Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines president, lamented that the lower House “has given its consent for the State to kill”. “We, your bishops, are overcome with grief but we are not defeated nor shall we be silenced,” Villegas said. “In the midst of Lent we prepare to celebrate the triumph of life over death, and while we grieve that the lower House has voted for death, our faith assures us that life will triumph,” he said. CAGAYAN de Oro City--A consignee of a chemical that can be used to manufacture illegal drugs will be removed from the list of the Bureau of Customs’ accredited importers, a BOC ranking official said Wednesday. Neil Anthony Estrella, BOC acting spokesperson and national chief of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), said Wednesday it has delisted the consignee of more than 300 drums of hydrochloric acid from India for failing to provide import permit leading to the confiscation of said items as the agency vowed to rid its list of erring importers. Estrella said their campaign to go after importers who have violated customs laws remain in effect with the seizure of the chemical just among the many imported items BOC has seized recently. The CIIS chief was here Wednesday to inspect the seized contraband commissioner (center, wearing black jacket) and BOC Collector for Northern Mindanao Tomas Alcid (left). See DELIST, page 7
