Duterte orders resumption of peace talks with NDF By Antonio L. Colina IV MindaNews

PRESIDENT Ro drigo Duterte on Wednesday directed the government peace panel to work on the resumption of the peace talks with the National Democratic Front (NDF), Secretary Jesus Dureza, Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process said in a statement. “Let’s give this another last chance,” Dureza quoted the President as saying in Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting. Duterte called off the peace negotiations on November 23, two days before the fifth round of formal peace talks was supposed to start and in early December issued a proclamation to have the Communist Party of the Philippines and New People’s Army declared as

“terrorist organizations.” The NDF represents the CPP and NPA in the peace negotiations. Dureza added the President emphasized the importance of forging a ceasefire agreement to stop mutual attacks while the talks are ongoing. The chief peace adviser added the President committed to provide support to the communist guerrillas in order to stop the so-called “revolutionary tax.” Exactly what this “support” is, Dureza did not elaborate.
