MAGSAYSAY, Davao Del Sur – The Department of Health (DoH) XI, through the National Nutrition Council, has allocated PHP1.4 million to boost the Early Childhood Care a n d D e v e l o p m e nt (ECCD) program of this municipality.

Magsaysay was chosen as one of the three local government units in the province to be the pilot areas of the ECCD/First 1000 Days project. The two other areas are Digos City and Hagonoy.

15 students send to China for exchange program in China DAVAO CITY – At least 15 students from Davao City will be sent to Nanning, China next year in line with the sisterhood agreement of the two cities, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said Tuesday.

The mayor said they hope to seal the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the educational exchange program by August.

The students will be on full scholarship in any school in Nanning. The

Nanning government will cover the accommodation expenses while the local government here committed to give allowances to the scholars.

Alabado disagreed at first with the PAMB’s decision to reopen Mt. Apo. But he later supported PAMB ecotourism chair Joey Recimilla’s view that ecotourism is a low-impact activity compared to agriculture.

He said some of the residents who benefited from ecotourism activities might have been forced to cut trees to turn them into charcoal for their livelihood.

“When DOT talks about ecotourism, it should emphasize on how people should be treating their environment when they go up to Mt. Apo. You are supposed to be a climber but at the same time, you are also an ecotourist. If you are an ecotourist, you must be environment-friendly. It is more on this education that DOT would like to instill in the people,” he said.

He said it would also be hard to monitor Mt. Apo for any illegal activity if it remains closed.

“If we say, let the government protect Mt. Apo, how many forest rangers do we have? We have very few.

With the help of responsible

mountain climbers going around, if there are illegal activities going on inside Mt. Apo, it can easily be monitored by our climbers,” he said.

To prevent forest fires, the PAMB has limited the number of trekkers to 50 a day, banned camping on the peak, and ordered all entry points closed at 9 a.m. even if the number of trekkers falls below the limit.

Under the unified trekking policy of 2015, trekkers will pay P2,000 (P1,500 trekking fee and P500 camp fee) during peak season and P1,500 (P1,000 trekking fee and P500 camp fee) during regular season when Mt. Apo reopened on April 12.

An additional fee of P1,000 a day will be paid to a guide for a group of five trekkers and a separate fee of P500 to a porter per 15-kg. baggage.

DAVAO CITY -- The Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) issued a Memorandum Circular to clarify the proper use of the Philippine Standard (PS) mark and Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers on products under mandatory certification.

The BPS disseminated Memorandum Circular 1604 or the Clarificatory Policy on the Use and Monitoring of the Product Certification Marks prescribed by the Department Administrative Order (DAO) 04:2008 (“The New Rules and Regulations Concerning the Philippine Standard (PS) Quality and/ or Safety Certification Mark Scheme of the Bureau of Philippine Standard”) and DAO 05:2008 (“The New Rules and Regulations Concerning the Issuance of the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) under the Product Certification Mark Scheme of the Bureau of Philippine Standards”).

The office also noted of their Implementing Guidelines to address concerns of manufacturers, importers and traders on the use of the prescribed PS Mark logo and on the location where to affix the ICC stickers. This took effect on December 22, 2016.

The Circular specifies that the PS mark or ICC sticker should be placed, as a general rule on the product itself, except if the mark/ sticker is not practicable affixing to the product, e.g. ballast, self-ballasted lamps, single/double capped fluorescent lamps, incandescent lamps, circuit breakers, electrical tapes, wires, cables and flat cords; and if affixing the sticker to the product will cause damage to its original packaging such as on television set, air conditioning unit, refrigerator and microwave oven.

Asean kiosk unveiled at Laguindingan airport A kiosk dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) was unveiled at Laguindingan airport in Misamis Oriental last Tuesday, May 9.

The inauguration of the kiosk was spearheaded by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) with Director General Harold Clavite as the guest of honor.

ment agencies and local government units (LGUs) in Northern Mindanao.

The ribbon cutting was also witnessed by Laguindingan airport manager Jose Budiongan.

“The info kiosk is one platform adopted by the PIA in disseminating pieces of information not only about Asean but other government programs and projects as well,” said PIA 10 director Franklin Gumapon.

Gumap on said brochures, flyers and newsletters in the kiosk are for free and anybody can pick and read them.

“Our office is happy to give you the latest information about the government through this kiosk,” he

further said.

An identical kiosk was also unveiled a day later inside the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology campus in Iligan City a day later.

PIA has set up these Asean info kiosks in key strategic areas nationwide to raise awareness and appreciation of Asean and its benefits to the country and the Filipino people as part of its communication support to the coalition.

This year, the Philippines is holding the chairmanship of Asean in accordance with the regular rotation of chairmanship among the members.
