there to patch up and encompass everything. Love have ties us all to hold on with one another. Love have always shown us that there is hope and when love and hope but in, we all can outran all great mountains in life. Indeed love is the key and way to humanity.

LANDBANK, DA partner for P1billion ‘Bayanihan 2’ support for farmers, fishers STATE-run Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) and the Department of Agriculture (DA), through the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC), signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on December 15, 2020, to partner anew in extending financial support to small farmers and fishers affected by the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Borromeo led the virtual MOA signing to implement the expanded SURE Aid and Recovery Project (SURE Aid COVID-19), which will provide an immediate one-time, zero-interest, no collateral loan assistance of P25,000, payable in 10 years, to eligible small farmers and fishers nationwide. Funded under Republic Act No. 11494 otherwise known as the “Bayanihan to Recover as One Act,” the P1-billion SURE Aid COVID-19 aims to finance the emergency and production capital requirements of small farmers and fishers whose livelihood and income are

Trump and the Democrats´ revenge
CHARLOTTE, North Carolina—With only weeks before he leaves office, it´s a no-brainer to say that outgoing US President Donald Trump won´t be getting some love from the mainstream media with whom he had a combative relationship since Day One of his presidency in January 2017. It is even alleged by his supporters, mostly the conservative and right wing groups that there is a massive conspiracy between mainstream media which they claim to have a growing number of leftwing, even radical ideological practitioners and the Democrats who made it their mission to oust Trump since he occupied the White House. As a Filipino-American
who lived in this country for the past decade, I can say that there may be basis to believe in an unprecedented campaign waged by Democrats to kick out Trump through their connections to mainstream media, a lot of whom historically favor and lean towards Democratic candidates and Hollywood whose celebrities again are mostly liberal to even leftleaning. You can hardly flip any TV channel here whether it be on regular or cable programming without finding a talk show host starting off his or her program with a monologue berating Trump on his latest infraction or misdemeanor. In essence while they accused Trump of outright lying and spreading

fake news, they also built a climate of vitriolic hate towards him that began auspiciously when they experienced a rude awakening after their pet Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton lost to Trump in 2016. Vicarious suffering WE HAVE to understand this phenomenon very well, especially these days when a lot of people are going through all kinds of suffering, physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, moral, financial, social, political and a long etcetera. When we understand it well, we would have the chance to take advantage of suffering, since suffering can open up a lot of good things for us. Suffering is not just purely negative thing in our life. We cannot help but suffer with everyone else, because
whether we are aware of it or not, we are actually interconnected with one another. When one suffers, everybody else also suffers. Yes, we suffer too. This truth about ourselves can be described in many ways: that we are in the same boat, we belong to the same body, we are actually one family, we cannot help but live in some communion among ourselves. THE Philippine Ecumenical Peace Platform (PEPP) raises its alarm and concern over the deteriorating prospects for peace in our land. The advent season is upon us, yet unpeace reigns. Respect for human rights, which is a primary requisite for peace, is ignored, or worse, demonized as a barrier to “peace and order”. This is evident in the arrests of a journalist and six union organizers, on the day when the whole world was commemorating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Several activists have also been arrested or killed in the past few months while numerous lives continue to be claimed under the campaign against illegal drugs. Harmful rhetoric abounds, even coming from the President himself. The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) is
relentless in its malicious red-tagging of organizations and individuals critical of the government, including churches and church personalities, by falsely accusing them of being linked to terrorism. This is in sharp contrast with the advent period a year ago when back channel negotiations between the government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) resulted in a Christmas ceasefire which redounded to a hopeful atmosphere for peace. Unfortunately, during this COVID-19 pandemic, the government rejected the results of the back channel talks, unilaterally stopped the peace negotiations, and proceeded to heighten its war against the NDFP, the New People’s Army (NPA), and the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), and its so-called “legal fronts”. The Anti-Terrorism Act
was passed and substantial funds were also designated by the government for its counter-insurgency program with P19-billion set aside for the NTF-ELCAC. Since then, three NDFP consultants – Randal Echanis and Eugenia Magpantay and Agaton Topacio — were killed, while many others like Rey Claro Casambre of the Philippine Peace Center remain in jail. Even former NDFP Consultant Alfredo Mapano, who was already working for the government, was re-arrested. Ecumenical group urges gov’t, rebels to observe Christmas truce

AGAYAN DE ORO – A group of leaders from various religious denominations has called on the Philippine government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) “to silence the guns” of their combatants in the spirit of Christmas. The Philippine Ecumenical Peace Platform (PEPP) said it was concerned over the deteriorating prospects of peace after President Rodrigo Duterte and the NDFP ruled out a ceasefire during the holidays. “The advent season is upon us, yet unpeace reigns,” the religious group led by Archbishop Emeritus Antonio Ledesma of Cagayan de Oro said. The group said the recent announcements of Duterte and the NDF were in sharp contrast to last year’s back channel negotiations between the two parties that resulted in a Christmas ceasefire. Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, PEPP said Duterte rejected the results of the back channel talks and stopped further peace negotiations with the
communist rebels. The group said the government proceeded to heighten its war against the NDFP, the New People’s Army and is “legal fronts”. It said it was raising its “alarm and concern over the deteriorating prospects for peace in our land”. “The advent season is upon us, yet unpeace reigns. Respect for human rights, which is a primary requisite for peace, is ignored, or worse, demonized as a barrier to ‘peace and order’. This is evident in the arrests of a journalist and six union organizers, on the day when the whole world was commemorating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The global pandemic brought so much chaos in the lives of the people, particularly, the latter contributed stress and anxiety along with losing their livelihood. It’s never easy for individuals to push through with one’s life especially when we are all jammed inside the four walls of our houses. Hence, planting and nurturing greens are the people’s way of embracing changes and stress during this time. Research shows that planting plants can reduce stress. People
who spend time cultivating plants have less stress in their lives. Plants soothe human beings and provide a positive way for people to channel their stress into nurturing. Gardening too helps maintain healthy weight. Gardening is an exercise, it uses every major muscles or muscle groups in our body. Thus, planting isn’t something ordinary for it have many beneficial effects to our well-being. Whether we call it planting, cultivating and gardening, whether or not we are coping on a crisis, such is one of the healthiest hobbies that we can develop and nurture.

Dar, F2C2 will also aid the beneficiaries in accessing its credit programs, advance training, farm mechanization, processing facilities, among others. DA-RFO 10 Regional Technical Director for Operations Carlota S. Madriaga emphasized, the program targets to organize the farmers and other stakeholders in the agri sector to consolidate their produce and come up with a unified buying price to their advantage. She urged stakeholders not to focus on a singlebased commodity, but to include other crops and
livestock-based commodity. Meanwhile, MACOMPC Chair Calixto DS. New LANDBANK Lending Centers to serve more small farmers, fishers in Mindanao
State-run Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) opened two new lending centers in the provinces of Sultan Kudarat and Davao del Sur as part of its thrust to expand its reach and intensify support to the agriculture sector in Mindanao. The new lending centers will provide accessible financial services and affordable credit assistance to clients in the area, notably local government units (LGUs), small and medium enterprises (SMEs), agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs), and small farmers and fishers for agriculture production, equipment acquisition, and working capital. “The establishment of LANDBANK Lending Centers in the provinces of Sultan Kudarat and Davao del Sur is a testament to LANDBANK’s continued commitment to support inclusive economic growth in Mindanao. This would also help us to reach more of our priority sectors—the small farmers and fishers who need our services the most,” said LANDBANK President and CEO Cecilia C. Borromeo. Meanwhile, Davao del Sur is one of the fastest growing provinces in Mindanao driven by the proliferation of agricultural businesses. With vast agricultural lands full of fertile soil and enriched by favorable climate, agriculture is the main source of livelihood in the province with farmers producing mainly coconut, rice,

GCP recently energized the TorilBunawan 230kV transmission line, the final component of its Mindanao 230 kiloVolt (kV) backbone project. This will secure the reliability of power transmission services in the entire Mindanao. As one of NGCP’s critical projects, the Mindanao backbone will connect bulk generation from the northern and southern parts of Mindanao and ensure stable and continuous power from Lanao del Norte, passing through Agusan del Sur, all the way to Davao del Sur. Among the generating facilities which will connect to the line are the GNPower Kauswagan Clean Coal-Fired Power Plant, Therma South Incorporated Power Plant, and San Miguel Consolidated Power Corporation, with a total combined capacity of 1,440MW. With an ERC-approved cost of PhP7.09 Billion, the project involves the construction of the Matanao-Toril 230kV and TorilBunawan 230kV transmission lines, the upgrade of the Balo-i-Villanueva-MaramagBunawan line from 138kV to 230kV, as well as the upgrade of its substations in Malita, Matanao, Toril, Bunawan, Balo-i, Villanueva, and Maramag. Energization of the project components started with the power transformer in Villanueva Substation and Maramag-Villanueva 230kV Line 2 in September 2019, while the Balo-i-Villanueva Lines 1 and 2 were energized in September and October of the same year. Transformers in Bunawan Substation and the Maramag-Bunawan 230kV lines were energized also in October
2019. This was followed by the energization of another new transformer in Villanueva Substation and the Maramag-Villanueva Line 1 in November 2019, while a power transformer in Toril Substation was energized shortly after in the same month. The Matanao-Toril 230kV Lines 1 and 2 were energized in December 2019 and January 2020, respectively, while the MatanaoCulaman 230kV Lines 1 and 2 were energized in the same period. The final component, the Toril-Bunawan 230kV Lines 1 and 2, were energized in November 2020, despite the difficulties posed by the varying lockdown protocols implemented across the country. “With this completion, the line will supplement the existing Davao-Toril-Matanao 138kV transmission line in transmitting any and all available and incoming generation, ensuring transmission service reliability for the entire region,” said NGCP. Apart from this, the Mindanao 230kV Backbone project is an integral part of NGCP’s Mindanao-Visayas Interconnection Project (MVIP), which will link the Visayas and Mindanao islands and realize sharing of power within the entire country. “The Mindanao Backbone is critical to the MVIP because through this project, the new transmission line will accommodate the capacities needed to fully support and utilize the capabilities of the interconnection,” stated the company. the savior of our damaged humanity. As such, he assumed all the suffering of all men due to sin. Christ is the very epitome of what is known as “vicarious suffering,” since he, who need not suffer, chose to suffer for us and with us. If we want to conform ourselves to this pattern and savior of our humanity, then we ought to have the same attitude Christ had and continues to have toward the suffering of men. We have to learn to choose to suffer for and with one another! We have to be eager to have the vicarious suffering for the others. And these days, with so much suffering around, we should realize that we have a golden opportunity to identify ourselves more with Christ by suffering with and for others. In this regard, it would be good if we are always aware of the suffering of others. We should be pro-active in this. We should not just wait for others to tell us they are suffering. We have to take the initiative. And our own suffering should not prevent us from thinking also of the suffering of others. In fact, our own suffering would become useful and more bearable if we go through it with the suffering of the others, offering it to God and making it part of the continuing suffering of Christ that is meant for our redemption. Thus our suffering that we convert also as a vicari-
ous suffering for the others would also become a share of the redemptive suffering of Christ. With this understanding of suffering, our fear of it disappears, and instead of fear, we would have an eager desire for it. Suffering becomes a very positive element in our life. Just as Christ embraced his suffering, his cross and his death, so should be our attitude toward all kinds of suffering, whether it is ours or those of others. In this time of Pandemic, who do you think are those powerful persons that could bring life to the children to become successful dreamers? Who do you think could continue the learning that children wish to realize? Teaching is a noble profession. Nothing can beat the teachers work prowess just to save the lives of their learners. Teachers’ life in the workplace could simply the same as a human robot. Left and right are the tasks of the teachers. Experiencing the New Normal of Education, teachers embraced the challenges of the Department of Education. The face to face interaction and exchanging of ideas between teachers and learners are totally vanish. Instead DepEd stands to continue education by crafting and implementing Learning Continuity Plan ( LCP). This LCP is the blueprint for this school year’s new normal for the teachers, learners, internal and external stakeholders to be guided during the implementation of plan. Who do you think would be the best implementers as we go on to process? The teachers itself could jump in the bandwagon in this time of crisis. The teachers initiate innovations for them not to deviate the Inter – agency Task Force Health Protocols. The said 1 – meter social distancing, wearing of face shield and face mask, using disinfectants and infrared thermometer are some of the things that
they need to follow. The parents choose learning delivery modality ( LDM) based on the Enrollment Survey Form. This survey was cascaded and become the basis for the chosen LDM of the school. Balatacan Elementary School under Tangub City Division chooses Radio Based Instructions. This is the alternative learning delivery modality. Teachers would make the craft and implement the process. Teachers will undergo Thematic Layering of Competencies, Competency Based Scripting Radio Drama, Radio Play production, Canned Facilitation, Live Facilitation and printed self - learning materials. Teachers would also tap external stakeholders like signing of Memorandum of Agreement to utilize Purok housed as dropping station for distribution and retrieval of SLMs. Monitoring through cellphone and other means of communication just to access and monitor learners’ work. Teachers would check learners output and interpret their scores in the online encoding spreadsheets. Then, whatever results, the teachers will find another intervention to enhance the learning capacity of the learners. These are the works of the teachers in this new normal.
