Duterte urges councilors to keep public interest in mind at all times President Rodrigo R. Duterte urged local elective officials to be guided by the noblest intentions and to keep in mind the public’s interest at all times despite unrelenting criticism. Speaking before the Philippine Councilors League’s 10th National Congress at the World Trade Center in Pasay City on Wednesday, March 8, the President reminded councilors that national progress relies immensely on peace and order at the local level. “I hold it as an article of faith that ... no progress and development can take place ‘ pag ang lugar mo magulo at maraming krimen . Tandaan ninyo ‘ yan ,” the Chief Executive said in his speech. Duterte , who served lengthily as a mayor and vice mayor in Davao City
before he became President, reminded the councilors not to be swayed by critics, who are out to smear the government’s efforts to initiate meaningful change. “Wala ka nang magawa eh so except to shut up. Managing bullying By Maricor Tejada
Bullying is when a person is picked on over and over again by an individual or a group or group with more power, either in terms of physical strength or social standing. Two of the main reasons people are bullied are because of appearance and social status. Bullies pick up on the people they think don’t fit in, maybe because of how they look, how they act (for example kids who are shy and withdrawn), their race or religion, or because the bullies think their target behaves different. Bullying is a serious issue. In a school setting, not only pupils who get bullied but also the teachers and others. It is not healthy because it breaks and affects relationships not only with the pupils and the
teachers but also to the teachers and with fellow teachers. Thus, bullying must be addressed properly. Teachers should be ready to inject measures and schemes on how to handle and manage bullying, at all times. As teachers, we should always keep in mind and we should always remember that it is the welfare of our pupils that we should prioritize of. Children are sensitive and are more prone to it. The best thing we can do is to manage and handle it by first and foremost, communication. We should communicate with both sides and with communicating we can establish a good relationship, good rapport with our fellows. And the best, at the end of the day, the most important thing is our relationship to our fellows.

NABUNTURAN, Compostela Valley - A one of a kind Gold Museum will soon rise in the capitol grounds of Compostela Valley in Nabunturan town. Compostela Valley Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy led earlier today the groundbreaking ceremony of the first-ever Gold Museum in the Philippines during the celebration of the 10th Bulawan Festival and the 19th founding anniversary of the province.
Together with the Governor during the groundbreaking ceremony were Vice Governor Manuel Zamora, Representative Maricar Zamora and Department of Tourism (DOT) Region XI Director Roberto Alabado. Governor Uy emphasized that the PhP 170-million museum will be opened in 2019 with funds under the Tourism Infrastructure Economic Zone Authority (TIEZA). The governor said that the museum will feature
the processing of gold and other minerals found in the province; and how it became one of the bustling industries in the province. “When Typhoon Pablo hit us, mining became the alternative source of livelihood; and is now the second biggest industry in the province next to agriculture,” he said. According to the data from the Provincial Tourism and Investment Promotion Office, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau
(MGB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) records an estimated gold reserve in the province of around 181.745 million metric tons. Governor Uy disclosed that different scientists, experts, curators and even Kublai Milan are being tapped for the museum. READING IS THINKING By ARIEL G. BAIGAD Teacher I Patpat Elementary School Patpat, Salimbalan, Baungon, Bukidnon
Children are the reason why teachers prosper in their chosen profession, the reason why many of us aimed to learn every new strategy that is being introduced to us by our department. Today, the reading readiness of these school children was also the main problems that a primary teacher is facing from the opening of the school year until the year ends. Reading is THINKING! Many children can read but find it hard to comprehend. After the learner reads, he/ she SUMMARIZE. He tries to determine the important ideas from the story reads. After it, he/she is looking for the clues from the text. He/she wants to get the evidences from the context, which upon reading a child can get. Using the clues, inferring was used to make
sense of his reading. A child may also ask questions about her/his readings because he might wonder of so many things. It will lead then to creating mental images of what he/she reads. In their mind, they can picture out so many things that will connect them to what they know for better understanding. After connecting all those what he/she internalized upon reading, he can now use clues to infer what may happen next..he can predict. No matter how a child read the phrase, story or a selection, without understanding the context will mislead the learner’s better understanding. It is therefore important that the teacher will facilitate the very need of the child. And this is on how to understand what he/she reads, to let guide the learners to think in order to understand.

How to Enhance Progress for Struggling Readers? By EDEN B. ESTRADA Teacher I Patpat Elementary School Patpat, Salimbalan, Baungon, Bukidnon
Reading is one of the basic tools for the learner to go to another level. But there are so many nonreaders especially in the remote areas. Probably, many factors are to be considered for this. To enhance the progress for struggling readers is very important. The following have to be considered in enhancing progress for struggling readers: Structured Teaching. Specialist interventions is needed when it comes to failing readers for it cannot be resolved in the ordinary class teaching. When an evidence-based
programme is selected, it should be taught with fidelity. A highly structured, systematic approach has been found to be the most effective. Systematic Teaching of Phonics. Synthetic phonics emphasises a part-to-whole approach, letter by letter phonological decoding; the child learns to sound and blend the sequential letter sounds. Sounds are learned in isolation and blended together (/c/a/t/). In analytic phonics the sounds are not learned in isolation but a phonic element is identified from a set of words in
which each word contains the particular sound to be studied (e.g. how are these words alike? pat, park, push, pen). This is a wholeto-part approach. Literacy in Early Childhood and Primary Education (p128). The synthetic approach tends to emphasise the segmenting and blending of sounds early on in reading development, while the analytical approach tends to start with the whole word and break it down. Teaching Sight Vocabulary. Many struggling readers have phonological processing difficulties (Castles & Coltheart, 1993) and there is evidence that skilled readers access a store of words or visual patterns
when reading (Baron and Strawson,). High frequency words are words that occur frequently in text, for example the, what, this. Automatic recognition of these words (also called having a sight vocabulary) helps learners to improve fluency, make use of context clues and focus more on comprehension than on decoding. A lot of high frequency words have irregular spelling patterns and sounding out these words can be frustrating and even sounds pointless. These are only three among ten approaches in enhancing progress for struggling readers that we teachers may use to help the needy children.
The Essence of Patriotism By ROSALIA C. FLORES
Patriotism -loyalty to one’s country, is a word signifying strength, courage and devotion. A patriot is someone who loves, supports and is prepared to serve his or her country. Patriotism is not just a saying we love our country, it’s a lot more than that, like every relationship patrio-
tism also demands loyalty, honesty, care and love. There are different ways to love this emotions, different countries, cultures and even people belonging to similar cultures, areas and religious use different ways to show patriotism. Patriotism is a broader term that needs to be understood and demonstrated in its true sense. It is actually
striving that our country shall be righteous as well as strong. As responsible citizen we can do the following : to be a faithful citizen, respect the flag and the people, obey civil laws, be educated and promote awareness about education, conserve our natural resources, make our country atmosphere healthy and safe by reducing pollution,
respect freedom of our own and others. We are like soldiers in our own way of showing our patriotism to our country. Soldiers fight, offer their lives for the love of the country which profession they embraced to defend our country from invaders and to all who wants to destroy and dismantle the peace of our nation.
Sports in Schools By Daryl P. Crismundo-Teacher III Don Carlos Central Elementary School
Sports is an important activity. It promotes healthy body and sound mind. Learning about Sports is also a kind of knowledge not just learned inside the four corners of the classroom, but mostly in an arena or wide ground for it apparently needs physical movement.Sports is defined as an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which
an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Sports is discussed under Physical Education subject, or the so-called MAPEH. It tackled about the physique of the human body and further allows psychomotor learning in a movement exploration to promote health. There are lot of benefits in giving importance to Sports. Studies
showed that kids who are active in school sports are fitter, have healthier body weights and are more confident. The risk of having chronic diseases is lower among physically active people, which makes it all the more important for children to appreciate the importance of physical activity at a young age.It is true that some parents discouraged their children to engage
in Sports while studying, in order to build concentration in studies. What they do not know however, is that engaging in sports is also one way to entice children to attend school. Having interests and doing them give good impact to students. Hence, instead of preventing children to pursue their aspiration in Sports, parents must support their children in fostering athletic skills and abilities.
Promoting Healthy Lifestyle Among Learners By Shirley C. Baldosano-Teacher III Don Carlos Central Elementary School
Understanding lessons daily is an essential point for a student to excel in class. Fitness play big role for a child to have a sound mind and be attentive during class hours. Thus, parents should be knowledgeable enough to promote healthy living to their children, even at an early age. Physical fitness and wellness will help them to succeed in their academe life and thus, students should be reminded of the things
below. The human body is very important in order to perform tasks is everyday life. It is also our bodies that are home of tiredness after an all day work. Thus, it is very essential to take good care and give much value to our body. Following are some of the tips that can help maintain our body fit and healthy.Having a regular exercise is the answer for health and wellness as well as stress relief. In an article published online,
it is said that the time span for one exercises depends on a person’s age and condition. He should start low and go slow, but he could try to work up to 20 to 30 minutes at least three times a week. If able, trying to get 30 to 60 minutes of exercise 4 to 6 times per week is also good to prevent heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, and depression. Getting enough sleep is also best way to a fit lifestyle. It is an avenue to give rest and time out for
your body. Most people need about 6 to 8 hours of sleep each night. Sleep is right up there with diet and exercise as an important part of health and wellness.Being mindful of emotional health. Health and wellness also means a healthy emotional and social life. It is important to take time for yourself. People are social animals, so maintain supportive social relationships is a must. Create a problem-solving partnership. Let your child develop his own relationship with the teacher. This is one of the first relationship with adult your child may have outside the family unit. Let the relationship develop without interference. Try not to drag-think your child as a brilliant. You have to trust that your teacher will come to know what’s important to herself.
ery of education. There are problems in classes brought about the conflict or problem in understanding language. For instance is when some terms in a discussion are strange to students. This could further divert them in understanding the whole lesson. In result, students performs poor during class.
Mother Tongue-Based Multilinguistic Education is created in order to address such student problem. It is a program of education department that uses mother-tongue language in conducting classes for earlier levels of education. The mother-tongue also served as best tool in learning to speak other languages such as English and Filipino, the

The education department even classified materials of these methods as modern teaching tools, that could accompany the teacher and student interaction to make teaching effective and encourage fastpaced learning. Reading is considered one of the roots enticing a child to appreciate learning through allowing a child to created pictures in mind and analyze what the
reading is about. Thus, it is important that on a young age, children should be exposed to different reading materials. Might it be an electronic book which is the popular these times, or even a hard or softbound young adult books, fairytale stories or even simple materials displaying a mix of pictures and texts. Educational videos which are shown either on a particular time slot of a channel or are being saved on a disc

Build A Bridge to Extend Parents Involvement In School Activities and Their Children Education By Rosalie G. Ormillo-Teacher III Don Carlos Central Elementary School
Study shows that children are more likely to succeed academically and less engaged in violent behavior if their families are involved in their education. Many parents say however, they are unwelcome and uncomfortable in their children’s school. Teacher often feel under attack by highly in-
volved parents. There’s a big gap both sides and it’s an obstacle for both to achieve good relationship between teacher and a parent and also the child. Negative thoughts will poison the good intention for a better environment in the classroom conducive to learning. Communication is the key

to eradicate this unpleasant situation. But How ? Build a bridge to extend parents involvement in school activities and their children education. Learn how to bridge the gap. Make a dozen of activities to promote involvement of parents in school and in the classroom. It is also found that parental involvement is more important to student success at day- by -day grade level than family income or education. Educators need to be willing to recognize the extend disconnection as precondition of involving families in their children education by building the bridge.
1. Be sure the first to contact with parent is a positive one. 2. Communicate with parents straight forwardly and simply avoiding educational” jargon”. 3. Ensure that all parents have regular access to clear, concise and easily readable information about their children’s school and classroom. 4. Ask parents to share their concerns and opinion about school and then address those concerns. 5. Accommodate parents’ work schedule 6. Accommodate language and cultural differences.

DA-10 joins the observance of Rabies Awareness Month
The month of March marks the observance of the Rabies Awareness Month. In line with this, the Department of Agriculture (DA) intensifies the campaign on responsible pet ownership to prevent and eliminate Rabies – one of the most deadly animal disease that kills more or less 200 Filipinos yearly. Although it is 99.9 percent (%) fatal, it is 100 % preventable. With the theme, “Rabies Iwasan, Alaga’y Pabakunahan,” the National Rabies Prevention and Control Committee (NRPCC) in coordination with DA and various Local Government Units (LGUs) will conduct a mass rabies vaccination all over the country, this month. In the case of Cagayan de Oro City, the City Veterinary
Office (CVO) will conduct a free mass vaccination on the following dates and barangays: March 1 at San Simon, March 3 at Baikingon, March 7 at Iponan, March 8 at Balulang, March 10 at Indahag, March 11 at Bugo, March 14 at Cugman, March 15 at Tablon, March 17 at Agusan, March 21 at Puerto and March 22 at Balubal. According to Dr. Ma. Teresa B. Roa, Regional Rabies Coordinator of DA-RFO10, they have received a total of 100,000 doses of Rabies vaccines from the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and have distributed them to the different provincial and city veterinary offices in the region. She reported that Region 10 ranked 6th in the most
number of animal rabies cases in the country. Out of the 114 samples submitted for laboratory testing, 44 were found out to be positive. Moreover, Cagayan de Oro City ranked 6th in the list of the most number of
animal rabies cases by cities with 19 positive cases out of 55 submitted samples. The data was collected through the submission of Rabies case reports and dog head samples submitted to DA’s Regional Animal Dis-
ease Diagnostic Laboratory (RADDL). Dr. Roa informed that in R-10, the province of Camiguin maintained its status as a Rabies free province. She further encouraged pet owners to vaccinate their
pets two weeks before bringing them to the province. Finally, she also urged owners to bring their pets to their nearest provincial or city veterinary offices or to RADDL for free vaccination. # (AMBManto, DA-RFO10)

Biblical reflection
This is God’s nature who is available always The Gospel of Jesus Christ (March10, 2017-Friday) John 6:2229”The next day the crowd that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other small boat there, except one, and that Jesus had not entered with His disciples into the boat, but that His disciples had gone away alone. There came other small boats from Tiberias near to the place where they ate the
bread after the Lord had given thanks. So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they themselves got into the small boats, and came to Capernaum seeking Jesus. When they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?” Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs,
but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal: Jesus did not accompany with his disciples to rest in somewhere because of his mercy to the people who followed him. He wanted to become available in all
the times and in fact; this is God’s nature who is available always now and forever. Are we available to anyone if they need our presence? Imitate Jesus by being available to the people always although he was tired physically. He thought the welfare of the people and not himself. This is a selfless love which means; to suffer for the sake of the other. To die in order that others might
live. To be a looser in order that others will win. This is very opposite to selfishness which means; self preservation of everything and accumulation of all things for the welfare of oneself. Are you familiar with these two attitudes? Where do you belong? Printing paid by: Edith Ranoa - Jordan and Crespina Ranoa Bobong Balino– Cagayan De Oro: # 09187148435: Listen to me via Thunder

Enhancing mathematical skills among students By Roselyn C. Silvidad Teacher III Dampil Elementary School
Mathematics is a school subject that to truly understand, requires application of critical thinking and analysis. This subject is defined as an abstract study evolving on topics such as quantity, structure, space and change. In addition, it involves mathematical symbols that sometimes cause confusion to students. Because of that, cheerless to say, not everyone loves the subject. Fact be told, Math is one subject that is necessary to be passed in schools, in order to climb to another grade level. Thus, students should enhance their mathematical

township development project in Davao City will be the first to host a hospital. It would be the first in Mindanao that is also geared towards medical tourism, he said. To rise in a one hectare lot, LPDHI is a 250bed capacity facility and equipped with top of the line equipment. It will have orthopaedic , nephrology and dermatology departments and about 100 doctors’ clinics. The hospital will also have a wellness center that will include a spa, fitness gym and swimming pool. The ground area will have coffee shops and restaurants. Conrad A. Adena , Jr., senior vice president for operations and administration of LPDHI said they decided to put up another medical facility in Davao City because of its strategic location. Adena assured that medical fees will be lower compared to hospitals in Singapore and Malaysia, yet offers the best medical service. Dr. Frank Guillano, a member of the board of directors of LPDHI, said the nephrology center will be the biggest in Mindanao as it will house 60 dialysis machines. Guillano said they felt the need to open a Kidney Center given that many people are seeking dialysis to treat kidney disease. However, he said they are also incorporating advocacy
skills. Enhancing such skills starts from beginning, like determining the basics and familiarize them. It is important to understand mathematical concepts and facts, and as well, make logical connections between these two. In an article published online, Mr. Peter Alfeld, an instructor at University of Utah in United States, introduced ideas on how to improve mathematical skills. First he said is that one should understand mathematics in a simple way. It means that one does not have to memorize recipes, formulas, definitions or theorems. Clearly, there must be some
starting points for explaining concepts in terms of simpler concepts. Problem solving is the next thing that students found hard and confusing. However, the most important thing to realize when solving difficult mathematical problems is that one never solves such a problem on the first attempt. Rather, one needs to build a sequence of problems that lead up to the problem of interest, and solve each of them. The best tip in enhancing mathematical learning is to acquire mathematical understanding. Alfeld said that it is better to always strive for understanding as opposed to memorization. If it means reviewing all way
back square one, then do it. It should be remembered also to never be bothered clarifying what confuses you, because once unclarified, many other topics will come confusing after it. Reading books is also another way to enhance one’s learning abilities in mathematics. Perhaps, one has already learned so much, but it is best to always leave space for new explorations. Math might be a challenging subject, and order for one to conquer it is through understanding its subparts in full. In addition, a good studying habit is a great help. It just takes right amount of understanding and discipline in order to be successful in this challenging subject.

Class 107-2016 “Himagsik”, was immediately buried after pre-ritual burials following the Muslim tradition and customs. Based on the report, the police team left at around 6:30 a.m. on board a patrol car for Sibayan, which is about 12 kilometers from Bansalan town proper to investigate a reported crime incident the night before. A murder case was relayed to the police by Sibayan Barangay Captain Eddie Dicdican. The route was initially cleared, prompting the police team to proceed to the area early morning. However, before reaching the crime site, armed men attacked the team. Gapay said they are still determining the motive of the attack considering that the usual targets of the NPA are military forces. Police Superintendent Marcelo Morales, deputy director of the Police Regional Office-11, said it was unfortunate that the ambush happened when the police was responding to a crime incident. The ambush happened about a hundred meters from the scene of the murder incident. “Tumutulong lang sila . Sila pa ang nabiktima (They were just helping yet they were the victims),” Morales said during Wednesday’s AFP-PNP Press forum at Task Force Davao headquarters. (PNA)

Villarin, one of the authors of HB 5159, said the bill aimed to ensure that all private and public hospitals would admit patients in emergency situations — including women in active labor and at risk of miscarriage— without requiring a deposit fee. “We want to save more lives. Buhay ang nakasalalay dito. Ang pera, kayang tawaran. Ang buhay , hindi ,” Villarin said. Upon conviction in court, hospital owners can face from four to six years of imprisonment, and/or fines ranging from Php 500,000 to Php 1,000,000, aside from damages that may be awarded to the patient- complainant .
Instilling respect among pupils By Lluiler M. Benotong
We live in a diverse nation made up of different languages, cultures, races, and backgrounds. The kind of variety can make all our lives a lot more fun and interesting, but only if we get along with each other. And to do that, we have to inculcate respect among ourselves and among our young learners, our pupils. Respect is such a broad concept that requires only treating others in a nice way and through beautiful gestures. Inasmuch as we want to be respected by others, we should also thrust respect towards others. It is a twoway process and of course, you will definitely get what you have given. Respect can be instilled among pupils by constantly reminding them the following: 1) Don’t insult

And above all, care for people. At school and at the community, it is a fact that teachers stand as second parents to our learners, that is why, we should always be careful in what we do because these young learners will tend to follow. And, as teachers, let us respect our fellows as well so that everyone will follow, but let us not only do it because it is right but because we love doing it. gress has the theme “Your PCL Advocating Genuine Peace, Inclusive Growth and Countryside Development through Federalism. Eagles NMR1 hold one stop shop for license to possess guns MORE than 300 people were grateful to the Fraternal Order of Eagles (Philippine Eagles) NMR1 Region for facilitating a one-stop shop for license to own and possess firearms for three days this week. The activity, which was held at Buffalo Restaurant in Cagayan de Oro City, ran from March 1 to 3, 2017. There were three batches who availed of the one-stop shop processing, one for each day. Processed during the event were the notarized application form, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance, police cle arance, neuro-psychiatric clearance from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Health Services 10, drug test and certificate of gun safety and responsible gun ownership seminar. Participants brought with them their NSO birth cer-
tificate, proof of billing, one government identification card and proof of income. According to NMR1 Gov. Anjun Gomez, participants are expected to get their license to own and possess firearms in two weeks’ time. “It will spare them the hassle of going to various PNP units to secure these clearances. What we are doing is a big help to them,” Gomez said. Those who attended the seminar were both Eagles and non-Eagle members, the most prominent of which was Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano. Another big project of NMR1 will be the release of 200,000 fingerlings of bangus at Sta. Ana River in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental this aturday. This time, their project partner will be the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
The Onion or the Adobo Chronicles. In summary, we have a greater role to discern what it legitimate news or which is not. We should be not selective of what we should believe to be true or not. The best way to get the right source of information is to stay connected to known reliable sites. Known mainstream media has their own websites- whether you like the news or not, you can
be assured that they have the right sources and right information. Just because you like what you read, it does not mean they are factual and credible. Sharing a suspicious article make it “legitimate” to many especially it has a thousand likes and shares. But as responsible readers and netizens, we should be more cautious by making sure that these online news or articles are from reliable sources.

Manufactured Reality: How to spot fake online sites By Gean T. Cesar (isabelapage@gmail.com)
Mainstream media and the online community have been hounded by the proliferation of hoax or fake sites especially at the height of the political season. It’s not an isolated happening here in the Philippines. United States for one, is battling with its rise that challenges the integrity of some high ranking officials. Sharon Hill, a known science writer who reports on fake news, pseudoscience, and conspiracy theories says- “the origins of “fake news” go back to the 1950s when UFO newsletters from organizations like the Aerial Phenomenon Research Organization reported on alien abductions and government cover ups”. Online experts here in the Philippines have strongly urged the Philippine Government to combat fake news site that are not only misleading and create false perceptions but indirectly affect the education system of the country- producing ill informed graduates. Fake news is on the rise in the Philippines because of the way popular social media network such as Facebookprocesses its content. Ac-
cording to experts, companies and netizens have taken advantage of Facebook’s algorithm to spread fake news, especially on the subject of politics. And let’s not forget, widespread of deaths of known personalities and celebrities who turned out to be alive- enjoying a holiday break somewhere. So how do we know if we one’s site is fake or not? Here are quick steps we have summarized for your reference: 1. CHECK THE WEBSITE’S CONNECTION TYPE. If it has “https”, it is usually more secure and there more trustworthy than sites that use “http” designation. “HTTPS” sites security certification is a process most illegitimate sites don’t bother with. 2. CHECK THE SITE’S SECURITY STATUS IN YOUR BROWSER’S ADDRESS BAR. A safe website will display a green padlock icon to the left of the website’s URL. A site that consists the connection type (“http” or “https), or the domain name itself and the extension (“com”, “net” etc). Domain extensions like “.biz” and “.info” tend to be not credible. Generally, those sites do not carry the same credibility as “.edu” or
“.gov” sites. 3. BE MINDFUL OF THE DOMAIN NAME. For example, www.inquirer. net is not the same as www. incquirer.net . Other sites mislead us by cloning a legitimate website by just one letter in its domain name. 4. LOOK FOR BAD ENGLISH ON THE SITE.
