Barangayanihan caravan showcases support of private organizations

ILIGAN CITY -- While aiming for the betterment of the communities here in the country, private organizations poured their support as they joined hand in hand with the government in the Duterte Legacy: Barangayanihan Caravan which recently transpired in Brgy. Hinapanon Saturday, December 11.

Among the stakeholders present in the activity were Metro Iligan Eagles Club which frontlined the free circumcision for at least 50 kids and the Philippine Red Cross for the bloodletting activity involving roughly 50 donors.

Metro Iligan Eagles Club President Vincent Rey Gerodias said their fraternity has already been part of the mobile force driven to assist the people through community extension programs, and it is for this reason that they participated wholeheartedly in the caravan.

ILIGAN CITY -- The city’s economy registered another growth in 2020 following its record in 2019.

This, after Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) - Lanao del Norte Chief Statistical Specialist Osler Mejares reported during the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) dissemination forum Thursday, December 9, that it hiked up by 1.4% in 2020, beating its growth record of 0.5% in 2019.

As per the compiled Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the services sector was noted to have the biggest share in the overall economy of the city with a three-year average share of 50.4%, followed by the industry, and agriculture, forestry and fishing (AFF) with 47.7% and 1.9% average shares respectively.

the next year. On the other hand, the industry sector tallied a contraction by 5.6% in 2019 but increased by 8.6 % in 2020, and only agriculture, forestry and fishing (AFF) consistently grew for two consecutive years, going up by 3.2% in 2019 and 6.2% in 2020.

Mejares said the enlisted fastest growing industry in 2019 included professional and business services which was up by 17.6%, wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles by 14.1%, and financial and insurance activities by 11.5%.

Last November 25, 2021, hundreds of women raised their hands to call attention to the plight of women and girls around the world. Supported by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Cebu City Chapter and the City of Mandaue through the advocacy, “Abay sa Kahayag (Guiding Light)”, the event aims to extend a helping hand to victims of abuse and raise awarenes about discrimination, gender inequality and women empowerment.

“We are all here to celebrate every woman on this planet especially now, during the pandemic when millions of women and girls are facing heightened insecurity and violence”, Zontian Atty.

Regal Oliva enthusiastically said in her opening statement.

A staunch supporter of women and President of Zonta Club of Cebu II, Petite Garcia adds, “The 18 days campaign to end violence against women and children marks its 30th year and is a call to eliminate all forms of gender-based violence and to galvanize women from

all backgrounds, women, and girls who are tired of being demeaned, diminished, and dominated. Let us not ask any woman or child to settle for less or to wait any longer. For THIS is our time and the time is NOW.” In the launching, Congresswoman Emmarie Ouano-Dizon, Mayor Jonas C. Cortes and Councilor Cynthia Cinco-Remedio, gave their respective messages of support, while Senator Risa Hontiveros, Rep. Ma. Lourdes Acosta-Alba, District 17’s Governor Chavali Pamela Osathanugrah from Zonta Club of Bangkok II Thailand, and Dr. Rhodora M. Bucoy were also present to impart their knowledge on various women causes.

Present as well in support of the event were District Lieutenant Governor Ofelia Bautista, Area 3 Director Terry Apistar, and Vice Area 3 Director Tess Chan.

WITH the waning of Covid-19 to a very encouraging degree, life starts to normalize, sending positive signal that soon this pandemic will be a thing of the past.

For over two years, the damage in our lives brought about by the sting of Covid-19 was excruciating, a nightmare like no other.

In fact, we are forced to re-think the way we work, and the way we live.

We learned a new discipline never imagined to rule mankind in an instant.

We followed strictly the IATF-induced health protocols to the letter, or suffer the consequences —spend our lonesome at the hospital, or go down to our graves forever.

We learned to be more health conscious, to wash

our hands, to wear facemasks and to practice social distancing.

Simple life discipline was the only way to beat the pandemic in the absence of a dedicated vaccine.

Indeed this global health crisis had painted a dramatic change in our lives —a norm widely known today as the ‘new normal’.

And as we go through the remaining days of 2021, the numbers of going positive keep on dwindling by the minute, sending a favorable message to all and sundry that Covid 19 pandemic has waned, and soon it will be gone with the wind.

Truly, this pandemic is world reset. It has changed our lifestyles—no matter what your politics, no matter what your religion, no

matter what your status in life.

You maybe rich, or poor, we were all in this together.

With vaccines now produced en masse, Covid 19 may soon vanish into thin air, yet its sting will forever be with us —engraved virtually in the four corners of the globe.

Perhaps the greatest lesson that Covid 19 can teach humanity is that we are all in this together.

Meantime, wear your masks where ever you go.

Kim’s Dream People Empowerment Thru Cooperativism

“Let My People Awake”

“WHERE the mind is without fear and the head is held high, where knowledge is free, where the world is not broken down by narrow domestic walls, in that heaven of freedom my Father, let my people awake.”

These poetic lines by India’s greatest poet, Rabindranath Tagore, reverberated in India four-score years ago, as the once passive nation rose up against British imperialism and claimed its independence, not through a bloody revolution but through a persistent peaceful resistance called “Satyagraha” or love-force championed by the “Father of the Nation” named Mahatma Gandhi.

That Indian struggle against an empire which boast of colonizing a substantial portion of the globe thereby aptly earning the description of “an empire where the sun does not set,” had put in clear terms the meaning of the slogan “the people united, can never be defeated.” How to awaken the Filipinos in deep slumber whose mind has been captured by the profit-motive and where there is so much denigration of spirituality? All the outpourings of information from the mainstream media have not touched on critical issues but only zeroed-in on creating illusions amidst the contemporaneous morale collapse and religious apathy. Has there been any information on the havoc to the environment and to the health of the people particularly the children on the continuing usage of coal burned by six coal-fired power plants in Mindanao?

So glaring is the horrible

social injustices and social wrong committed against the ecological people especially the peasantry yet laws were passed that even buried them deeper in poverty as exemplified by the “Rice Tariffication Law”. Why is our country allowing the entry of cheaply grown rice and corn in neighboring countries at the height of the harvest season? Based on research studies, for every one-peso loss in the selling price of rice and corn, billions of pesos are lost from agriculture, the reason why based on the UN-FAO report, “Philippine agriculture has only .02% contribution to the GDP in the last decade.” What should be the countervailing force against these painful realities?

Whatever be the odds, be it against an empire or conditions that degrade human dignity such as dire poverty, the people, at the end, would always triumph.

But, first, they have to be capacitated to harness their collective strength, founded on a strong faith that they alone can solve their problems by resolving issues confronting their communities.

In our country, whether by law, by nurture and by its nature, cooperativism readily comes into picture as the only instrument now that can put to its knees another kind of “empire” that has caused the marginalization of the people and the ecosystems. That “empire” is the primary cause of poverty, rooted in the powerlessness of the people.

That “empire” manifests itself in many ways. It could be a mindset of the people

that has become passive and apathetic, bombarded by gospels of materialism and consumerism that has produced a “throw away” society. Its other name is social injustice, perpetuated by a skewed socio-economic structure, putting the bulk of the people outside the development processes.

Its “tentacles” are the Dracula-like usurers that sip the blood of the poor through high interest rates, including financial institutions that do not give the farmers the fighting chance to pay their never-ending debt.

That “empire’s” foot soldiers come in the form of the loggers and their cabal of vested interest whose appetite to cut the remaining natural forests is equaled only by their greed to profit from the trees that they have not at all planted.

If India had “Satyagraha,” the Philippines has cooperativism whose time-honored and universally-accepted principles, when in fact practiced, can be the gateway towards dismantling the people’s passive and apathetic attitude; it can be the instrument to transform an iniquitous society; it can be the path towards social transformation based on the principles of sustainable development, social justice and popular participation.

MAGSAYSAY, MISAMIS ORIENTAL - Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar leads the ceremonial launching of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RCEF-RFFA) program in Northern Mindanao on Monday, December 6.

Launched in Gingoog City and Magsaysay of Misamis Oriental, around 330 smallholder rice farmers covering the towns of Medina, Talisayan, Magsaysay and the city of Gingoog who are tilling farms with an area of two hectares and below will benefit the cash subsidy at P5K each with a total amount of P1.65 million.

Davao Region’s Covid-19 recovery tally nears 100K

DAVAO CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) in Region 11 reported on Sunday night eight new cases of Covid-19, with 27 more recoveries bringing down the region’s active cases to 754.

In a statement, the DOH11 said the 99,786 total recoveries correspond to a 95.6-percent recovery rate out of the 104,370 confirmed cases logged since the pandemic was declared in March last year.

The agency said this city has the most number of recovered patients at 51,972 followed by Davao del Norte (18,677); Davao del Sur (10,921); Davao Oriental (7,314); Davao de Oro (7,203); and Davao Occidental (3,699).

AFFIDAVIT OF SELF ADJUDUCATIN BY SOLE HEIR OF THE INTESTATE ESTATE OF THE DECEASED CORNELIO AMBANAO AND BONIFACIO MANDALA-AN AMBANAO WITH DEED OF ABSOLUTE SALE KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS:

This Affidavit of Self-Adjudication by Sole Heir of the Intestate Estate of the Deceased CORNELIO AMBANAO AND BONIFACIA MANDALA-AN with Deed of Absolute Sale (the “Instrument”) is made and entered into this June 14, 2021, at Maramag, Bukidnon, Philippines, by and between:

The Heir of the Deceased CORNELIO AMBANAO AND BONIFACIA MANDALA-AN, NECOMEDIS AMBANAO, of legal age, widow, Filipino citizen and a resident of Barangay Bayabason, Maramag, Bukidnon, hereinafter referred as the SOLE-HEIR-VENDOR; -AND JASPER D. BIOYO, of legal age, married to RUDELIZ BAHOY BIOYO, Filipino Citizen, and a resident of Barangay Bayabason, Maramag, Bukidnon, hereinafter referred to as the VENDEE;

(The SOLE HEIR- VENDOR and the VENDEE shall likewise be referred singly as “the Party” or collectively referred to as “the Parties”, as the case may be.)

WITNESSETH:

For and in consideration of the mutual covenants and agreements herein set forth, the Parties hereto have mutually agreed as follows, THAT:

1. The late CORNELIO AMBANAO, died intestate at Bayabason, Maramag, Bukidnon, Philippines on July 15, 1975, which was her last place of residence athe time of his death; AND BONIFACIA MANDALA-AN died intestate at Bayabason, Maramag, Bukidnon, Philippines on May 22, 1977, which was her last place of residence at the time of her death;

2. The said decedent left no debts and no will, and this instrument does not involve personal property as none was left by the decedent at the time of her death;

3. Art the time of death of the late CORNELIO AMBANAO AND BONIFACIA MANDALA-AN, they left a parcel of land, covered by Original Certificate of Title (OCT) NO. P-159, with Lot. No. 443, PLS-377, more particularly described below: Lot No. 443, PLS-377 Containing an area of FIFTY ONE THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED SIXTY EIGHT (51,768 SQ.M.) square meters more or less.

4. The SOLE HEIR-VENDOR hereto being of legal age and with full civil capacity to contract and being the only surviving legal heir of the deceased CORNELIO AMBANAO AND BONIFACIA MANDALA-AN is the only forced heir of the herein decedent;

5. NOW, THEREFORE, pursuant to Section 1, Rule 74 of the Rules of Court, subject to the limitations imposed under Section 4, thereof, the SOLE HEIR-VENDOR herein, do hereby adjudicate unto himself the above described parcel of land without judicial proceedings as prescribed the aforementioned Rules of Court;

6. The VENDEE has offered to buy, and the SOLE HEIR-VENDOR has agreed to sell a portion of the above-described property a particularly described as follows: “A portion of land, covered by OCT. NO. P-159, known as Lot 443-B, being a portion of Lot 443, PLS-377, situated at Panadtalan, Maramag, Bukidnon, containing an area of THREE HUNDRED (300sq. m.)

SQUARE METERS, more or less.”

7. For and in consideration of the sum of THIRTY THOUSAND PESOS (Php. 30, 000.00), in hand paid by the herein VENDEE, receipt of which is hereby acknowledge by the SOLE HEIR-VENDOR and to his full satisfaction, do hereby SELL, CEDE, TRANSFER AND CONVEY absolutely as by these presents have SOLD, CEDED, TRANSFERRED AND CONVEYED absolutely his share, rights, and/or interest on the above-described property including all the improvements thereon unto said VENDEE, its heirs, assigns, executors or administrators, the portion area of the above-described parcel of land, known as Lot 443-B, being a portion of Lot 443, PLS-377 with an area of THREE HUNDRED SQUARE METERS (300 sq.m.), more or less including all the improvements thereon;

8. The SOLE HEIR-VENDOR, its heirs, assigns, executors or administrators, have no more rights or interest over the above-described parcel of land;

9. The SOLE HEIR-VENDOR hereby affirm that he executed the foregoing instrument out of his own free will without force, intimidation or violence upon other persons;

10. The SOLE HEIR-VENDOR do hereby warrant valid title to, and peaceful possession of the above-described property herein sold and conveyed, and further declares that the same is free and clear of all liens and encumbrances of any kind whatsoever;

MisOr hails FDC Misamis as #1 real property taxpayer MISAMIS ORIENTAL The Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental has again hailed the Gotianun-led FDC Misamis Power Corporation (FDC Misamis) as its number one real property taxpayer for 2021.

The power firm has held the title for four consecutive years since 2018, remitting hundreds of millions in real estate taxes annually. This year alone, FDC Misamis paid over PHP 223 million to PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate. Of the total, PHP 51,476,247.71 went to the Province of Misamis Oriental.

“It has always been the principle of the company to pay the taxes, mao siguro nga four years kalouy sa diyos kita gihapon ang top-notch,” Roxas continued.

Roxas expressed gratitude to the provincial government, saying, “magpasalamat ko sa probinsya sa liderato ni Governor Bambi Emano, dili nila obligation nga pasidunggan kami, kon dili among obligation nga magbayad og buwis, but unsa ilang gihimo ila kitang gi-recognize, pasalamat mi nga nakita namo asa nipaingon among buhis nga gibayad.”

Local officials assured that the taxes collected will fund various development programs.

Acting Provincial Treasurer Mr. Ronald Jame D. Violon said, “paying taxes is an obligation. It supports the government’s projects and programs’ implementations. It is the lifeblood of the government. The more tax paid, the more programs and projects can be implemented.”

He said since the firm has recently vaccinated 100% of its workforce and completed periodic maintenance activities, FDC Misamis is ready to respond to the electricity needs of Mindanao customers as the region slowly revives its economy.

“As we look forward to recovering from the pandemic, FDC Misamis will continue to do its best in being a partner in community development and provide reliable and cost-effective electricity that Mindanao needs the most,” concludes Roxas.

“The contraction of the economy of the province in 2020 was mainly attributed to the declines in services and agriculture, forestry and fishing by 8.4 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively. On the other hand, Industry expanded in 2020 by 1.5 percent,” Bigornia said.

Services accounted for the largest average share of 74.5 percent of the total economy of the province. Industries that contributed most to the growth of services in 2019 were wholesale and retail trade, repair and motor vehicles and motorcycles which grew by 5.3 percent; public administration and defense; compulsory social activities with growth of 25.2 percent, and education, posting 16.5 percent growth.

Meanwhile, in 2020, main drivers in decline were wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles at 5.8 percent; transportation and storage, at -62.7 percent; and public administration and defense; compulsory social activities at -17.8 percent.

Agriculture, forestry and fishing followed services with a three-year average share of 13.0 percent.

In addition, Industry shares at 12.5 percent to the total economy of the province. Construction has the biggest share, followed by manufacturing and electricity, steam, water and waste management, at 6.7 percent, 3.6 percent, and 2.1 percent respectively.

Mining and quarrying in the province has the lowest share in the sector with a three-year average share of 0.1 percent.

The main drivers of growth in industry in 2020 were manufacturing with a recorded growth of 10.0 percent and electricity, steam, water and waste management with an increase of 16.0 percent.

for 2019, the province of Misamis Occidental contributed 0.7 percentage point, ranking fourth among the provinces and HUCs in the region. Meanwhile in 2020, Misamis Occidental has a 0.8 percentage point contribution to the 5.2 percent decline in the regional economy.

In terms of share to the regional economy, Misamis Occidental is the fourth biggest provincial economy in Northern Mindanao with an average share of 13.1 percent. Despite contraction in the economy in 2020, some industries grew, including electricity, steam, water and waste management at 16.0 percent, manufacturing at 10.5 percent, and financial and insurance activities at 10.1 percent.

PSA Supervising Statistical Specialist Brenda Lynn Castro said, “It is really a necessity for the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) compilation to be successful to have that data support from our partners because PSA cannot do without the data support from various data providers such as the Local Government Units (LGU),” she said.

Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator EnP. William Valles, Jr. shares that the PPA is a mechanism to complete the GDP at the subregional level and complement the GDP at the national and regional level. This PPA is viewed as a means to measure the economic performance at the provincial level and to monitor economic development or progress.

DBP deploys ATMs in unbanked municipalities of Eastern Samar STATE-owned Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) has installed the first and only Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in Quinapondan, a fifth-class municipality in the province of Eastern Samar, to bring its services closer and more accessible to clients. This brings DBP’s ATM network to a total of 979 nationwide.

Located in the lobby of the Quinapondan municipal hall, the DBP ATM will provide banking convenience to residents and businesses in the area that generally rely on non-bank intermediaries for their financial needs.

DBP has also deployed the first and only ATMs in the municipalities of Balangiga, General Macarthur, and Balangkayan in the province.
