THE Mindanaoan lady solon who has been relentless in her campaign against imported garbage has refiled her bill banning both the import and export of wastes of whatever kind. She is hoping President Rodrigo Duterte will certify her bill as urgent. “I will also file other bills on plastic waste, waste redemption, waste recovery, and the proper management of our water and aquatic resources. This is an allout war on waste because we want our country to be beautiful and prosperous,” said Misamis Oriental sec-

ond district Rep. Juliette T. Uy. “I am requesting the House leadership to ask President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to certify HB 3461 as urgent. I am open to improvements of the bill. We can work out the details during the committee hearings,” Rep. Uy added. She also ask the Bureau of Customs (BOC) anew to make sure imported garbage does not arrive at any of the country’s international seaports aside from the Port of Tagoloan. In the bill, Uy wants the Workers trying to put some wastes in a new package. Fire officials see need to train brgy fire brigades By GERRY LEE GORIT Correspondent

CAGAYAN de Oro City-The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) needs to tap every barangay especially in putting out a fire for the agency to be effective and efficient in its firefighting efforts, fire officials said. To realize the vision, City fire marshal Supt. Alan Cabot said the BFP is organizing the Community Fire Auxiliary Group (CFAG) in all of the city’s barangays. At present, more than half of the city’s barangays have organized their respective CFAGs. “The CFAGs play a vital role in firefighting as we consider them our force multiplier,” he said. Chief Superintendent Lindy Lauzon, the BFP-10 regional director, said the

CFAG can prevent the fire from spreading before the fire trucks arrive. He said fires start at the incipient stage and it is essential that it will be put out right away. “With the presence of the CFAGs, we expect them to do the necessary initial action against the destruction fire. That’s how important their role is,” Lauzon said. Cabot said the CAFG can act as the first responder in case of fire. The standard ratio set by the BFP is one fire truck per every 25,000 inhabitants. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority’s 2015 data, Cagayan de Oro has more than 676,000 people. Cabot said the 15 firetrucks, with 105 personnel,
