DSWD-10 mulls raps vs. netizen over false info SEC flags groups riding on COVID-19 pandemic to scam investors, cosumers
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Region10 (DSWD10) said Thursday it was planning to file charges against a Facebook user for allegedly spreading false information on social media regarding the government’s assistance for families affected by the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19). In a statement, DSWD10 identified the person as a certain Marieta Lucagbo who--based on the screenshots provided by DSWD10 to reporters--posted on Facebook that DSWD-10 will be giving PHP8,000 cash to beneficiaries. However, a succeeding post on Lucagbo’s wall written by one of her children claimed that she merely reported an April Fool’s Day prank and that the latter had no idea about the cash incentives. THE Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is warning the public against individuals and groups taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to defraud investors and consumers. In separate advisories, the Commission has flagged at least 14 groups engaged in unauthorized investmenttaking activities and other fraudulent activities since the declaration of a national public health emergency following the confirmation of local transmission of the new coronavirus disease in early March. NorMin COVID-19 task force steps up efforts to address health crisis CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- In responding to coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 health and economic threats, the Northern Mindanao COVID-19 Task Force beefs up its strategies on social welfare, governance, and economic plans. As of April 2, the Department of Health Center for Health Development in Northern Mindanao (DOHCHD-NM)reported that there are 321 PUIs recorded in the region of which 49 are currently admitted, 40 were tested negative and were discharged, 59 are on home quarantine,
and 165 have completed the home quarantine. There are also 5 positive COVID-19 cases in the region and 10 captured non-Region 10 cases. In addressing such, DOHCHD-NM Regional Director Dr. Adriano Subaan said they are currently working on the documentary requirements to establish a testing laboratory in the region as well as they are tapping private laboratories who can provide the equipment needed to facilitate the tests needed. There are also 131 facilities in the region which
can be converted as isolation units that can handle persons under investigation (PUIs) with mild to moderate symptoms. Such can accommodate 783 cases.
