DAVAO CITY -- President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and his official delegation departed on Sunday, March 19, for his back-to-back official visits to the countries of Myanmar and Thailand.

In his departure speech, Pres. Duterte underscored the importance of his trips in strengthening partnership and cooperation with the two nations particularly in economic, trade and investment, education, defense, and combatting transnational crimes such as terrorism, piracy and illicit drug trade.

NPAs have to stop unprovoked attacks if they want peace: AFP

If they are really sincere in resuming peace negotiations, then the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels should stop making unprovoked attacks against civilian and military targets.

“If the NPAs are really sincere and one with the National Democratic Front (NDF) in their intent to resume the talks with government, they should start manifesting their intention by putting a stop to their terroristic activities which continue to harm our

citizens and halt development in the communities,” Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) public affairs office chief Col. Edgard Arevalo said Sunday.

He made this statement as insurgents continue to conduct arson and harassment attacks against legitimate business operators and government troops despite the announcement of the Government of the Philippines and NDF pronouncement on restarting peace talks in

The Netherlands.

Several NPA arson attacks were recorded by the AFP last week, including the torching of a commercial transport bus in Makilala, North Cotabato last March 13 and gutting of delivery van owned by Fighter Wine Company in San Fernando, Bukidnon, also in the same day.

Other incidents of harassment include the series of NPA attacks in Barangay Hinimbangan, Kitcharao in Agusan Del Norte, which

displaced 89 families last March 15.

“While the AFP sees that the NDF continues to push for the resumption of the peace negotiations, it is clear that they are also losing hold of their men on the ground.

The NPA, with their twisted ideals is attacking innocent civilians, extorting money or burn private properties,” Arevalo stressed.

As of this posting, the NPAs have already conducted 62 terroristic activities since

the start of the year.

These include abduction, burning or arson, extortion, ambush and harassment against both civilians and military members.

“On our part, we will continue to conduct combat operations against the terrorist NPAs until we receive an official communication from the Office of the President suspending the all-out war.

Solicitor General Jose Calida said that he will support House Speaker Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez’s plan to file an impeachment complaint against Vice President Leni Robredo over the latter’s video to the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs where she criticized the conduct of the administration’s anti-drug campaign.

“I fully understand and support the sentiment of Speaker Bebot Alvarez that VP Robredo should be rightfully condemned for slandering and selling out our country and its leaders before the UN Commission on Narcotics Drugs,” Calida said in a statement Sunday.

“VP Robredo debased her office and herself by betraying the trust of our

PAGASA: LPA to bring rains over Visayas, Mindanao

The low pressure area (LPA) last spotted at 235 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur will bring rains over Visayas and Mindanao on Monday, state weather agency Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

Also, the northeast monsoon is still affecting Luzon, the agency added.

In its 24-hour forecast, PAGASA said cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides will prevail over eastern Visayas and Caraga.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorm will prevail over Bicol, central Visayas and northern Mindanao.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will be experienced over Batanes, Cagayan and Ilocos Norte.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorm is expected over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over northern Luzon, and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Since their separation, they had never been communicating or supporting either financially or emotionally to each other,neither minding each other affair’s; Petitioner’s seek judicial decree of divorce, thereby, severing their marriage bond on May 4, 1997, so that they will have free hand to do what a single man or woman could do without marital burdens.

Reconciliation between them had already been diligently employed but all proved futile.

Along with well-designed and clearly communicated rules and procedures, the teacher must acknowledge students’ behavior, reinforcing acceptable behavior and providing negative consequences for unacceptable behavior.

Giving students the opportunity to set their own objectives at the beginning of a unit or asking students what they would like to learn conveys a sense of cooperation. Education is the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university. In this era which is the 21st century, educators make innovations to cater new sets of learners in this century.

There is a revolution taking place in education, one that deals with the philosophy of how one teaches, of the relationship between teacher and student, of the way in which a classroom is structured, and the nature of curriculum.

At the heart is a powerful pedagogy, one that has been

developing over the past hundred years. It embraces social issues, the culture of the classroom, life-long learning concerns, and perhaps both last and least, technology.

The basic issues can be described through such key words as “constructivism,” “learner-centered,” “problem-based.” At the heart is the idea that people learn best when engrossed in the topic, motivated to seek out new knowledge and skills because they need them in order to solve the problem at hand. The goal is active exploration, construction, and learning rather than the passivity of lecture attendance and textbook reading. The

major theme is one of focusing education around a set of realistic, intrinsically-motivating problems. Students work to solve these problems, often in groups, often over extended periods of time. Teachers carefully structure the problems so that in the course of solution, the students naturally pass through and acquire all topics of relevance. The students might not even notice that they are undergoing instruction and learning, for the education occurs naturally in the course of activity. This short description obviously simplifies the issues and the variety of approaches, but it does capture the major driving forces.

Simple techniques to take student attention during classroom discussion

Teaching students especially in grade school is a challenging task. It takes a lot of strategies and techniques for them to absorb the lessons in effective way.

The following are some tidbits of simple ways in order for a teacher to gain attention from the pupils.

First is the use of colorful materials. These materials include flash cards and visual aids blended in light colors such as red, yellow, orange and green, among others. These colors are the common ones that basically attract the eyes of the pupils and their attention to learn simple and basic topics. It could also be effective if the

teacher will use it even on the first days of classes. In this way, pupils will look forward to the more classes with that teacher.

Giving rewards to pupils are also found effective.

Each outstanding student is normally being rewarded by school after a school year and during recognition day. However, a teacher can do this in her class.

It could be on daily like during recitations. It could also be monthly, like posting “Outstanding Pupil of the Month” or the like.

This stategy could not only gain attention but as well confidence among pupils.

Integration of ICT Into Classroom Teaching

The use of information and communication technology have caused many changes in the society especially in the life of our students. The impact of ICT in education may just be the beginning to be felt as teachers integrate this new technolog y into their teaching. However, in the early stage of education the use of ICT in teaching looking at the experience of the teacher in elementary level, it provides some clues to what will be the possibili-

ties and problems to this new technology.

Teachers could give many different specific example how technology changes their work. Teachers are teaching the students to create own website. In elementary level the grade six students as neophyte to this kind of learning really amazed the fast and accurate information they want to know and this ICT can be considered as preparation for them to a higher level of education.

Several teachers used power point and other computer program to improve their presentation of material to class,

they explained that technology enabled teachers to give more materials to students and also eliminated several basic problems like poor handwriting, poor artistic skills, contrast and visibility.

Students go to laboratory to collect their data using computer. Learning is becoming almost natural in everything that teachers do because information is becoming more easier to access. Today, almost students in kinder, elementary level are no longer new to ICT because at an early stage of their eduction,they are already exposed to this modern technology.

We are indeed in great sadness over the unimaginable loss of a visionary in the Tourism industry, a mentor, colleague and a friend to many. One of his beliefs in life was the importance of being authentic with people, saying what needs to be said and do what’s need to be done especially if it concerns his family and profession.

Director Butch and his beautiful spirit will live through the love of his lifehis son, Aldrich. We are witnesses of the great love and bond this father and son share for the last 16 years.

His tourism programs and projects in the provinces he has served will speak of how great this man is. Our hearts are aching but heaven is one star brighter.

How do we describe the most self-less person we know? How do we explain the multitude of ways he made us feel better of ourselves, or how he never missed the opportunity to encourage us? These are just words to magnify how great this man is….but these are real life experience of how he is greatly loved.

It’s a festival where most if not all cities and provincial festivals in the region will show together in Pelaez sports center during national tourism week last year.. he makes all things possible with our publications BusinessWeek Mindanao as the lead organizer to handle the event.. we both coordinated the LGUs and even to the RDC/NEDA, making the said festival a reality and even adopted as the official festival in the region.. but due to some considerations in dealing with the NCIP it was not realized...Dir.
