Orotsco faces snag in PUVMP launching today
THE launching today of 15 brand new public utility vehicles (PUV) by the Transport Service Cooperative (OROTSCO) for the Bugo-Opol via Seven Seas route under the transport modernization program is expected to face off a strong opposition from existing public transport groups operating in the same route, said Joel Gabatan, regional coordinator of the National Confederation of Transport Unions (NCTU). Gabatan said the NCTU has sent a letter-petition to the Department of Transportation DOTr) questioning the approval of the franchise issued by the LTFRB region X to the Oro Transport Service Cooperative (Orotsco). The Bugo-Opol is an old route whose franchise was already issued to the transport groups BukTranco, Igcoda, Kijoda, Bojoda and WBBODA prior to the entry of Orotsco, Gabatan said. Petition Letter addressed to DOTr Secretary Arthur
Tugade against the Routes awarded to Oro Transport Service Cooperative (OROTSCO): “We the undersigned composed of public transport associations in Cagayan de Oro City are filing this letter-petition in your good office against the approval of the franchise by the LTFRB region X to the Oro Transport Service Cooperative (Orotsco) currently served by an existing route whose franchised were already issued to the following transport group: BukTranco, Igcoda, Kijoda, Bojoda and WBBODA. We are not against Orotsco servicing developmental route, but we are not in favor of their entry to the old and existing routes already awarded to the five transport organizations mentioned above. In this regard, we are requesting to revoke the franchise of Orotsco to service the existing routes.” See LAUNCHING, page 11
