Church leaders ask release of Bishop, lift Martial Law, resumes peace talks By CRIS DIAZ, Executive Editor

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Church leaders of the influential Iglesia Filipina Independencia (IFI) on Tuesday demanded the release of IFI Bishop Carlos Morales, arrested almost three months ago in Ozamiz City, and called for the resumption of the peace talk with the National Democratic Front (NDF).

Bishop Antonio Ablon, President of the IFI Mindanao Bishop Conference, said that 3o IFI Bishops from Northern, Western and Northwestern Mindanao, converged in Cagayan De Oro City to join the nationwide demand for the release of Bishop Morales. In Manila, the IFI national cathedral led the

march rally to the Department of Justice (DOJ) where a picket-rally was held in front of the DOJ demanding the release of Bishop Morales. Bishop Morales, the head of the IFI Diocese in Ozamiz City, was arrested at a police checkpoint in Gango, Ozamiz City along with Rommel Salinas. Morales was later detained after Salinas was

reportedly identified as a consultant of the National Democratic Front (NDF) and an alleged top commander of the New People’s Army (NPA). AGAYAN DE ORO CIT Y: Law enforcers in Misamis Occidental have prepared charges against 14 people nabbed during the simultaneous raid of the Parojinog residences in Ozamiz City, where the Mayor Reynaldo “ Aldong ” Parojinog, his wife, and siblings were killed in an alleged firefight with the raiding team early dawn Sunday.

Police Senior Insp. Julie Garcia, the provincial police information officer in Misamis Occidental, said that the suspects, now in the custody of the provincial police office, would be charged with illegal possession of firearms and explosives and frustrated murder. Security Bank IH income up by 8% Security Bank Corporation (PSE: SECB) posted Php 5.2 billion in net income in the first half of 2017, up 8% from year-ago level. This result was driven by a 26% or Php 1.9 billion increase in net interest income to Php 9.3 billion. Non-interest income including trading gains was Php 2.9 billion, a 15% or Php 0.5 billion decrease. For the second quarter alone from April 1 to June 30, 2017, net income grew 32% from year-ago level to Php 2.43 billion, keyed by a 24% rise in net interest income to Php 4.9 billion. In the first half of 2017, the increase in net interest income was driven by a 27% growth in the loan portfolio to Php 340 billion and a 26% growth in deposits to Php 380 billion. Low-cost deposits increased 21%. Wholesale loans grew 25%, of which corporate loan growth was 23% and middle market loan growth was 27%. Consumer loans increased 49%.
