Panabo introduces Local Civil Registry webpage PANABO CITY, Davao del Norte – The Office of the City Civil Registrar (CCR) introduced its own online portal where clients can access important details of various services offered by the local registry office.

City Civil Registrar, Dennis B. Devilleres said that with the establishment of the CCR webpage, it would be more convenient for clients to access vital information such as requirements and procedures, before they start to process their transactions.

“Complete list of requirements and procedures are already available in the CCR webpage, so visiting our office personally only to ask for the list of necessary documents is no longer needed,” he said.

Devilleres added that transaction fees and duration of processing and releasing of documents are also available on the website.

Clients can also track the status of their requests and whether or not the office received their submitted documents.

With this initiative to adapt modern technology and making Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) available online, it will reduce time-consuming inquiries for the part of the client and the CCR staff.

NABUNTURAN, Compostela Valley- Compostela Valley province’s Local Government Units bested all other LGUs in Davao region in complying with the requirements of Business Permit and Licensing System (BPLS) standards in 2016.

Greater strengthening of statistical system urged The Philippine Statistical Systems (PSS), though performing well according to international and local assessments, needs serious beefing up. Jose Ramon Albert, senior research fellow of state think tank Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), emphasized this in a policy note released

by PIDS recently.

According to Albert, several important features of Republic Act (RA) 10625 have yet to be implemented, many of which are critical to the improvement of the PSS. The said law established the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in 2013 to improve the country’s statistical system.

A better PSS hinges on developing better statistical capacities, which, in turn, partly rely on adequate funding. A study conducted by Romulo Virola, former secretary general of the National Statistical

Coordination Board, took note of the near-inflation increases in PSA’s nominal budgets.

Albert gave several recommendations to improve the PSS apart from financing the full implementation of RA 10625.

First, he emphasized the need to ensure the independence of statistics from political interference. “The law, however, does not make explicit mention of separating statistical releases from political statements, nor are there currently any standards and guidelines on this,” said Albert.

The social value of statistics cannot be understated.

Statistics data allow leaders to make informed policy decisions. They also provide the public hard evidence to evaluate and monitor the social and economic changes happening around the coun-

try. It is important, therefore, to maintain a healthy level of independence between the PSS and the political domain.

Second, Albert emphasized “equal access to data produced by the PSA and other statistics producers”.

Third, the technical committees within the PSS, Albert revealed, do not meet regularly. These committees function as a coordination tool and a feedback mechanism. Through them, statistics producers are able to receive feedback and advice from experts on surveys and population projections.

Fourth, the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI) should be given more support than it is currently receiving. The initial plans for the PSRTI under RA 10625 involved adopting an organizational model similar to PIDS, with in-house research fellows. Al-

bert noted that its capacities remain underdeveloped, with “no resources, no capacity, and no manpower”.

Lastly, Albert underlined the crucial role of statistical data in monitoring the implementation of the country’s development plan and international commitments as well as in providing data to sharpen the direction and the efficiency of various government programs and policies.

To fulfill these, Albert said both the PSA and the PSRTI should have access to and the capacity to use alternative data sources, such as big data, for generating statistics.

“It is important for the PSA and the entire PSS to improve the quality of official statistics and the caliber of its human resources aside from having an improved legal framework and a proper institutional environment,” concluded Albert.

SM’s consolidated revenues grew 9% to PHP362.8 billion for the period, up from PHP332.8 billion in 2015. This was driven by an 8% increase in retail revenues and a 12% growth in property revenues.

Retail Operations under SM Retail Inc., which consist of non-food (THE SM STORE and specialty stores) and food stores (SM Markets), reported sustained growth

in total revenues of 8% to PHP276.5 billion, while net income grew 7% to PHP10.6 billion from PHP9.9 billion the previous year.

Early in 2016, SM announced the merger of SM Retail with several leading specialty retail stores with over 1,400 outlets.

The merger received final approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission on 7 July 2016. The specialty stores added 153 stores nationwide last year.

“Following the retail merger last year, the performance of our specialty retail has been boosted by

discretionary spending, especially in areas such as home furnishings and doit-yourself goods, tracking the strong consumption and overall growth of the economy,” Mr. Sy added.

For its part, THE SM STORE opened four stores in SM San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan, SM Trece Martires and SM Molino in Cavite and SM East Ortigas in Pasig. Total gross selling areas of all 57 department stores stood at 0.75 million square meters.

Managing and supervising the school are just one of the many tasks and responsibilities attached to being a School Head; a great and greater responsibility within and ahead but connotes deep and big challenges that are very satisfying more so when you see the students graduate and have reached their academic success in the secondary level.

Being a School Head is not as easy as one, two and

three. You must have overwhelming patience, courage, determination, and the commitment to pursue what needs to be pursued. However, it lightens the load as the teachers and the non-teaching staff of Naawan National High School are cooperative and that we are on the same ship heading towards everybody’s success and academic success.

School management and supervision do not only boil down to observing classes, solving perennial school problems, attending to meetings and

How can we achieve this one? Before everything else, the school functionaries must be on the same boat. They must understand the common objective or goal they are into so that the school learners may be able to achieve its full potential. Teachers should understand its importance and that this goal should not be overpowered by some personal interest over

some matters. Sometimes, the school head and the teachers may have differing ideas but that should be leveled up, of course to avoid problems and chaos.

As teachers, we must always instill in our minds that at the end of the day, it is the welfare of our school learners that is of top priority. We may have personal concerns but the school learners’ concerns should be ahead of us first.

And as a school head, we must see to it that we would be able to consider the welfare of our teachers as well. It is very important that our teachers will feel that they are being able to be listened to and that their ideas and concerns are taken with utmost consideration.

The most, good relationship with our fellow teachers makes us feel comfortable when working and of course, it brings good vibes to each and everyone in the school.

Consolidated revenues of SM Prime’s Commercial Properties Group rose 32% to PHP2.7 billion mainly from the rental revenues from the newly opened FiveEcomCenter that is almost 100% occupied.

SM Prime’s Hotels and Convention Centers posted 32% growth in revenues to PHP3.2 billion largely due to improved occupancy rates and the opening of Park Inn Clark in December 2015 and Conrad Manila in June 2016.

Banking BDO Unibank, Inc. posted a net income of PHP26.1 billion in 2016. Net interest income grew by 15% to PHP65.6 billion, driven by the 16% growth in gross customer loans to PHP1.5 trillion. Deposits grew 15% to PHP1.9 trillion, primarily in the form of lowcost CASA deposits. Fee-based income was up 15% to PHP22.2 billion while insurance premiums contributed P8.0 billion, compensating for the decline in trading gains to PHP4.8 billion last year.

In January 2017, the Bank successfully completed its rights offer, raising a total of PHP60 billion (USD1.2 billion) in fresh capital. This will allow the Bank to sustain its medium-term growth targets and recent strategic initiatives that include ONB’s expansion and coverage of underserved markets, refocusing efforts on the insurance business through BDO Life, and creating an online stock trading platform to serve a fast-growing market through BDO Nomura. The new capital will also provide a comfortable buffer over higher minimum capital requirements with the staggered implementation of the Domestic Systemically Important Bank

(DSIB) surcharge.

China Banking Corporation (China Bank), meanwhile, reported net income growth of 15% to PHP6.4 bilion in 2016 on the back of sustained growth in core and fee-based businesses. Net interest income was up 11% to PHP16.7 billion while gross loans expanded 24% to PHP393.7 billion. Feebased revenues improved 14% to PHP5.1 billion. Total deposits grew 23% to PHP541.6 billion underpinned by growth in checking and savings accounts by 21% to PHP276.4 billion.

China Bank issued the first tranche (PHP9.6 billion) of its PHP20 billion long-term negotiable certificates of time deposits (LTNCD) in 2016 to support its strategic initiatives and business expansion. Its investment house, China Banking Capital Corporation also put up a stock brokerage house, China Bank Securities Corporation and a special purpose company CBC Assets One (SPC), inc.

Establishing respect in school

Respect to one’s self and to others is one of the good values that we should be able to uplift and uphold in our everyday life. Respect should not only be taught in school but it should start at home.

Respect is acquired and it is learned. That is why, as we stand as second parents to these children, we must set as a good example for them to follow, for them to see and for them to live by.

Being nice to others is not difficult. Throwing a smile to anyone you meet in the school ground is not difficult. But, respect is not only shown by saying “Good morning Ma’am” or “Good morning Sir” or in

the course that children pay respect when you enter the classroom; respect can be shown in many ways, that sometimes, others would take for granted for.

And the way we treat others, the way we care for others show also our respect for them. Respect is such as big word but sometimes, it is hard to display, it is hard to present. That is why we teachers, should be the leading catalysts, the leading stewards of respect not only in the school but in the community we live in as well.

And, whether there is someone who is assessing our respect or there is not, let us always live by to ourselves that we should respect everyone.

In the advent of the high technology nowadays, everything comes in miniature.

Small mobile phones, tablets and everything and it has brought an impact in the lives of our learners, plus in such a way that it has greatly affected as well our everyday living.

However, we cannot stop the booming technology of the 21st century but we can ride into it and sometimes we can maximize its use by making it as an avenue for greater learning, for greater purpose.

Now, teachers can do advance and add-on researches in the world wide web and can download sample instructional videos in Youtube that would best fit their learn-

ing. Yes, we can definitely maximize the use of the high technology nowadays. But let us not forget that it has disadvantages as well when not used properly.

But, as teachers, we can somehow ink changes to the learning schemes of our children as long as it is for their better and common good. We can always strategize inputs that would be beneficial to their everyday discipline and learning.

And I commit, that with the advent of this new technological features, as a teacher, I will be a good example on its proper use and will always be conscious in everything. Amidst everything, one thing is for sure, the welfare of my students, my learners will always be on top.

When learning’s a puzzle

PUZZLE-based learning is a teaching and learning methodology that is focused on the development of problem-solving skills.

What is missing in most curricula – from elementary school all the way through to a university education – is coursework focused on the development of problemsolving skills.

Most students never learn how to think about solving problems. Throughout their education, they are constrained to apply the material from each chapter to solve a few problems at the end of each chapter. With this type of approach to problem solving, it is not surprising that students are ill-prepared In 2016, the parent firm raised PHP20 billion from its 7-year Series G retail bonds due in 2023.

Biblical reflection

Every good deed has a corresponding reward The Gospel of Jesus Christ (March3, 2017-Friday) Mark 16:915”Now after He had risen early on the first day of the week, He first appeared to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons. She went and reported to those who had been with Him, while they were mourning and weeping. When they heard that He was alive and had

been seen by her, they refused to believe it.Women in Jesus time was not treated like the dignity of men. There was unequal treatment of the people, because women were lesser in value than men.

But for God, everyone is equal. Mary Magdalene was the first woman whom Jesus appeared. What was the reason behind on this event? Despite of the dark

and risky road and heavily guarded tomb, she was able to pursue her desire to see Jesus at the tomb.

Take note, every good deed has a corresponding reward from the above.

Ephesians 6:8”knowing that whatever good thing each one does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether slave or free. The bravery and courage of Mary brought

her to the tomb. She never minded the obstacles along the way. This is my reflection: Do not permit anything, person, event and circumstance to block your way to find Jesus in your life. Go forward and let God eradicates all your barriers in life.

Take note, the tomb was empty and if ever it was still close, I don’t think so if Mary could open it. Jesus

opened it ahead of Mary’s arrival to the tomb. This is my conviction: Jesus will open any close door for you to see his mighty power. drive (TCVD) or mapping operation in an attempt to verify compliance of establishments in Cagayan de Oro City.

Of the five provinces, Compostela Valley obtained the highest rating in implementing the reforms in streamlining the process of application of securing permit among the LGUs. LGUs which fully complied with BPLS standards include Compostela, Laak, Mabini,

Maco, Mawab, Nabunturan and New Bataan in Compostela Valley; BE Dujali, San Isidro in the Davao del Norte; Magsaysay, Padada, Sta Cruz, and Sulop in Davao del Sur; Banaybanay, Boston, Governor Generoso, Lupon, Manay, Mati, San Isidro and Taragona in Davao Oriental; and Davao City is also a BPLS compliant LGU. The results of this survey serve to monitor and evaluate the implementation of BPLS in the Davao Region and at the same time evaluate the performance of the LGUs for the year 2016.

The survey also shows that the respondents recognized the benefit of one-stop shop, the reduction in the processing, the use unified form, and the reduction of steps in application. Areas needing improvement include improvement in the assessment and payment in the treasurer’s office and on the releasing of business permit.

Instituting reforms in the BPLS among LGUs in Compostela Valley has been

on-going since in 2009, when DTI XI in partnered with DILG XI in conducting BPLS Streamlining Workshop in the LGUs. Key LGU personnel involved in the business permit application process joined the said workshop with the output of the activity immediately implemented by their respective LGUs. DTI Compostela Valley then organized the Licensing Officers and Investment Promotion Officers in the LGUs into an association to foster their role in institutionalizing and sustaining reforms of BPLS as well as in investment promotions.

It is but best to acknowledge that a school is incomplete without the support of our different stakeholders within and outside the community the school belongs.

They have a big role to play in the achievement of these various goals and objectives that is why it is very important and significant that we must create and establish good relationship among our stakeholders. How can we achieve so?

First, we must not forget to invite our stakeholders to any school program and activity that needs and requires their knowledge. They must be updated and informed on the whereabouts of their

children and the school so that they can monitor the progress of both. Through this, they will feel that they are important and that they are very much considered as a family.

Second, if possible, provide them handouts on the latest achievements of the school.

Keep them updated as always.

Third, for business and commercial entities, visit them once in a while not because you have to ask assistance or what but because talking and discussing with them the achievements will make them feel achieved too and that letting them feel that you are giving them enough time in a week or month discussing those matters will make them feel as well that you are giving them so much importance. Fitness Goals: Is CrossFit Boot Camp right for you?

L aun c hed as Davao’s finest and most innovative health and fitness training designed for individuals and families, Crossfit Madayaw has everyone talking since it opened its doors in September of last year. A group of businessmen-friends who have been doing Crossfit since 2014 thought of opening their own gym/ boot camp so they can regularly hang out with friends and bring their families along. Fueled with their growing passion to fitness and healthy lifestyle, Atty. John Flores and 3 other L1 certified coaches and stockholders launched Crossfit Madayaw- which was met with warm welcome from the fitness community of Davao City.

CrossFit program was created by Gregg Glassman and Lauren Jenai in 2000- branded as a fitness regimen and promoted publicly as physical exercise philosophy and competitive fitness sport. Accordingly, it is practiced in more than 13 thousand affiliated gyms worldwide, but most are located in the United States.

Its first gym is in Santa Cruz California while the first affiliated gym is located in Seattle, Washington.

The bootcamp program created by Crossfit Madayaw is designed for individuals with no gym experience to seasoned athletes. It utilizes dif-

ferent types of exercises from body weight training, rowing, running, biking and light weight training.

In Davao City, there are only 2 CrossFit Affiliates, but there are other classes who offer similar bootcamp program but not affiliated with CrossFit. There are more than 300 Crossfit active fanatics in Davao City- an indication that this fitness community is constantly growing. It is highly important that to offer the best value and service, this bootcamp uses the best equipment

from the USA. Certfified L1 training coaches will make sure that each individual is given one on one coaching based on their need, pace and threshold. CrossFit bootcamp program is fit for ordinary people; from mothers, students or working professionals.

Surviving this bootcamp program is based on how you avoid injuries while on training or session. Constant presence and guidance of coaches is primarily important to make sure that each individual know the proper form before doing the workout. Every session normally runs for one hour. According to owner-coach Flores, potential crossfitters are usually intimidated by the heavy weights and high intensity

workouts. A bootcamp is created to jumpstart ones journey. Sustaining possible Injuries is also one common concern but giving importance on proper form and practicing at a lighter weight before going to heavy weights is strictly observed.

If you’re on your way of deciding to do Crossfit, try and join at least one session. Boxes offer trial runs and it will help you prepare your body for more intense sessions. Consider your expenditures too.

Average monthly gym fee for the program may cost you P3,500 or less every month. But then again, if you consider the long term health benefits- the cost should be not much of a concern.
