CHR-11 slams ambush of police officers in DavSur DAVAO CITY-The Commission on Human Rights in the Davao region has condemned the ambush of police officers in Bansalan, Davao del Sur staged by the New People’s Army (NPA) last week that killed four cops and injured another.

In a press statement, CHR-11 also expressed sympathies to the families

of the victims.

“We will continue to work with the authorities so that the full force of the law will be applied against the persons responsible for these human rights violations,” the CHR-11 said.

The agency added that it is currently conducting its own investigation and is continuously monitoring

Davao Light customer and payment services open on March 16 and 17 Davao Light and Power Co.’s frontline services will be available to serve the public on March 16 and 17, both declared as non-working holidays in Davao City in celebration of the 80th Araw ng Davao.

The electric utility’s full service centers in SM Lanang Premiere and SM City Davao in Ecoland will be open to accept payment and customer services from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Meanwhile, Davao Light’s Ponciano office will accept payments from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM and from 7:00 AM

to 5:00 PM for customer services.

Toril and Calinan payment offices will be open on the said dates from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon, and from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM. Meanwhile, the company’s Panabo branch and the accredited collection office in Sto. PHL’s first chocolate museum opens in Davao DAVAO CITY -- The producer of the internationallyawarded Malagos Chocolates has opened the country’s first Chocolate Museum in Malagos Garden Resort in Calinan, this city.

The museum complements the Malagos Cacao Farm, which straddles 30 hectares of 50-year-old rehabilitated cacao trees.

Charisse Puentespina, project director and head of Charisse Puentespina Designers and Associate, said the opening of the Chocolate Museum is the “newest attraction in Davao City.”

Aside from attracting visitors, Puentespina is hoping it would encourage other farmers to grow cacao and engage in sustainable farming.

“What we are proud of about the museum is the ‘tree to bar’ (chocolate) experience,” said Puentespina.

“Once harvested, the cacao beans are brought to the plant where we do the chocolates so that in terms of traceability, one is sure that what they are eating is safe, she added.

Puentespina, who is also in charge of production, said they want to share their cacao growing and cacao making procedures to the public.

She said the plant is able to produce 15 tons of chocolates a month but “we hope to to increase production with the additional equipment and technology.”

The plant is still halfmechanized as there are still portions that are manually

operated.

Puentespina said the task is challenging. However, she said their foremost objective is to provide a venue to educate the youth on sustainable farming and chocolate production.

The company’s chocolate maker, Rex Peuntespina, said the entrance to the museum includes a welcome information about the “tree to bar” concept, which is “very unique” compared to other museums abroad.

“We should be proud that raw materials in foreign countries that have museums showcasing chocolate-making, like in Europe, source their raw materials from us,” he said.

At the museum, the company teaches people how to

appreciate dark chocolates.

“We show them how chocolates are made from scratch (as well as) the practices in the farm,” he said.

He said it is a “must-see” in Davao City as the tour can be capped with the “make your own chocolate” in the demo area.

The Malagos Chocolate is a 2-Star Winner (3-star highest) at the 2016 Great Taste competition, the “Oscars” of the food world, held in London last August. In April 2016, it won a silver award for Best Unflavoured Drinking Chocolate at the 2016 Academy of Chocolate Awards in London.

Filomena Cental School Pupils participates the Art’s Month Celebration organized by private institutionYAPIS (The Youth Advocators Productive Integrated Service, Inc.) and supported by the local government of Iligan City headed by the city councilor Hon. Sorelie Sol Bacsarpa. National Art’s Month is celebrated every February which was declared by Presidential Proclamation No. 683, signed on January 28, 1991 by former President Corazon Aquino. With this year’s theme, “Malikhain. Mapagbagong Filipino”, underscores “the creative power of the arts and its role as a catalyst for change. It also highlighted arts as a reflection of the nation’s soul, and from it

our pride of being Filipino”, according to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). The heritage is not complete without celebrating and recognizing each talent and that contribute to the richness of the local culture.

Workshops on music, dancing, photography, and canvass painting were conducted in different venues before the kick-off happens at City Public Plaza on February 22 & 24, 2017.

Different events, activities and shows were organized to highlight the artistry of Iliganons. Festivities feature the artistic skills of participants through exhibits on photography and canvass painting in an open category; and competitions of float parade which was

Enabling pupils to love reading

But, sad to note that some of the pupils are slow when it comes to reading, others are even having difficulty in reading. That is why, this posts as a big challenge to us teachers on how we can ably capacitate pupils to know how to read, even further capacitating them to love reading.

The aim of teaching is to bring about behavior change in the learner and this requires an effective management and control of the teaching – learning environment and processes.

Classroom management and control are skills which are central to effective teaching and can be acquired through professional training and experience. It is also greatly linked to the teacher personality traits. Classroom management is a crucial variable in the practice of teaching because it supports the proper execution of curriculum development, creates conducive learning atmosphere, maintains discipline in class and ensures that classroom lessons run smoothly despite disruptive behavior by students.

Classroom behavioral problems oftentimes come

from different issues and oftentimes it comes from different causes. There are many reasons why discipline can be a problem in a classroom.

One of the reasons could be teaching style. If a teacher is not reaching every one of the students, they can become bored, disinterested and restless. Every student has their own learning style and an area where they excel. If the teacher can reach these students by using a variety of methods, they are motivated and less likely to cause trouble. Another reason for discipline issues is that a teacher may be dealing with students with many personal problems such as poverty, broken family, abused, and others. The best way to respond to a discipline problem in the classroom is to understand the root of the issue. It needs managerial skill of the teacher to have a conducive classroom environment.

Adequate drinking water, hygiene and sanitation are all essential ingredients to ensure human health and development .The same is true to proper water waste management, which is also pre-requisite to environmental health. Improving these services will bring economic resilience given increasingly variability.

Other factor that hit global sanitation and requires urgent attention is the water

man contact with hazards waste as well as the proper treatment and proper disposal of sewage or water waste. Hazards can be either physical, microbiological, biological or chemical agents of disease.

Adequate sanitation together with good hygiene and safe water are fundamental to good health and to social and economic development. Improvements in one or more of these three components of good health can reduce the rate

of morbidity and severe of various disease and improve the quality of huge people particularly the children .Lack of sanitation lead to disease. Disease associated with poor sanitation are particularly correlated with poverty. Taking all these three essential ingredients safe water, sanitation (including water waste) and hygiene must be given priority in the health communities which presently puts to much focus on curative approaches.

The upper urinary tract is composed of kidney and ureters. Infection in the upper urinary tract generally affects the kidney which can cause severe symptoms.The lower urinary tract consist of bladder and the urethra. Urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection involving the kidneys, ureters or urethra these are the structures that urine passes through before eliminated from the body.

Symptoms are strong frequent urge to urinate, cloudy, bloody, strong smelling urine, pain or burning sensation when urinating, nausea or vomiting, muscle ache and abdominal pain.

Effective drug education is important because young people are faced with many influences to use both legal and illegal drugs. Education can play a correcting role in shaping a normative culture of safety, moderation, and informed decision making. Engaging students in

drug education activities assists them to make healthy and safe choices, identify risky situations, and develop strategies to prepare them for challenging situations.

Owners, parents and guardians are hereby liable for allowing minors to operate /drive any type of vehicle. Education for all

In my voyage to the glimmering face of tomorrow, I take a single step at a time.

But with pure diligence and exceptional patience, I believe billowing my dreams would be easy. At one stop I met hindrances and hurdled all the way but someone like me with an undying spirit to succeed worships no impossible but faithfully believes on what is able. Thus, right from the very start of the journey, it is the study that lightens the path, it is the schooling which carves the promise, it is the education that will push you to pursue and most importantly, it is the education which nurtures the minds.

Many have the privilege to attain it. Those parents who are doctors, lawyers and other professionals like teachers have the great chances of sustaining the

educational needs of their children. Education has always been a part of our lives and will always be until the end of time.

But looking outside the window, those who scavenge trash bins at night and push “karitons” at day time don’t seem to prioritize it. The instinct of having three meals a day is far more important than any other thing in this world. In the perspective of other people, they are outcasts in the bright future for they don’t have future at all.

But in the field of education, no one is outcast. Everybody belongs to its provision. In our palm lies the sweet taste of a brighter side of life. The sweet taste that all should have.

Conversely, education chooses no one. It is free to all and is not impossible to reach. It is simply a goal to aim and a trophy to win. No

one is exempted. Everyone who comes to it secures themselves a fruitful life.

And everyone who passes it until the last generation promises an offspring with an everlasting gift.

Whether the path to take is smooth or bumpy, we should always remember that it is the only road towards our desired destination – the future. After all, the condition of the road doesn’t matter, the important thing is we will arrive where we want to go. And thus along the way, it is essential to carry education with us. It has always been a gear to ease our way throughout the journey. In the end, we would thank our parents a whole bunch for they were right that education is the light and the key. Education brings empowerment to all and hopes to those who are hopeless.

If the teacher can reach these students by using a variety of methods, they are motivated and less likely to cause trouble. Another reason for discipline issues is that a teacher may be dealing with students with many personal problems such as poverty, broken family, abused, and others.

The best way to respond to a discipline problem in the classroom is to understand the root of the issue. It needs managerial skill of the teacher to have a conducive classroom environment.
