Duterte also pushes for equal opportunities in the countryside. “Antique, being a Palaro host first-timer, needs all the help it can get for a successful hosting of the annual school-based sportsfest for elementary and secondary athletes,” said Maxey.

Meanwhile, Henry Daut, Philippine Sports Institute (PSI) national deputy training director, said that they have yet to wait for the confirmation of Department of Education (Deped) sports development head Dr. Cesar Abalon on the holding of the Sports Mapping Action

Research Talent Identification (Smart ID) testing among Palaro 2017 medalists. “Dr. Abalon , during our evaluation in Antique, was also interested in holding the Smart ID testing in the Palaro. We have yet to hear from him if it will push through. We are just preparing if it will

Several Catholic prelates lauded the pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte against same sex marriage in the country. Bataan Bishop Ruperto Santos said he appreciated the statement of the Chief Executive, noting that it only shows that he still supports the Church’s teachings. “It is very inspiring and encouraging news. We are grateful to our president and we are appreciative of his wise decision. This shows he still adheres to our catholic teachings, that is, stable marriage and marriage of a man and a woman, is strong pillar of stable and secured society,” he said. “With his decision sanctity and stability of marriage is respected and promoted,” he added. Sorsogon Bishop Arturo Bastes noted that the action of the President is considered “a pogi point.” “It was a very pleasant surprise for me! Very nice of (President Duterte). It is a pogi point for our President!” he added. DAVAO CITY- The Davao City Tourism Office will transform the Sta . Ana Wharf into a Baywalk park or promenade to bring life to the old pier, which used to teem with traders and travelers alike in the 70s. City Tourism Officer Generose Tecson said the clearing of container vans and other unsightly structures within the sprawling old wharf is ongoing before the initial beautification starts. Tecson said the blueprint of the Baywalk or promenade plan developed by the City Engineer’s Office is now complete and ready for implementation. She added they are just waiting for the approval of the budget to fully jumpstart the project. “We are given marching orders by Mayor Sara (Duterte-Carpio) that by May, (there should be) a big difference , “ Tecson said. Tecson said the implementation of the project will go full blast “very soon to achieve a substantial improvement by May.” One of the features of the proposed Baywalk is the establishment of several “small islands” in the wharf to prevent seawater from overflowing to the pier during high tide or strong waves.
