Laguindingan Airport Expansion on take-off roll

AGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Help is on the way for the increasingly congested Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental.

Even as it opened in 15 June 2013, air passenger traffic at the Cagayan de Oro Lumbia Airport it was designed to replace had already exceeded the 1.6 million design capacity of the Laguindingan Airport’s passenger terminal building (PTB). “To put it bluntly, the replacement airport was congested upon opening,” said a former DOTC official involved in its planning. larger terminal that could accommodate the current and expected passenger volume over the medium term became urgent and critical. Jollijeep: Secrets to Satisfying the Food Cravings of Hungry Workers

ITH the fastpaced and busy work environment in the Makati CBD, office workers often find themselves tired and hungry before lunch time. This is the observation of 58-year-old food vendor Avelino Camilon, who owns a jollijeep or a mobile canteen stationed outside an office building in Buendia Avenue. For Camilon, the easiest way to uplift the mood of weary employees is to

serve them home-cooked Filipino food. Every day, Camilon is set on a mission to satisfy the food cravings of his customers. He makes sure that everything is ready in his food stall by 10:00 AM, in time for the arrival of his early customers. Employees start to flock to his jollijeep before 12 noon to have more choices. Camilon offers a variety of affordable Filipino dishes, ranging from lunch meals to merienda classics. His

favorite ingredients are the iconic Datu Puti soy sauce and vinegar, which give his home-cooked meals a unique Filipino taste. “Noon pa man, Datu Puti na ang ginagamit namin na pampalasa at sawsawan sa mga pagkain na tinitinda namin,” Camilon said. 54-year-old food vendor Melody Pauyon also finds joy in feeding her hungry customers, most of whom are young professionals who crave for their mothers’ cooking back home. Her passion for cooking Filipino food has inspired her to open up a carinderia in front of her house. She accepts special orders and delivers packed lunch meals and Filipino delicacies to her customers who have no time to leave their offices during lunch break.

Despite being shorthanded in the kitchen, Pauyon receives compliments for her own versions of popular Filipino dishes. For her customers, the food satisfies their cravings because it tastes just right – not too salty, not too sweet, and not too oily. Planning cmte to tackle MOU with USTP for research projects THE 19th City Council, through the committee on planning and development chaired by Councilor Ian Mark Q. Nacaya will take up the proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to be entered into by and between the city government and the University of Science and Technology of Southern PhilippinesCagayan de Oro Campus (USTP-CDO) relative to the conduct of collaborative research projects for the improvement of food consumption, health condition and environmental status of target communities.

She admitted, that her father is, now, not in the city where she is working now— Utah City, The reason is that neither of her parents went to the college. The latter is now the CEO of Mindanao Daily. Last week, I got a posting in my face book account. It was about the female Rector of Utah Valley University (UVU), the USA. She is from the Philippines. War is hell

CHECK the news! Everyday, killing in every part of the world is unceasing. This is because of war. Warriors go and fight prepared to kill and to be killed with no fear. In the forests, in the streets - a lot of them are found dead bodies spread-eagled. Some are even mutilated. In the rivers, in the oceans - a lot of them are found floating if not eaten by the hungry sharks. Check the global news and allow me to ask the question: but what about those innocent lives who are just victims of war atrocities? Are they prepared to die in such a hor-

rible state? It is sickening to realize that those people a re killed within just a flick of a finger by those waroriented people - people who are compensated and trained to kill. More often, we can check the news about numbers of people dead and injured caused by building and street bombings, chemical poisonings and nuclear power testings. Killings, yes, there will be always be killings. The Super Powers are (again) in a race to put as many weapons as possible into their allies’ hands. The Arm producers are urged and more encouraged to make more weapons and explo-

sives. As the Great Powers never stop intervening in these small countries’ affairs, there will be more casualties. Isn’t it much better for them to help the Third World Countries economically than supplying them with these weapons and teaching them how to use them and kill each other? How many more innocent lives shall we find scattered in the streets? How many more of them will be seen floating in the open seas with shattered bodies? And how many more young and old people will be buried innocently leaving their loved-ones

Hong Kong protests: Monday marks retailers’ worst day yet

Long-running protests on the streets of Hong Kong ramped up on Monday after a general strike crippled transportation networks and thousands of protesters took the streets in multiple locations around the territory. For retailers it was perhaps the worst day yet of the Hong Kong protests which are now entering their third month. . A small proportion of protesters have become violent, vandalising police stations and other public assets, assaulting police and barricading roads and thoroughfares, including the cross-harbour tunnel. Yesterday, hundreds of stores were closed across Hong Kong as staff joined the strike and participated in protest action. Many high-street shopkeepers shuttered their stores to

protect against damage, while those in malls closed due to staffing issues or similar concerns about crowds. In the prime Causeway Bay shopping destination, Sogo mall on Hennessy Road was closed in the afternoon as protestors began building a barricade outside the complex. At 5.30pm, management of the nearby World Trade Centre advised shoppers and office staff via a tannoy to “remain calm” and watch out for their own safety after word spread that protesters may assemble at the centre. While some of the stores were closed, mall staff told the South China Morning Post reporter at the scene there were no plans to close the centre. Earlier in the day, some protesters sought shelter in

Tai Po Mega Mall as police conducted a dispersal operation outside. At Wong Tai Sin, protestors entered Temple Mall to escape tear gas outside. A huge rally was held inside Sha Tin mall, where many shops were shuttered, including clothing retailer H&M and luxury brands Chanel and Dior. Protesters in the centre chanted: “Strike! Support to the end.” Across the harbour, parts of Nathan Road and Argyle Street were closed and tear gas was fired on Nathan Road soon after 5pm. Rows of shops which would usually have been busy in early evening peak hour had their roller doors down and locked, one noticeable exception a McDonald’s restaurant where people ate in the window observing the chaos outside. ages showed often-bizarre scenes of suitcase-towing tourists stepping around riot police. In another part of town, protestors creating a bonfire outside the gates to a police station politely paused and stepped aside to let tourists pass by. Long lines of traffic snaked across Hong Kong island into the heart of the business centre and hundreds of people were stranded at the airport, where more than 200 flights were cancelled at one point due to staff shortages related to the strike. The Airport Express train service was also suspended at one point.

TD Falcon victims in LdN receive relief goods LANAO DEL NORTE--Taking immediate response to the needs of the victims of tropical depression, the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte led the distribution of relief goods, August 2 at Fabian Flores Cultural Center, Barangay Maranding, Lala town. The Municipality of Lala along with the Municipalities of Kapatagan, Salvador, Sapad, Tubod, and Sultan Naga Dimaporo was flooded when torrential rains poured July 15 until the next day which caused rivers to overflow and filled the national highway and other low lying areas. Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo personally handed kitchen utensils, canned goods and rice including a family kit to each of the 58 families from Barangay Maranding,

El Salvador, Pinoyak, Rebe, Darumawang Ilaya, Tenazas, and San Miguel. “ What I only asked from you is to think about your safety. Please do not stay near the river or in floodprone areas. We cannot stop it from happening again. We are the only ones destroying mother nature and it is now that we feel its effect. I hope that those illegal quarrying must be stopped before it will cause more damage to the area and to the people’s lives and I encouraged you to plant more trees,” Dimaporo said. The governor sincerely thanked Mayor Angel ‘Tata’ Yap for actively supporting the efforts of the provincial government and humbly asked the local chief executive to submit the necessary documents to Provincial Social Welfare

MANILA -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is seeking to double, or to raise to 50 percent, the contribution of electronic commerce to the country’s economy by 2022, as more micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and internet users engage in e-commerce. DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez cited other neighboring countries which are already doing all payments and even small transactions in the mobile phones. “ The y are just our neighboring countries. The good health of all citizenry is very important, young and old alike. This is the goal of the Philippine Government as our nation observes the National Nutrition Month celebration pursuant to Presidential Decree 49, the Nutrition Act of the Philippines signed on June 25, 1974. The National Nutrition Council (NNC) leads the nationwide launching of the observance of National Nutrition Month every month of July each year. This year’s National Nutrition Month celebration has its theme ” Kumain Nang Wasto at Maging Aktibo… Push Natin ‘to!!! The theme enjoins everyone to promote and realize the importance of healthy diet, and proper exercise for the better health. Promoting this to everyone can contribute awareness for better nutrition and physical activity to achieve better health status. It focuses also on the importance or proper nutrition for school-age children so that they become mentally alert, physically healthy and active, and intellectually capable. The Department of Education (DepEd) as one of the ten members of the Governing Board of the National Nutrition Council, is enjoining all schools in the country to participate in the celebration by undertaking activities that will highlight the importance of good health and nutrition. With this mandate at hand, Alubijid Central School (ACS), of Alubijid, Misamis Oriental, actively participated in the celebration of the 2019 National Nutrition Month starting July 1, 2019 up to July 31, 2019. The school management of the Alubijid Central

School, with the support of the internal and external stakeholders had conducted various activities at the school premises in line with the month-long celebration such as weekly feeding program from kindergarten to Grade VI pupils, Tula contest for the first week of July, Cooking Contest for the second week and Table setting and skirting contest for the third week. All the winners in the weekly contests were the participants in the culminating day contests. On July 31, 2019, Alubijid Central School had culminated the Nutrition Month celebration with various activities. Morning activities included Tula contest for Grades I-III, Cooking contest for Grade IV and Table setting and Skirting for Grades V and VI. The afternoon activities started with a short program held ACS covered court. Every class section had decorated their tables and displayed with different fruits. Every grade level also had presented tula, jingles and dances to entertain the crowd. But the highlight of the culmination activities was the feeding of the thirty seven (37) ACS pupils categorized as severely wasted pupils at its newly refurbished Lunch Counter. On the school feeding program, the ACS management had sourced out support from the internal stakeholders (ACS teachers and barangay officials donated cash amounts and some parents donated in kind such as fruits and vegetables). Aside from that, the school also has built a fish pond where Tilapia fish specie has been raised. Grown Tilapia fish

were then harvested for use in the feeding program as one source of protein, especially for the thirty seven severely wasted children of ACS. Aside from saving money to buy fish in the market, ACS has now its own supply of fresh Tilapia fish for their feeding program. Having a nutrition program that starts with the young population in indeed a good initiative for all the people and for the future of the country. And maintaining the good that has been started by promoting healthy diet among all ages is equally important in realizing a bright future. A million thanks to the school management and teachers of ACS, to the parents and barangay officials who in one way or another, had contributed much in making the 2019 Nutrition Month celebration more meaningful. From the two phenomena above, we can infer that achieving the ultimate goal, by only working hard is not enough. We have to believe in our God. Moreover, we have to be thankful with what we have been—gifted. By being gifted means that God has already given us enough. Then, our obligation is how we have to be responsible for that gift. So, it depends on our own way to deal with: both a hard work and smart work. And, of course believe in God having given us a capital— being gifted whatever we are. Hard work is related to our being lazy or not. Smart work is related to our way of thinking how to cultivate our God’s gift. Don’t blame anyone surrounding us. Never blame our God. Blame ourselves when we cannot develop our own gift. God’s precious destiny to us is already whatever we have got so far. Astrid Tuminez and Dante M. Sudaria are the evidence I have got at the moment. But, I have learned a lot about Filipinos. When I was in Bontoc, Mountain province, I stayed in a small hotel. It is located in the middle of a community. I went out every early morning. I had coffee in a small and simple coffee kiosk near the hotel. Though, there is a coffee shop in the hotel lobby, I enjoyed going out to the folks’ simple coffee kiosk. I chatted with the folks— the local people there. Fortunately, speaking English is normal and we could talk a lot. Laughing, smiling. Chatting at that time, in the very early morning, was nice. I learned they had got up earlier than me. They worked hard, and really they do the hard work every day as they told me; carrying heavy things, uploading them on the truck and small tree-wheeled pedicab. Really they worked hard. The national leaders should manage these hard-working folks with their hiddentalents to be smart workers. I cannot imagine how the farmers work in the Philippines. But, I can guess because I also had some farmlands when I was a child. I always got up early in the morning. I visited my farmland and sometimes I also did a plowing together with the famers in the farmland. Hard work and it was so tiresome when in the evening starting to sleep.
