Just recently, Datu Salibo celebrated the “Nutrition Month” through a simple culmination program with the theme, ““Batang Pinoy, Sana Tall, Iwas Stunting, Sama All, Iwas All din sa COVID-19” held at the municipal gymnasium.

RDC bares NorMin’s accomplishments amid COVID-19 contagion MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL -- Despite the health and economic crisis brought about by coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 contagion, Regional Development Council (RDC)-10 Chair and Misamis Occidental Governor Philip Tan said Region 10 still has one of the fastest-growing economies in Mindanao.

Education cannot wait; our learners cannot wait. We continue with the process so we can give hope and continuity, and contribute to the normalization of activities in the country,” This speech is just enough for teacher to look forward and become optimistic as we face the challenges in the accessing quality education and how DepEd plans to deliver it in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In fact,in our school,the visible way to show such positivity in this new normal is the visible participation of teachers in supporting region,division and district based projects such as brigada eskwela and pagbasa.All the teachers are doing their part from making instructional materials and making modules and worksheets.Inspite of the announcement about no face to face teaching on high risks areas,teachers are still optimistic that the result of pandemic will decreace and flatten its curve that it might change the decision before August 24,2020,the opening of classes for the S.Y 2020-2021.

NPA rebel killed in Bukidnon firefight

CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – A combatant of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in a 10-firefight with government troopers in the hinterlands of Bukidnon Saturday, the military said Sunday.

In this technological era, ICT in education has compelled many schools to get accustomed to smart technology. This school communication software uses computers, the internet, and multimedia as the medium of communication.

According to MyClassBoard.com, computer-based learning is one of the modules of school communication tool that helps students to enhance their learning skills through

computer aided education. It imparts computer knowledge in students and enables them to obtain large amounts of information from various websites. After two decades of introducing computers to schools, education has been revolutionized ever since then. Over the past few weeks, school leaders’ roles have been unexpectedly and dramatically changed by the COVID-19 crisis. The unprecedented nature of this situation means there is no set direction for them to follow.

Sameer Sampat, and Azad Ommen of Global School Leaders (GSP) stressed out that school leaders are like actors in a play where the story, the script and costumes have all changed mid-performance, and they are on stage impro-

vising to adjust to their new role.

Very few school leaders have thorough training and support for their role, and even fewer have been given clear guidelines on their expectations through disaster response and recovery.

Despite these daunting circumstances, we have seen incredibly inspiring school leaders acting to ensure the safety and wellbeing of families and minimizing the disruption faced by out-of-

school children.

We believe that leaders will have to address the following factors: Mental health and wellbeing challenges among teachers and students who may have suffered from anxiety, depression, isolation or malnutrition, learning losses among children, loss of students and teachers, ensuring adequate supplies, and scheduling and other logistical challenges.

DA-10 partners with USTP for research study THE Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) continues its collaboration with the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) for a research on the socio-economic profile of the farmers in Northern Mindanao.

Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations Carmelita T. Bajarla along with Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Division Chief Cora A. Dumayaca met with Professor Edgar Allan C. Po, PhD of the USTP on July 21, 2020 to critique on the draft of the study entitled ‘Socio-Economic Profiling of Farmers in Northern Mindanao’.

A total of 35,000 respondents from the 175

municipalities and cities of region 10 were surveyed during the study.

Data on their crop/ animal being produced, socio-economic profile, cropping practices, farm power preferences, market support and extension services, including the challenges to productivity were gathered.

RTD Bajarla said the collaborative research project will significantly impact the policy directions of the agency, with DA as the funding agency and USTP, as its implementing agency. “ This analysis will be used as a reference tool to help management in deciding priority programs, projects and interventions to stakeholders,” she detailed. # (AMBManto)

‘Gulayan sa Paaralan’ pushes in CdeO schools thru seeds distribution CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY– Amid the ongoing pandemic, schools within the city of Cagayan de Oro, carries on with their health and nutrition as well as environmental preservation advocacies through their ‘Gulayan sa Paaralan’ project.

Now, Cagayan de Oro National High School - Senior High School (CdeO NHSSHS) and Lapasan National High School (LNHS) have add-on and start up provisions to do such initiative, as they have received their requested assorted vegetable seeds from the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) on July 22 and 23.

Turning over the seeds assistance, comprising 300 packets pinakbet (okra, eggplant, squash, string beans and ampalaya), and 20 packets pinakbet and 5 packets pechay seeds, were DA-10 Regional Technical Director for Operations Carlota S. Madriaga and OIC, Operations Division Chief Audy G. Maagad.

The garden inputs were received by school representatives: Administrative Officer II Ellen D. Somosierra of CdeO NHS-SHS and Lovellie C. Neri, a SPED teacher coordinator of LNHS. “Through the Program,

we basically teach our children on how to live. While they are temporarily learning from their homes, they can be more productive by planting vegetables. And, after months or in a few weeks, they can value the essence of such activity, as they can eat their homegrown products,” Somosierra remarked, adding it is opportune, especially this Nutrition Month.

Likewise, the Gulayan aims to strengthen the integration of environmental education in the school curriculum, said its Secondary School Principal III Marlon Francis C. Seriña.

“This will sustain environmental consciousness and action among learners while instilling them the values of unity, teamwork, volunteerism, nationalism, and community service for environmental protection and conservation,” the CdeO NHS-SHS official expressed.

Meanwhile, with the ongoing health crisis, Neri said, the teachers and parents alike are eyed to plant the vegetable seeds in available spaces of their school.

“For now, our focus is on how to abundantly grow vegetables, and eventually, these will be used as supplement

to the food being provided in our feeding program activities,” Neri explained.

Since the coronavirus contagion, DA-RFO 10 has intensified and even gained, various group implementers, in drumming up the Plant, Plant, Plant, Program (Agri 4Ps) of the government, to ensure sustained food production, availability, food accessibility and affordability.

As of July 18, 2020, a total of 877.092 kilograms of veggie seeds were already provided to 54 local government units, 32 groups, and individuals.

VERY often - sometimes too often! - the thought is back! If we wake up in the morning (or even many times in the middle of the night), the thought is back.

Sometimes, the thought will not let us sleep. The “act of thinking”. the “reflection”, the “opinion” or the “serious consideration”, no matter, how we describe it - our memory and conscience is always with us as a permanent companion.

Especially now in times of Coronavirus.

We brood over unsettled problems. Sometimes we also bear unfair treatments, arrogance, ignorance, incompetent know-it-allbetters, and unbearable oddballs, who inexorable love to make our life a hell while living themselves a disorderly life.

We would not like to be distracted, but we’re toying with some good ideas how we could throw overboard all that “human garbage”.

What will come next is a matter of conjecture.

Of course, I’ve got my ideas, but I’m not a mind reader. Too many trains of thought make us thought-

less and absent-minded especially in difficult and important daily life situations.

Does waiting and/or sleeping solve our problems?

Or is it just again in time?

Our life’s central idea should not be, that while waiting, time solves all our problems.

Thoughts should intensify, condense and deepen plans followed by actions.

It’s good and helpful to carry thoughts in us all the time. Incomprehensible, or better unfinished and un-matured thoughts, no matter whether positive or negative, should be slept on, before tiredness outstrips us with supersonic speed.

Sometimes we feel that our thoughts and ideas can’t be fulfilled with life. Where the heart is willing, it will find a thousand ways; but where the heart is weak, it will find a thousand excuses. If doubts begin to take roots, we should rouse from pink-tinted idealism or wear down and annihilate nightmares and erase and wipe out such thoughts and ideas.

If our thoughts are good and have the chance to be

fulfilled in action, especially if “the other side” is prepared and willing to step on to such a bridge of life, we might get support and words of encouragement.

And, if not? No action?

Maybe it is God’s will to keep and protect us from a careless, rash, disadvantageous and uneasy action.

Every new day gives us new inexhaustible possibilities to survive, to bear trials and to start a new beginning.

We overlook and fail to notice many chances to lie through our sluggishness and laziness while thinking and dreaming of unequaled and unfulfilled ideas.

The inspiring two-day conference Organizations that focus on the value of inclusion and invisible diversity, in addition to traditional diversity, typically have superior performance as compared with those that do not (Michel Cournoyer, 2017).

IT was on August 1 and finished on August 2, 2020, the international conference held by an inclusive society.

By being inclusive, it means that the members are not only researchers such as faculties and academicians. It can also include administrators. It can also embrace all teachers not only from colleges but may also be from any schools. I hope my guess is correct.

ISTAR (International Society of Teachers, Administrators, and Researchers) is inclusive It was founded by Dr. Rommel V. Tabula. As the founder and President as well, he has held some international conferences.

I was invited as a keynote speaker during a two-day conference: hosted in Bangkok Thailand. The theme chosen was Language Education and Research in the New Normal: Perspectives and Directions.

The theme above is relevant to the phenomenon today: Covid 19 outbreak.

People around the world are affected by this pandemic. We have been about six months keeping ourselves at home and social distancing. Due to this Covid 19 outbreak, we might be bored. But, as

administrators, teachers, and researchers, we should not be dragged into a boring condition.

ISTAR—the scientific society—provides us with activities. We can join the conferences they hold. We can be the participants. We can be also involved in the speakership. The most interesting one that I had got involved for two days was my opportunity. I was invited by the ISTAR President as the keynote speaker on the second day, August 2.

The theme was really enticing. And, my topic was related to my field that I have been engrossed with. I talked about ESP Approach for Multidiscipline in the Global Era. ESP stands for English for Specific Purposes. This approach is the way how to teach English directed to the purpose the students want to learn.

There were more topics discussed. That is why; it was participated by the diversity of participants. But, the topic was still related to language education and research. The discussion was also directed to the issues in the global era.

We have known that English is an international language.

For the Philippines, people are lucky because English is also spoken in this country.

Like the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore are also lucky.

Their people also speak English. But for Indonesia, and also Thailand, English is a

foreign language. We have to learn formally not naturally.

Formal means we have to study in schools. Informal means we have to acquire that language naturally.

But the most impressive during the conference was the inclusiveness. ISTAR with the members involved in it is an inclusive society.

It can involve all the related administrators, teachers, and researchers. They are included in the scientific society because their works are related to it.

So, cultures are blended.

No “color” of the individuals is dominated. But, all are one. They have the same vision and mission to get in touch with ISTAR for getting inspiration. That is the organization that is inclusive.

Vision and mission can be depicted in the theme. And the participants are engaged and inspired. It was really inspiring.

Dr. Djuwari is an Associate Professor and the Director of Language Laboratory at STIE Perbanas Surabaya, the editor of some research journals in the Philippines and Indonesia. He is also a journalist in some newspapers in Indonesia; the President of International Association of Scholarly Publishers, Editors, and Reviewers (IASPER).

MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday said it is in talks with the country’s medical community as the latter called for a “time out” and the shift of Metro Manila back to enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

“We are currently in dialogue with our medical front-liners to discuss the best steps forward, and in so doing, we will ensure to strike a balance among all the important factors that we have to take into account,” it said in a statement.

In a joint letter, several medical societies asked the Duterte administration to declare Metro Manila under ECQ from August 1 to 15 to “recalibrate strategies” against Covid-19.

“Health care workers are united in sounding off a distress signal to the nation – our health care system has been overwhelmed,” the letter posted at the Philippine College of Physicians page read.

The medical workers said the government should use the two-week ECQ as a “time out” to address several issues, including those on case finding and isolation, contact tracing, hospital workforce deficiency, transportation and workplace safety, and public compliance with self-protection.

“We understand that imposing an enhanced community quarantine is a complex decision. Though health may be just one dimension, let us remember that we need healthy people to reinvigorate our economy,” the health workers said. “The health sector cannot hold the line for much longer. Our health workers should not bear the burden of deciding who lives and who dies. If the health system collapse(s), it is ultimately our people who are most compromised.”

SMC begins massive mangrove planting in Bulacan MANILA – San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has started planting 25,000 mangroves on 10 hectares of coastal area in Hagonoy, Bulacan --the first in the target 190,000 mangroves to be planted over 76 hectares in Bulacan and Central Luzon.

The initiative is part of a massive, wide-ranging plan to address perennial flooding in the province, ahead of construction of the country’s newest and largest international gateway just north of Metro Manila.

“This project is a major component of our strategy to help solve flooding in Bulacan once and for all.

MANILA – Clients applying for documentary requirements from police regulatory and front-line offices will be reduced to a maximum of 950 per day, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Saturday.

In a statement, PNP Chief, Gen. Archie Gamboa, said the Administrative Support to Covid-19 Operations Task Force (ASCOTF), headed by deputy chief for administration, Lt. Gen. Camilo Cascolan, recommended the new measure to restrict the movement of civilians inside Camp Crame to minimize the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Gamboa directed the PNP Headquarters Support Service (PNP-HSS) to strictly observe the rules and regulations under streamlined operations starting Monday, to protect the camp from further human-to-human transmission and resurgence of Covid-19 cases.

“We see that there’s a need to adopt more measures and protocols designed to extensively reduce, if not eliminate, person-to-person transactions inside Camp Crame, particularly among the many PNP front-line services to contain the threat of Covid-19 resurgence inside Camp Crame,” he said.

In a separate advisory, HSS Director, Brig. Gen. Alexander Sampaga, said the following front-line offices and services will cater to a specific number of clients per day, for a total of 950 clients: One Stop Shop for Security Guards License (250 clients); Firearms and Explosives Office OSS (200); FEO Heritage (50); Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies (150); Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (50); Retirement and Benefits Administration Service (50); Public Safety Savings and Loan Association, Inc., Crame Branch (100); and Armed Forces of the Philippines Savings and Loan Association, Inc., Crame Branch (100).

“Even under general community quarantine (GCQ), the front-line servicing units of the National Headquarters are always on track to serve our thousands of clients that need police requirements for their employment, license, and others,” Gamboa said.

Meanwhile, curfew hours inside the National Headquarters will still be implemented from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. as part of the preventive measures against the contagion.

PH posts $1.9-B net receipts in H1

MANILA – The national government (NG) registered net receipts amounting to USD1.928 billion in the first half of 2020.

Data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) showed that total foreign exchange inflows from January to end-June reached USD8.203 billion, while foreign exchange disbursement amounted to USD6.275 billion during the same period.

Bulk of the inflows

was accounted for by program loans amounting to USD4.277 billion, and was trailed by commercial borrowings, USD3.672 billion; and project loans, USD254 million.

Of the total programmed loans, USD1.514 billion came from active response loans for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) and USD498 million from emergency Covid-19 and development policy.

Others are accounted for by those allocated for social protection, USD100

million; local government reform, USD300 million; promoting competitiveness, USD399 million; facilitating youth-to-school transition, USD400 million; and social welfare development, USD299.3 million.

Also, emergency assistance for reconstruction of Marawi received a loan amount of USD206.8 million; third disaster risk management loan, USD498.8 million; and social protection support II, USD60 million.

CEBU CITY – The construction of the New Cebu International Container Port (NCICP) will commence this year if consultancy work deadlines on the project are met as planned, the head of the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) on Friday said.

Leonilo Miole, CPA general manager, said consultancy works on the PHP10.1-billion port project in Tayud, Consolacion, some eight kilometers north of the Cebu base port, are “currently ongoing”.

“There are two components in the procurement for the project. Procurement for consultancy which is now ongoing. And another for construction. The procurement for civil works is expected to start October this year,” Miole said during a virtual talk show hosted by the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas.

While the current coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) crisis can delay meeting this deadline, the CPA official is hopeful the multi-billion project could start this year so it will be completed in five years.

ONE does not have to look hard to find evidence that when you close schools due to a pandemic, students’ social, emotional and academic needs are affected.

Despite heroic efforts to quickly shift to distance learning, achievement and equity gaps remain, and in most cases, are exacerbated.

Whether in school classrooms or at home, students need to feel emotionally safe, valued and cared for.

Although eager to determine loss of learning, schools must first prioritize the measurement of school climate, leveraging social and emotional learning to build important foundations for learning.

With social and emotional learning at the forefront, educators should focus their efforts on strengthening relationships with every student and building community within the classroom through

trauma-informed practices and re-engagement strategies.

D e velop plans t hat include comprehensive approaches to formative assessments. With deep levels of attention focused on identifying the social and emotional needs of students as the foundation for learning, plans that include comprehensive approaches to formative assessments, which help teachers understand how well their students are learning on an ongoing basis, will be necessary to guide instructional decisions and resource allocations. Importance of computer literacy among teachers

The world is undergoing rapid changes in the fields of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) and the role of the 21st century teacher has had to adopt accordingly to fit and exist within the said changes in the classroom. Almost all the areas of human life today requires knowledge of the computer. It is therefore mandatory for the modern day teacher to be highly computer literate to be able to assist learners to fit well into the modern society.

The world of teachers and students is expected to continue to change dramatically throughout the 21st century and beyond.

There is a paradigm shift in the way teaching and learning is delivered. As a 21st century teacher, one has to develop essential knowledge,

skills, attitudes, and values to be able to cope with these changes and to help the students address their needs.

The contemporary education system could become irrelevant if the educational gap between how students live and how students learn is not filled. This new generation of learners requires fast access to new knowledge and are capable of taking integrated information to a new level.

Teachers should be updated with the rapid educational trends in technological age where computer is applied in delivering classroom instructions. This versatile machine has the ability to combine speed, and accuracy. To adopt and cope the changes, the field of education especially teachers are required to study the use the application of new technology in order to improve their competence and effectiveness in discharging their duties.

TEACHER incentive programs with a hybrid structure involving both individual and the subject department with incentives can have good results. Multiple and understandable performance metrics combined with regular feedback to teachers may also make incentive programs more effective. Rewards must be strong enough to entice teachers to adjust their teaching practices.

Studies of existing and experimental teacher incentive programs outside of the country (particularly in the United States) have shown promising results, raising student test scores. For teachers to be more effective, clusters of new teachers must meet periodically (at least once a week) with highly skilled

teachers to learn new instructional strate4gies and receive individual coaching.

Of course, this must be done online too.

The mentoring teachers must be the ones to evaluate their mentees per session.

Incentives may not necessarily be in the form of money but private school management can raise rewards for their own teachers. After all, the end benefit will cascade down to the students who will ultimately excel in academic competitions once they compete with other schools. So the reputation of the school is at hand. If a school is reputable enough, the economic cost of rewarding teachers will definitely be outweighed by the benefits which is high enrollment.

Globe, DepEd hold training to keep teachers, learners safe online GLOBE Telecom and the Department of Education (DepEd) have joined hands to create a safe and healthy online learning environment for teachers, students, and home educators this coming school year.

While technology has been playing a big part in the lives of many teachers and students since the community quarantine started over four months ago, it also poses more risks to users who are now expected to spend more time online when classes start.

Thus, as part of its learning continuity planning, DepEd has highlighted the urgent need to keep everyone in the educational community safe online. Globe heeded the call for support and collaborated with DepEd to conduct a live webinar on cyber security and wellness for the sector.

in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte and Marawi City held a tribute and birthday celebration for Soganub who was supposedly 60 years old if he did not succumb to a cardiac arrest on July 22 at his home town in Norala, South Cotabato.

Abel Moya, director of Pakigdait, said they decided to hold the event for Soganub because they cannot attend the latter’s last night’s wake and burial on Monday (August 3) because of the strict health protocols.

Soganub is scheduled to be buried at a public cemetery in Norala.

“The Pakigdait board decided to send a team to Norala to attend the wake and the burial but because of the strict health protocols, it was cancelled. We were told that once we enter Norala, we will undergo the 14-day quarantine. That would defeat our purpose of going there because we cannot still attend the burial,” Moya said.

“Nakakadurog ng puso. Hindi na nga namin siya nakita during the last days of his life, hindi na nga kami makapaglamay, hindi pa namin siya mahatid sa kanyang libing,” Moya added.

(It is heart breaking. We have not seen him during the last days of his life, we cannot attend his wake, we cannot even send him to his burial.)

Moya said, Soganub has been a ‘pillar’ of Pakigdait for 15 years and became the chairman after the Marawi siege.

“He did not lose hope” Wearing his scratches, Roger Patendol, now 43, temporarily left his fishing boat in Barangay Buruun to attend the tribute with his wife.

He said, he wanted to share about Soganub, even if they did not become the best of friends.

Patendol said he only met the priest on June 4, 2017, two days after he was captured. The siege started on May 23. Soganub was captured at the start of the crisis.

“We did not have the chance to have a long talk because we are forbidden to have a chat with our fellow hostages. We have different assignments. But there was only one line that I cannot forget about him when he said ‘we should not lose our hope and faith to God whom we believe who can help us get out from that situation’. That made me realized to hang on to God and never lose hope,” Patendol narrated.

Patendol said he was assigned as cook for the terrorists.

In previous interviews, Soganub said he was assigned to help in making improvised explosive device (IED).

“I only have few words for Fr. Chito. ‘My big salute to you, Father!’ he did not lose hope despite the situation we had during the siege. The last time I saw him during the siege was when I went out from the toilet, he was also from the other side when heard the planes coming and we know it would drop bombs again. We only talked with our eyes saying, ‘let’s hide!’,” Patendol added.

While Soganub escaped and eventually rescued by the military on September 17, Patendol did the same on October 3, after a failed escape attempt on June 30.

“I attempted to escape through the lake on June 30 but the ISIS saw me, I was shot by their sniper. This is why I am a PWD (person with disability) now,” Patendol said.

“Kindness, humility and patience” Noeleta Cosap, another siege survivor, said she met only when they were captured on the night og May 23.

She only met Soganub once but the answer of the priest to his question struck her and made her appreciate life that she has strived so hard to survive in the captivity.

“I asked him ‘Father, what do you think of this situation?’ and he answered, ‘We Christians and Muslims are praying to the same God’. His answer made me think he is the person who possesses kindness, humility and patience,” Cosap said referring to the situation when she was captured by the armed group led by her former students, the Maute brothers.

Meanwhile, the mayor said the local government is slated to celebrate its 11th foundation anniversary on August 18, 2020. He said they will conduct a simple yet significant celebration following strict minimum health protocols.

“Since we think of the safety of our constituents, we will only conduct a simple celebration in the form of Kanduli,” Mayor Sandigan said.

In the midst of this crisis, Mayor Sandigan has called on his constituents to be united in their fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

D ue to t he s er ious widespread of COVID-19, a handful of schools and universities were forced to close. As reported, 120 countries have closed schools on March 2020 for varied lengths of time affecting almost a billion students across the globe. The closure was deemed necessary in order to control the spread of the coronavirus.

Whilst school closures seemed to be a logical solution, prolonged closures pose a disproportionate negative impact on the most vulnerable students. Albeit many schools are continuing online, some students have fewer opportunities for learning at home, and their time out of school may present economic burdens for parents who may face challenges finding prolonged childcare, or even adequate food in the absence of school meals.Hence, education contributes to the protection of children and youth. It helps them maintain a sense of normalcy during a crisis, recover more quickly, and acquire new useful skills such as distance learning skills and deeper digital mastery.

I have read a passage in twitter which says, “The outbreak of the virus and lockdowns at the national level could be used as a best test for the education technology interventions for distance learning.Unfortunately, few systems arrived at this point fully prepared.

“This unfortunate event resonates the plight of the

many Filipino students. In the Philippine setting, access to technology, gadgets, and internet is income-based.

This is why certain guidelines and strategies were adopted in order to address the said challenges.

There are different strategies developed and were implemented amidst the pandemic. First, schools were kept open and advised to enhance their level of preparedness. This involves enforcing preventive actions in schools, establishing protocols for schools’ handling of illnesses and potential cases, and limiting physical contact by reducing social and extra-curricular activities. Second, the closing of schools were done selectively. The government have opted for localized school closures as a measure to isolate infected patients. Third, remote learning and education resources were used to mitigate loss of learning.

Philippines have shifted to distance and remote learning in an attempt to offset the lost time in school. Lastly, teachers’ and administrators’ familiarity with the tools and processes were considered key factors in providing distance learning.

This pandemic, along with other health crises from the past, has taught us that preparedness is crucial. Arguably, this crisis is unlikely to be the last. Hence, our government should always be prepared and must have options to be able to cope and minimize the negative effects of this pandemic.

This electronic independence is inherently dependent upon the Internet. It illuminates the lives of thousands of people by spreading knowl-

edge internationally, thereby making us global citizens.

Humans are social animals.

We always like to remain in some group or another, and we prefer to follow what this group does. All of our traditions and cultures are the product of this group-oriented facet of human nature. A well-known American psychologist, Abraham Maslow, stated in his “Theory of Motivation” that the social need of human beings is the third most important requirement after our physical and safety needs — the third tier in his

hierarchy of needs. Even our self-esteem comes after this social dependence. This is the main reason billions of people use social networking to stay connected, make friends and satisfy their social needs.

Now, the young generation has a tendency to imitate certain scenes from cinemas and from some advertisements. They don’t know such scenes are exaggerated or even created with the help of technological advancement. Thinking that it can be done in real life also, learners nowadays try to imitate it and

landed up in danger. Thus, the media has the power of educating people, the good and the bad. Since it affect the eyes, the ears and the mind, simultaneously nothing can overcome the influence of the media.

And yes, the present life of the learners is controlled by the media alone. From this, as teachers, we should know how deep the influence of media in human life is. We should therefore, educate our students on the effect of media if not properly used and abused.

TOYOTA Motor Philippines (TMP) has revealed the winners from the sporting, promotional, and junior classes of the first round of the GR Supra GT Cup Asia Philippines.

From over a hundred online racers who participated in the leader board challenge, 24 sporting, 24 promotional, and 10 junior class racers qualified for the semifinals stage. The round 1 final heat determined the top three racers from each class.

Leading the sporting class are first placer Luis Moreno, second placer Mark Voltaire Elman, and third placer

Corban Guerrero while the promotional class was dominated by first placer Gab Señires, second placer The junior class winners meanwhile are Russell Cabrera on first place, Inigo Anton on second place, and Sebastien Soto on third place.

“I started e-racing competitively in 2013 after I stumbled on a sim-racing competition at a gaming event in a mall,” said Luis Moreno, the Round 1 champion in the Sporting Class.

“I gave it a try in that event and placed 2nd in the tournament and it was there when I realized I had potential in e-racing.”

“Since then I became active in competitions

on various racing games, gaining experience on local and international events when the opportunity arises,” he added.

“Racing on the track is fun as it is online, only you don’t get to feel adrenaline as the real thing but the intensity and pressure is definitely there,” said promotional class Round 1 champion Gab Senires when asked about the difference between online and on-track racing. “It’s fun to practice online with friends in the comfort of one’s home anytime.”

For now, the Round 1 winners lead the GR Supra GT Cup Asia Philippines leaderboard but the next rounds can still shake up the rankings as Round 2 points are to be multiplied by 1.5 while Round 3 points will be doubled.
