Lakatan is a variety of banana. The warehouse was described by the CIDG as ‘big that it can supply hundreds of kilos to the market’. Major William Maisog, officer-in-charge of CIDG Iligan, said the operation was conducted series of complaints were forwarded to their office for overpricing.

MARAMAG -- Due to the increasing demand for disinfectants in the province, a team of faculty researchers from Central Mindanao University has produced 113 liters of hand sanitizers and distributed them to Bukidnon hospitals and government offices. Dr. Melania Enot, director of CMU’s Natural Products Research and D e ve l opm e nt C e nte r (NPRDC), said that the alcohol-based sanitizers were made using the recommended formulation of the World Health Organization. The sanitizers contain 80 percent alcohol,
hydrogen peroxide, double distilled water, and glycerol. As of April 2, the team has distributed sanitizers to the Bukidnon Provincial Medical Center, Bukidnon Provincial Hospital-Maramag, BPH-Manolo Fortich, Impasug-ong Municipal Hospital, some hospitals in Valencia, and CMU Hospital. ILIGAN CITY -- Amid the threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) has continued providing support for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Marawi City. OPAPP distributed 25 kilos of rice each to 120 families temporarily sheltered in Bakwit Village Phase 1, Matungao, Lanao del Norte. The house-to-house distribution was supported by the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM), 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion and 12th Civil-Military Operations Battalion of the Philippine Army. OPAPP Program Manager James Abdul shared that the distribution is part of the agency’s initial efforts for the Duyog Ramadhan activity. Lanao Sur gov’t distributes relief packs to residents MARAWI CITY -- The Lanao del Sur Provincial Government is distributing relief food packs to families in need amid the enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) threat. The Provincial Social Welfare and Development office started the house to house distributions to all the affected households on Tuesday, March 31, in keeping with social distance requirements. According to the Provincial Information Office, a total of 27,383 food packs have been distributed to 10 municipalities in the province as of April 2. These municipalities are Picong, 3,800; Kapatagan, 2,520; Pualas, 2,800; Buadipuso Buntong, 1,730; Bubong, 2,925; Ditsaan Ramain, 2,809; Lumbaca Unayan, 1,974; Mulondo, 2,000; Butig, 3,690; and Poona Bayabao, 3,135. Each food pack contained 7 kilos of rice, 4 piece of noodles, 4 pieces of sardines,

Their first results were released on March 23 and both tested positive for COVID-19. On March 30, after re-testing, their laboratory results tested negative. The total number of persons under monitoring (PUMs) also went down significantly. As of April 3, only 432 remained as PUMs after 1,738 have completed the 14-day quarantine period. “We are flattening the curve. Ramon Ang on Covid-19: it’s life over money
ONCE the center of Duterte’s ire, Ramon Ang of business giant San Miguel Corporation had come out in the open lately to tell all and sundry that life is more important than money amid the spread of the dreaded Covid-19 that has claimed hundreds of precious lives — rich or poor — and squeezed the world’s economy to a gridlock. The loss of money , he says matter of factly can easily be retrieved, but life, once gone, is gone forever. Ramon Ang was right. One of the country’s richest, Ang has assured
his company, producers of quality foods and other basic necessities in life, will double its effort to produce adequate supply of food that will last for six months. Aside from the assurance, Ang, president and chief operating officer of San Miguel Corporation, has pledged to provide P500 million worth of personal protective equipment (PPEs) for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) frontliners. Ang also pledged to support more than 100 ventilators that they will be procured from different
sources. A business tycoon, Ang downplayed the negative impact of the enhanced community quarantine on businesses. Ang says he can make money again but life, once you lose it, it’s gone forever. Between life and money, I’d choose life, he adds. Ang supports the extension of the enhanced community quarantine if that means saving more lives from Covid-19. San Miguel Corporation has launched a number of initiatives already to assist those affected by the

pandemic. This includes a P181million worth of food donations to poor communities nationwide. He has also earmarked P500-million to purchase personal protective equipment for health workers on the frontlines. A mistaken belief
A mistaken belief accompanies each and every one of us daily. Incorrect decisions and wrong doings are part of our daily life. It is almost a ridiculous fact that man wants to know certain truths about mundane things. But really he seems least interested in even mundane truths as can be read many times in newspapers or other media. There seem to be too much rash judgments, and the readers absorb these and make these their own. A fatal attraction! This is sometimes referred to as journalistic mentality wherein accusations are generously made without proof. Evolution
started this trend, when scientists stated for example that man evolved from the apes, without proof. The only proof they had was the missing link, and if I am not mistaken, it’s still a missing proof until now. To look for proofs is a mental activity, which is no longer a common thing nowadays, because it takes really time, effort and is too serious to think about. Yet in Christian education, thinking right is very important. That’s why Philosophy is important in Christian life. To avoid error in thinking, the rules of right reasoning must be studied and mastered. It is really totally neglected in today’s modern
education? Thinking is actually an enjoyable activity but when one is pressured to get a good job for one’s sustenance, then the other more mundane become attractive. After all, great thinkers many time do not get (good?) jobs... . Spiritual writers like the British Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834) noticed that mankind had stopped thinking even two centuries ago. That was during his age. Man probably stopped thinking even earlier. He has ceased many times to search for the truth. It’s easier to listen to gossip and believe in it. What a sign of weak minds!

The virulent black propagandists WHILE the country is grappling against the scourge of COVID 19 the political opposition and their black propaganda machinery are busy concocting toxins to poison the mind of the people. Their targets are no other than Pres. Rodrigo Duterte and his close confidant now Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go. An angr y President warned those who splashed disinfectants to hospital front-liners attending to COVID -19 patients ordering police enforcers to bathe them or let them drink the disinfectant in return. He also ordered the military, police, and barangay keeping order amidst the rioting leftist elements to “shoot them dead” if their lives are in danger in the performance of their duty. What came out in the critical media is just ‘shoot them dead’ in bold letters and skipped the details that led to an uncontrollable mob. In an obviously orchestrated cadence the cabal
of local and foreign-based propagandists attempted to denigrate Senator Bong Go. There is no denying the fact that the Senator has always been with the President to assist and attend to his needs. Bong is his data bank, he knows where to find the records in the voluminous files to name a few. We know the working habit of Duterte and Senator Bong Go is singled out to have the patience and stamina to last up to 3 o’clock in the morning while the President works and maybe patrolling the streets. The black propaganda against Bong is as vicious as it is preposterous. They made a furor of a small box containing 400 pieces of face masks addressed to Bacoor Medical Center “from Sen. Bong Go through the Lucio Tan Foundation.” As it turns out, the Foundation admitted to putting the name of the Senator and that the LTF is merely responding to the call of the President and the Senator for big business to help in
the campaign to curb the scourge os the deadly virus. The critics moreover are quick to exploit what they thought was a potent tool to hit Bong. They came out with a narrative alleging that donations are to be coursed through the Civil Defense Office and for Senator Go to dictate where these will be allocated. This, the propaganda states, is done because the Duterte administration is building up Bong as a presidential candidate. The donations referred to are test kits, Personal Protection Equipments and face masks. The rib-tickler of it all is the claim that the donations will be sent to Malasakit Centers. This arrangement, the poison note alleged, is the reason why shipments of gears and kits to hospitals are delayed. They are wrong in all counts.m The donors can consign their donation to any agency. Bong Go is not even in the radar screen on those perceived to be in the running for president.

If there was delayed in the provisioning of PPEs and Test Kits, blame it on Health Sec. Francisco Duque. He sat on his fat ass like Nero watching Rome burn. That is why we in Davao are mad because our front-liners are getting sick. Friends got together, in response to the PRRD and Bong Go’s appeal to help. And they provided the 500 PPEs and other gears for Southern Philippines Medical Center. Maybe be small but the gears can tie them up until Duque can wake up from his stupor and purchase the much needed items. DA-NorMin continues COVID-19 response, distributes veggie seeds

(SMC) has reported that some 2,000 doctors and nurses have availed of the toll-free RFID stickers. MANILA -- The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has ordered lending and financing companies to defer the collection of payments and charging of penalties while the country remains under a state of national emergency due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. In a notice to lending companies, financing companies, and microfinance non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on April 2, the Commission reiterated the provisions of the implementing rules and
regulations (IRR) of Section 4(aa) of Republic Act No. 11469, or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, which empowered the President to implement a minimum 30-day grace period for the payment of all loans. Under the IRR issued by the Department of Finance on April 1, all lenders, including those under the supervision of the SEC, shall apply the 30-day grace period to all loans with principal and/or interest falling due during the enhanced community quarantine from March 17 to April 12.
The IRR also covers banks, quasi-banks, nonstock savings and loan associations, credit card issuers, pawnshops and other credit-granting financial institutions under the supervision of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and Cooperative Development Authority, whether public or private, including the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), Social Security System (SSS) and Pag-IBIG Fund. The IRR took effect immediately upon publication in a newspaper. The manda-
tory grace period shall be extended automatically if the President extends the quarantine period. All covered institutions shall not impose additional interest, fees, and other charges during the 30-day grace period to the future payments or amortizations of their borrowers. In a statement, LANDBANK said the cash grants are intended for the purchase of basic food, medicine, and toiletries. DAVAO CITY -- Two Mati City, Davao Oriental residents, who were the first patients to have tested positive for 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) a week ago, are now cleared of the virus. Dr. Ben Hur Catbagan Jr., Mati Incident Management Team (IMT) Covid-19 commander, said the recovery of the two patients was confirmed a week after their confirmatory test results
came out. In a statement on Friday, Catbagan said the two patients traveled to Metro Manila and returned via Davao City on March 7 onboard Manila-Davao PAL flight. DAVAO CITY -- The Department of Labor and Employment XI (DOLEXI) has already disbursed a total of P29,945,000.00 cash assistance under the Covid-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP), for 5,989 affected workers from 409 private establishments in the region. In its press release today, DOLE-XI disclosed that it has just released as of April 3, P20 million CAMP fund for the second batch involving 279 establishments with 4,000 workers. On Thursday (April 2), the agency disbursed P9,945,000.00 for the first batch of recipients, covering 130 establishments with 1,989 workers. In an earlier press release, DOLE-XI Regional Director
Raymundo G. Agravante said that the P5,000.00 cash assistance to each of the first batch of recipients can be withdrawn through money remittance starting on the second week of April 2020. “Our team has been focusing and working fast in the evaluation of the thousands of applications that are in our inbox. Rest assured, we will do our best to speed up the work so that we can assist as soon as possible,” Agravante stated. Another batch of applications totaling to 7,900 are for evaluation. Two more successful operations were conducted on March 29, 2020. The PNP Laoag City arrested a saleslady of a pharmacy involved in the selling of overpriced alcohol where a 500ml bottle of alcohol is pricedat PhP177.00. A total of six (6) bottles at 500ml per bottle was confiscated. In a separate operation, the DTI-CIDG team arrested another online seller of overpriced and unlabeled alcohol. The team was able to confiscate a total of 10 gallons of isopropyl alcohol priced at PhP850.00 per gallon. Under the Consumer Act or Republic Act (RA) No. 7394, overpricing of alcohol may be considered as an unfair and unconscionable sales act or practice since it involves taking advantage of consumers in this time of need. The Price Act (RA 7581) also considers this as an act of profiteering. Both of these laws provide
criminal and administrative penalties and sanctions. Under the Consumer Act, if found to have committed an unfair and unconscionable sales act or practice, an administrative sanction of up to P300,000.00 may be imposed and/or imprisonment of up to one (1) year. For profiteering, the Price Act provides for the imposition of fine of up to P2,000,000.00 and/or imprisonment of up to 15 years. GSIS pensioners may now ‘APIR’ online amid COVID-19 threat GOVERNMENT Service Insurance System (GSIS) old-age and survivorship pensioners who were unable to comply with the personal appearance requirement or Activation of Pensioners Information Revalidation (APIR) before March 2020 are now allowed to do it online. GSIS President and General Manager Rolando Ledesma Macasaet said that providing an online service for the personal appearance requirement for pensioners is part of the pension fund’s efforts to protect and assist all its pensioners amid the country’s health emergency situation. “The safety of our elderly pensioners, who are among the most susceptible to COVID-19, remains our top priority. To ensure that all of them receive their pension without letup during the enhanced community quarantine, GSIS has been adjusting its operational procedure,” Macasaet said. Earlier, GSIS has extended to 15 May 2020 the deadline for pensioners born in March and April to comply with APIR. Under normal situations, GSIS requires all old-age and survivorship pensioners to report to the nearest GSIS office or GSIS kiosk during their birth month to ensure continued receipt of their pension. It has been a monitoring mechanism to prevent pension overpayment to deceased pensioners. Despite this concession, according to Macasaet, some pensioners may have failed to undergo APIR even before the program was suspended last March 17. “We are accepting APIR requirements online because we want our pensioners to stay safe at home during the COVID-19 crisis,” he said. To comply with the online APIR, pensioners must send via email a letter requesting GSIS to activate their status and send it to an email address designated by GSIS for particular areas.
