The Sun, the center of our solar system, and eight other planets make up our solar system. These planets can be roughly divided into two groups: inner plan ets and outer planets. The term “inner planets” refers to Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. In comparison to the outer planets, the inner planets are smaller and located closer to the Sun. The Terrestrial planets are another name for them. The other four planets are known as the outer planets and include Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. These four are frequently referred to as “Giant Planets” because of their enormous size. For many years, space has been a crucial and crucial issue. In the past, scientists have made enormous strides in this area by putting people in space and setting a man down on the moon, for ex ample. We still have a lot to learn about the constantly expanding universe, and this has obviously only been barely scratched the surface. One of the most important scientific subjects has only been briefly discussed; there is yet more to come. Some people might believe that investigating the solar sys tem is just human curiosity. This is accurate, yet on the contrary, individuals explore to discover new things and get a glimpse of how the cosmos was made. We can validate or refute scientific hypotheses that are developed on Earth by exploring space. We have learned more about grav ity, the magnetosphere, the atmosphere, fluid dynamics, and the geological evolu tion of other planets, for instance, through studying the solar system.

By VIRGILIO L. LEYRETAÑA SR Former Undersecretary and Chairman Mindanao Economic Development Council (MedCO) Now Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) TODAY, I am taking a leave from writing my next article on “A Citizen’s Expecta tions”. Instead, I am devot ing this space to write an encomium about the late President Fidel V. Ramos - my mentor. If it is true that memories are better than indelible ink then, my memories of the late President Fidel V. Ramos will remain im printed in my heart and mindMyforever.acquaintance and working relations with former President Fidel V. Ramos began sometime 1996 when Mindanao was the theatre of the violent struggle of the Islamic se cessionist Moro National Liberation Front, and the armed rebellion by the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), the New People’s Army (NPA), and the National Democratic Front (NDF). As Vice-Mayor of Cota bato City during that volatile period of our tortuous jour ney to peace, then President Fidel V. Ramos designated me as the Spokesperson for the government’s Campaign for Peace in Mindanao. Apprehensive that refus ing a lawful instruction could cause the ire of the president, I obliged. Thus, I became the first local official to advocate “Give Peace a Chance” amidst the percolating cauldron of public opinions. Never did I imagine that as a Spokesperson I would be sucked into the vortex of a raging and polarizing argumentations. Moreover,

THE last word is the best news of all. A happy ending after all? Really? “The Last Word” is an offbeat romantic comedydrama film written and directed by Geoffrey Haley. It stars Winona Ryder and Wes Bentley. It had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and it had a wider release in 2008.Wesense it at rare mo ments. We see the good, the beauty in new crops, in flowers, in sunshine, and even in rain. Last night’s thunderstorm in Davao City scarred me a lot. Lightning, flood… wow. This world may be full of pollution, war, crime, and hate. But inside us, all of us, linger remnants that remind us of what the world could be like – of what we could be like. The Old Testament prophets dreamed of “that day”, when creation would be made new. And those sensations, following a dis mal monotone of predicted catastrophes, burst out of the last few chapters of Revelation. That perfect world is not merely a dream. Yes, I am pretty sure, it will come true. I really enjoy reading Revelation again and again. Revelation shows us a new world at last. There will be no more tears then nor pain.Revelation ends on a note of great triumph. Somehow, out of all the bad news augured here, good news emerges-spectacular Good News. I remember my radio show hosting on a Good News Radio FM-station in Davao City more than 20 years ago. Yes, good news. To those who believe, Revelation becomes a book not of fear, but of hope. God will prevail. All will be made new. The Bible began, re member, back in Genesis, with a tragic defeat, when humanity, made in the im age of God, rebelled. It ends with a reunion – a marriage, Revelation calls it. A happy ending after all… A perfect world? How could you design it? What would it look like? I am really waiting for your com ments and +++suggestions.

The DA-Philippine Rice Research Institute (DAPhilRice) through the Rice Competitiveness Enhance ment Fund (RCEF) Seed and Extension Programs is currently costly and can lead to soil and water pollution. Thus, they emphasized the need to determine the amount of mineral nutrients available and lacking in the soil. With this, the Institute started conducting massive soil analysis of farmers’ fields representing major soil types in RCEF target areas through the use of the Minus-One Element Technique (MOET) kit. The project started in the 2021 wet season and is expected to complete generating specific recommendations for 512 municipalities by the end of 2023. “We have processed the recommendations from the first batch of the MOET set ups and are getting ready to cascade these to the target areas. We are collaborat ing with our partner-local government units (LGUs) to ensure that the recommen dations reach the farmers, which they would hopefully adopt,” Bordey noted. MOET is a diagnos tic tool used to identify deficient macronutrients like nitrogen, phospho rus, and potassium and micronutrients including sulfur, zinc, and copper in field conditions. Part of its results show the right ele ment, amount, and timing of fertilizer application needed by the crop for better“Cropsyields.require both macro and micronutri ents for better growth and development. Some of it can be sourced from the environment. The rest are deficiencies that can be supplemented by fertiliz ers,” Ailon Oliver V. Capist rano, DA-PhilRice nutrient management expert, said. He further said that the common method of assessing the needs of the rice crop is to observe its physical appearance. When crops turn yellowish, some farmers would usually apply urea to solve it. However, Capistrano said the practice may not always address the soil or the crop’s specific needs.“Common fertilizer grades that farmers use like urea and 14-14-14 provide the macronutri ents needed by the crop. These include nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). While NPKs are generally important for crop growth, there are also micronutrients such as copper, zinc, and sulfur that are necessary because it affects the soil and the plant’s capacity to absorb NPK. Thus,

The BEMEF is organized in four levels: (i)goal, (ii) sector outcome, (iii) Intermediate Outcome (IO), and (iv) Enabling mechanisms (EM). The goal represents the contribution of the Department in achieving societal aspirations in terms of improving the state of education in the country and global community. The sector outcome represents the result that DepEd would like to attain as an organization. It also encompasses the strategic directions and agenda of the Department as an agency. It describes the condition and characteristics of the learners the organization wants to produce – what we want our learners to be after they complete basic education. DepEd aims to develop Filipino learners with physical, cognitive, socio-emotional, and moral preparation for civic participation and engagement in post-secondary opportunities in the local, national, and global communities. It seeks to reinforce current measures of learning outcomes to recognize diversity of talents and intelligence. It ensures that policies and programs aimed at addressing the holistic needs of learners are implemented.

LILIBETH C.BAGAS , Teacher III Mambuaya Elementary School
By: ALTHEL FRANCIA M. PUERTAS Teacher II, Lagonglong Central School Lagonglong District, Division of Misamis Oriental At what time one would become wise or can be called as a wise being? Do knowl edge and wisdom are the same? Majority would seem to agree that both are. In the real perspectives of life, one will only become wise when he recognizes how limited and inadequate the knowledge he has and to what extent his desire to obtain it. Needless to say, accepting and know ing ignorance of oneself is painstakingly to be the best indication of becoming sen sible or wise. On the other hand, boast ing how intelligent you are is a mere fact of being unwise or foolish. And likely, showing the world your ignorance is somewhat accurate gestures of stupidity or lack of intel ligence. And even pretending to be knowledgeably equipped even if not is extremely igno rant and only foolish beings risk doing the aforementioned manners. Every career ori ented and those searching for excellence must understand this factual matter. In the context of diverse workplace demands varied understanding to address the difficulty between life and work and the complexity they give. As the common statement from elders, “ex perienced is the best teacher”. Indeed, because time and in stances help someone become more seasoned and refined. Allowing ourselves into dif ferent challenges will help us manage our lives better as these factors are believed to be very imperative in our existence.Dayby day, all of us are given an equal opportunity to learn, unlearn, and re learn. We have to undergo the process of becoming wise individuals in order for us to become the cream of the crop. Admit your incapacities and embrace change. You need to grow as it gives value to your life and provides a definite purpose of your subsistence. By dealing with these facts, it will allow us to turn into technocrats also known as technical experts. People pos sessing the latter are deemed to perform great managerial and leadership skills while displaying great wisdom and discipline. However, when we tend to showcase our best selves because of the knowledge and wisdom we have, we tend to be overwhelmed with work demands and errands which are common attributes to stress. That thing is factual. Because, I believe that the prize of good work is more work. Now, let’s change our perception. Do not be afraid to exhibit your worth and ability, but be motivated to acknowledge your ignorance from within. Whether you are good or bad at one thing, wise or ignorant to something is not the real score here. Be conscious of your dealings and its consequences. Only awareness alone makes a per son wise and truly educated. We can always use aware ness as our fuel to do our best as it is very essential to life. It helps us to be genuine, idealistic, and optimistic. It completes the incomplete, bridges the gaps, and mends the bits and pieces of life caused by difficulty and hard ships. Above all, the best way to keep awareness valuable is to beware and be aware that ignorance makes you wise too.

The IO represents what the DepEd as an organization endeav ors the learners to be while inside the basic education system in terms of access and quality. Upon hearing those words of irony and agony from the late President, I surmised that my candidacy was in extremis. With that presidential imprimatur and its subliminal message of support for the MNLF candidate, I need not be a seismograph to determine the result of the election. I realized that my political aspiration was in extremis, and my candidacy rendered kaput. It never occurred to me that performing my citizenship ob ligation to the country would jeopardize my political aspira tion. I never envisioned that my infatuation with peace and my dalliance with unity in diversity would make me a victim of my own naivete. Least of all, I never imagined that my candidacy would be jettisoned and sacrificed in the altar of peace and the over arching national interest. Indeed, it was frustrating and hurting to laugh, but I was too old to cry. Nonetheless, I harbored no rancor. Those supervening events became the road to my Damascus. It was my own epiphany about the vagaries of politics and human nature. The incidents imbued me with valuable lessons in the adminis tration of state affairs, leadership, and,Takengovernance.altogether, the lessons of my experiences of working with the late President FVR served as my headlights in public service. It became a mantra reminding me that, as a leader, it is essential to have an encompassing and inclu sive vision. Focusing on small details makes one overlook and understand the larger problems and Workingchallenges.with the late Presi dent likewise imbued me with unforgettable lesson from the “bibingka” strategy of President Ramos. This means that, in solv ing problems we must listen to both sides. By putting one side on top and the other side down we can connect and evolve a wise decision.Complementing the “bibingka strategy” was the president’s doctrine on complete staff work. This a management principle that guided us in performing tasks and responsibilities. Simply, it means that in anything we do we are responsible for our reports in a manner that superiors need not do anything further than review the submitted reports or recommendations and indicate approval or disapproval. The late President FVR was a leader with an indefatigable quest for peace. Once, when we were at Kalsangi resort at the foot of Mt. Matutum in General Santos, where he plays golf, he asked me to ride with him on a golf cart. While navigating from one hole to the other, he expounded on his insatiable passion to seek com mon grounds with the so-called “enemies of the state” such as the separatist Moro National Libera tion Front (MNLF). When I asked him why, despite oppositions, he pushed for the peace agreement with the MNLF? Moreover, I asked him why he pushed for the repeal of the Anti-Subversion Act or the Anti-Communist law, Republic Act (RA) 1700. This law was passed in June1957 during the presidency of Carlos P. Garcia.
probably explains why, although he was elected with the lowest plurality in the country’s history, he succeeded in generating sup port and approval.
For me, the late President Fidel V. Ramos was a father fig ure leader whose paternalistic leadership style made a difference in my life. Mr. President, I value the opportunity of working with you. And I will always treasure the memories of working together in the service of our country, people and God.

The late President explained that he conceptualized BIMPEAGA when our relations with Malaysia was estranged due to the Mindanao problem. Accordingly, more than just being an instrument of trade and economic coopera tion, BIMP-EAGA was formed to strengthen relations with our neighbors and to ensure security, social and economic stability in EAGA. He held the view that as long as we are in speaking terms and continue talking to each other, it is better than shooting at eachThatother.was the way it wasand the way we were with then President Ramos. Admittedly, the late Fidel V. Ramos was not an infallible President. But, for me, he was not a mere accessory or an appurtenant of the system. He was an engineer, soldier - the only five-star General in the Armed Forces of the Philippines, a war rior transformed into a politician and President. He was a leader who never stopped searching for common grounds - a foundation for our common interest. That

Robinsons Supermarket, SM Su permarket, and Puregold, prices of sugar in their Metro Manila stores dropped to PHP70 per kilo from a high of PHP110 per kilo a few weeks back. Over the weekend, four ware houses in Guiguinto, Bulacan jointly inspected by the BOC, SRA and the DA yielded at least 60,000 bags of suspected hoarded sugar. The huge volume of sugar discovered in various inspected warehouses in Luzon and lately in Mindanao has led Palace of ficials to conclude that the sugar shortage was artificial, caused mainly by the hoarding of the commodity by traders who want to profit from the sudden spike in prices. THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) recently issued Certificates of Authority (COA) to Operate to two additional banks, allowing them to proceed with full operations as digital banks. This has resulted in a total of six digital banks allowed to operate in theThePhilippines.mostrecent recipients were UnionDigital Bank, Inc. (UDB) and GoTyme Bank Corporation (GTYME), which obtained their certificates last July 12 and 29, respectively. In the first quarter of 2022, the BSP authorized Tonik Digital Bank, Inc. (TONDB) and Maya Bank, Inc. (MAYA) to operate as digital banks, while Overseas Filipino Bank, Inc., A Digital Bank of LANDBANK (OFBDB), and UNObank, Inc. (UBI) were authorized during the second quarter of 2022. The BSP issues the COA to Operate to digital banks that have substantially complied with the BSP’s conditions for approval and pre-op erating requirements. These include capitalization, risk and governance structure, and information technology systems, among others. The process for securing a COA to Operate begins with the application to establish a digital bank, to be approved by the Monetary Board (MB). Once approved by the MB, the BSP issues a COA to Register, to be submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission. After registration and completion of all other requirements, digital banks may then obtain the COA to Operate from the BSP.OFBDB, TONDB, and MAYA are now fully operational, while UBI, UDB, and GTYME have commenced limited operations targeting select custom ers. Operating initially under limited capacity is a conservative approach adopted by digital banks to further ensure that all aspects of their digital operations are ironed out prior to fully launching their services to the public. UBI, UDB and GTYME are expected to publicly launch within the second half of this year. Digital banks, unlike brick-andmortar banks, have no physical branches. Their financial products and services are processed end-to-end through digital platforms or electronic channels. From January to June 2022, the volume and value of electronic pay ments and financial services processed through digital banks reached 1.4 million transactions and P8.45 billion, respectively.Theoperations of digital banks support the BSP’s Digital Payments Transformation Roadmap, which aims to digitalize half of the total volume of retail payments in the country, and onboard at least 70 percent of Filipino adults into the formal financial system by 2023.

It declared the CPP illegal as or ganized conspiracy to overthrow government for the purpose of establishing a totalitarian regime in theLikewise,Philippines.Icommented that the repeal of the Anti-Communist is tantamount to sleeping with the enemy. It is replete with high risk and pregnant with instabilities and uncertainties. I tried to refresh his memory that historically, no country that cavorted with the communist was not devoured by Communism.Nonetheless, PFVR’s unwav ering answer was: “Alam mo, by analogy, parang “bibingka at puto yan. Kung magaling and iyong pagka timpla at pagluto, seguradong bibilhin at tangkilin ng mamimili at taong-bayan.” It is the same with our ideologi cal battle with the communists. We are all in this together. So, instead of shooting each other, let us resolve our differences through parliamentary means. Let the CPP sell communism in the commerce of ideas to find out if the people will accept and support it. In war, nobody wins, everybody losses - lahat tayo ay talo. We are all Filipinos so, instead of engaging in a shooting war against each other, let us come to terms and settle our difference through peaceful means. During one of his visits to Mindanao, when I was Chair man of the Mindanao Economic Development Council (MedCo) and head of the Philippine Secre tariat for the Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines East Asia Growth area (BIMP-EAGA), I asked PFVR why he was very concerned about BIMP-EAGA?
