Collective insanity has been flaunted time and again that has caused so much destruction and suffering through world wars when the egoic mindset and arrogance of leaders like Hitler, Pol-Pot and Stalin violated that law that only by being humble that man can be exalted Let us therefore be connected with the Unseen Being by freeing ourselves from the control of the egoic mind! Deep inside, feel the deathless and unmanifested Essence of the Being by connecting to the Power of Now! That is the liberating force!

Often disregarded, even the unseen Wind has its own story to tell as its fundamental role is only recognized in its absence. How can one live without air to breath yet it is always taken for granted, like our love ones whom we have more often than not, taken for granted, yet so integral to us that we cannot live, in fact, without them.

The book of nature presents laws which are very easy to understand but have been violated all these years. It says that everything is inter-connected. When forests are denuded, soil erodes forming silts which are carried by the rivers to the sea, destroying the coral reefs which are the habitats of fish and other marine life. This scenario gives credence to that saying that what evil deeds man does in the uplands are felt by those in the coastal communities.

The worsening ecological disasters are the concrete evidence of why it has become imperative for us to now give high reverence to that book as indeed, there is no such thing as free meal in nature.

Knowing the essence of that “Book,” the 18,581 cooperatives with some 11.5 million members must now be that long awaited robust movement to claim back the lost ecological integrity and be a countervailing force against climate change and violent extremism. This is our response to the United Nations’ call to advance the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and become Transformative Cooperatives for People, Planet, Prosperity and Peace!

from page 1 VID-19 Response Task Force press conference, August 11, Cariño said only 36 establishments have closed in the region and 205 firms have reduced their workforce.

“Naa pa’y 74 percent nga wala naapektuhan (There is still 74 percent, which were not affected). This means that 74 percent of the businesses here are thriving or doing well,” Cariño added.

In terms of imposing tax moratoriums, Cariño said only the national government has the power to do such. The national government has talked out several mechanisms to keep the balance on health and economy.

“We support all interventions that would sustain all operations of our businesses,” Cariño said.

As for the power generating and distributing companies in the region, the regional director said these companies, which are providing essential services, still continue their operations and Region 10 still supplies 50 percent of the power in Mindanao.

On the status of new businesses in the region, Cariño said there are 79 newly registered corporations based on the Securities and Exchange Commision (SEC) data.

These include businesses on trading, manufacturing, construction, and selling of personal protective equipment (PPEs). Also, data from DTI shows that the existing businesses on handicrafts now shifted to the production of PPEs and face masks.

Meanwhile, for tourism-related businesses, the Department of Tourism (DOT)-10 provided certificates of authority to operate to 17 businesses of which 4 are from CDO, Misamis Oriental (2), Bukidnon (9), Lanao del Norte (2).

Prior to operation, Cariño said businesses should comply with certain requirements including the business permit, DTI registration, and the health standard protocols should be embedded in their operations.

As of August 11, there are a total of 763 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, wherein 401 have recovered, 12 have expired, and 350 have recovered. (RTP/PIA10)

“We want to make sure that we are aware of these issues concerning our IP groups not only here in Davao City but also in other places. A celebration of IP culture here is a celebration of culture everywhere else,” she added.

In the previous years, around 300,000 visitors, including photographers from different parts of the country, flocked to the city for Kadayawan, celebrated to honor the city’s 11 indigenous tribes, particularly their cultures.

The city’s 11 tribes are composed of six Moro tribes (Tausug, Maguindanaon, Iranun, Kagan, Maranao and Sama) and five Lumad tribes (Klata, Ata, Ubo Manuvo, Matigsalog and Tagabawa).

“The city will have an austere celebration of Kadayawan as the city is in a period of mourning and vigilance due to the public health crisis,” highlighting, among others, events such as Kadayawan Music Video Competition, Kadayawan in Retrospect, Best of Kadayawan Events Viewing Party, according to the City Government of Davao’s social media page.

On August 17, “Pag-abli sa Kadayawan” (opening ceremonies of Kadayawan 2020) will be done via Zoom / Facebook live, and launching of “Hulagway Kadayawan” (photography contest), “Kadayawan Museonline,” “Kadayawan Music Video competition,” and “Challenge Accepted Kadayawan”; “Kadayawan in Retrospect Part 1,” a special webcast series featuring personalities sharing their memorable Kadayawan Experience via FB live on August 18; “Best of Sayaw Kadayawan” (a cultural dance theatre competition), featuring highlights of past competitions and “Best of Hiyas ng Kadayawan,” featuring highlights of past pageants on August 19; “Kadayawan in Restrospect Part 2” and “Best of Habi Kadayawan,” featuring highlights of the past fashion accessories design competition on August 20; Awarding of Online Events for “Tiktok Indak-Indak Kadayawan,” “Kadayawan Music Video,” and “Most Memorable Kadayawan Experience,” and “Pahalipay sa Kadayawan Online: Paglaum Concert” (Concert of Hope) Part 1 on August 21; “Best of IndakIndak Kadayawan,” featuring highlights past street dance competitions, and “Pahalipay sa Kadayawan Online: Paglaum Concert” (Concert of Hope) Part 2 on August 22; Best of Pamulak sa Kadayawan (floral float) parade and Best of Pitik sa Kadayawan past, featuring highlights of past floral float parade and drumbeating competitions, on August 23; and, Pasasalamat: Honoring the Frontliners (thanksgiving) on August 24.

Duterte said the local government is pushing through with the online celebration only of Kadayawan due to the pandemic.

The mayor issued Executive Order 25 declaring a period of mourning and vigilance from April 17 to December 31, 2020.

Extravagant celebrations are prohibited within this period.

The order provides that city and national government celebrations, parties, anniversaries and festivities shall be canceled; commemoration of important dates and legal holidays should be kept short and must be in somber tone; all barangays shall refrain from the extravagant celebration of their fiesta while all founding anniversaries/ Araw ng Barangay celebrations will be canceled.

It added that private parties to mark personal or family milestones should be kept low key and modest, meaning a celebration in a public place with no more than 25 guests, while those who want to pursue big celebrations can do so next year.

The private sector is likewise advised to adhere to the requirements, recommending a food distribution, feeding program or financial assistance to their employees in place of grandiose celebrations to mark their important events, it said.

Events lined up for the 83rd “Araw ng Dabaw” last March were also canceled by the local government as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the deadly virus in large crowds.

Brigadier General Nolasco Mempin, commander of the 1003rd Brigade in his keynote message clarified that the newly established IP schools are made of wood and cement, with galvanized iron roofs and aggregate footings. Each structure has two classrooms big enough to accommodate 25 to 30 learners per classroom, he indicated.

“Things will change, and change again. But we must try to remember that no matter how substandard the facilities and resources of the location are, this is what the locals have and they are doing their best with what they have. And we must keep in mind that they [IPs] will continue to do the Bayanihan after we, as missionaries, leave because they got by before we showed up. Peace cannot be kept by force. It can be achieved by understanding,” Mempin said.

He disclosed that these schools will replace those built by some left-leaning groups that have already been closed.

Consequently, tribal chieftain Datu Lito Gambay lauded the government for putting up the said tribal schools.

“We are very happy with the construction of these custom-tailored Lumad schools because our children will no longer have to hurdle the day-to-day hardships especially when it rains. Besides, we don’t want our children to be deceived by the NPA’s ‘fake’ schools. We want our children to have a bright future with the government under President Duterte,” the tribal chief said in dialect.

Similarly, Vice-mayor Edwin Abucayan who represented the mayor of Kitaotao town commendably thanked the 89IB soldiers and the parents who worked with no pay just to build the IP schools.

Bukidnon Schools Division Superintendent Randolph Tortola, meanwhile, reported that DepEd has registered more than 400 IP learners from the said far-flung areas. “Though classroom learning is yet to resume due to COVID-19, still, students will have something to look forward to, especially that these children are more than eager and ready to attend classes,” he shared.

San Fernando mayor Levi Edma, for his part, thanked the Philippine Army for the inspiring triumph of the troops and the residents who volunteered to build such schools.

Edma urged the beneficiaries in each community to give their full support to the government because in return, he said “the local government commits to take care of the schoolchildren’s needs, including the salaries of teachers as schools open on August 24.” (RLRB/PIA Bukidnon)

Duterte earlier urged his Cabinet to employ “drastic” measures to shorten the process of securing permits for building telecommunication company cellular towers.

In his fifth state-of-thenation address on July 27, the President called on Globe and Smart Communications Inc., the wireless arm of PLDT Inc., to improve their services by December. (PNA)
