DepEd to schools: ‘Keep graduation rites simple’ plan, or from schools with permit to operate Senior High School 2014, or from International schools with K to 12 program. Graduates are entitled to a high school diploma. The closing ceremonies, or Moving Up, should be simple involving only the learners, the parents, and
the school. The DepEd also reiterated that non-academic projects such as attendance to field trips, film showing, junior-senior promenade, and other school events should not be imposed as requirements for graduation or completion.
“Too much work will kill you.” Sen. Grace Poe issued this stern warning as more Filipinos may be working their way into an early grave. Poe filed Senate Resolution 316 seeking a legislative inquiry into the dramatic rise in the number of overworked Filipinos--employed persons who worked for more than 48 hours a week-in the past 20 years. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), based on the report on Decent Work in the Philippines, indicated that there were some 8.105 WOMEN’S MONTH. The women legislators took over Congress on March 6, 2017 in commemoration of Women’s million overworked FiliMonth where Misamis Oriental second district Rep. Juliette Uy was designated as a Deputy Majority Leader for the pinos in 2015 in primary

Employed persons with excessive hours of work per week in all jobs were around 8.845 million in 2015, higher by 4.5 percent or 378,000 from the 8.467 million in 2005. “Several studies have shown that excessive work hours could trigger serious health problems and even cause death. Chronic overworking, as various research suggest, can lead to threatening levels
THE Department of Education (DepEd) is reiterating its call to all elementary and secondary schools to keep its graduation or completion rites simple. In the recently issued Department Order (DO) No. 8, series 2017, Secretary Leonor Briones said that this is in line with the govern-
ment’s austerity program. “Graduation rites should be simple but meaningful which encourage civil rights, a sense of community and personal responsibility.” Briones added, “While these rites mark a milestone in the life of the learners, these should be conducted without excessive spend-
ing, extravagant attire, or extraordinary venue.” For school year 20162017, the DepEd is announcing the conduct of the following end of school year rites: • Graduation ceremony for Grade 6 learners who completed elementary education and are entitled to
an elementary certificate • Moving Up or completion for Grade 10 learners who completed Junior High School and are entitled to a Junior High school Certificate • Graduation ceremony for Grade 12 learners from schools with DepEd-approved K to 12 transition

CEB resumes daily operations in Surigao LEADING Philippine carrier Cebu Pacific Air (PSE: CEB), through its whollyowned subsidiary Cebgo, resumes regular flights to and from Surigao City. Cebgo resumed commercial operations on its Surigao route on March 11. Cebgo
operates two daily flights via Cebu, with the first flight departing at 10:25 a.m., and the second at 1:35 in the afternoon. Cebgo resumed regular flights following a thorough assessment of the Surigao Airport runway, which
had been damaged after a magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck the city last February 10, 2017. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) had earlier released a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) restricting operations at the
Surigao Airport after the quake partially damaged the 1700-meter runway. CAAP noted then that repairs may take between 28 to 30 days. “After assessing the repairs done on the Surigao Airport runway, See resumes, page 7
