Eternal Gardens to inaugurate Immaculate Conception Plaza in CDO park

ternal Gardens will inaugurate the Plaza of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception on Dec. 6 (Saturday) at Greenhills Park, its 10th branch and one of the best memorial parks in Cagayan de Oro City.

Activities start with a thanksgiving mass at the park at 10 am to be celebrated by Msgr. Eutiquiano M. Legitimas, PC, SSJV, parish priest of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Barangay Bulua where Greenhills Park is located. The blessing of the plaza, also to be officiated by Msgr. Legitimas, will follow immediately after the mass.

Among the special guests expected to grace this special event are Cagayan de Oro first district representative Rolando A. Uy, Cagayan de Oro City vice mayor Caesar Ian E. Acenas, members of the City Council, and other local government unit, business, and

civic leaders.

Earlier this year Greenhills Park officially became part of Eternal Gardens, a leader in local memorial park development, which currently has nine other parks located in different parts of Luzon. Greenhills Park, as the 10th in the Eternal Gardens chain, is the first outside Luzon.

Known for its promotion of religious art, Eternal Gardens has made it a company tradition to adorn its parks with plazas dedicated to saints and holy men and women. The plaza of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception at Greenhills Park pays tribute to the Blessed Virgin Mary, patroness of Barangay Bulua.

The plaza features a beautiful image of the Virgin Mary rendered in concrete by notable artist Conrado F. Balubayan.

This will be the second religious image to be inaugurated at Greenhills Park. The first

was the towering statue of the Transfiguration of Christ, another work of Balubayan, which was unveiled last October 25, 2014. Known as Eternal Gardens' symbol of excellence and a popular landmark in the cities where its branches can be found, the Transfiguration of Christ is originally designed by National Artist Napoleon V. Abueva, who executed three of the now 10 renditions of the iconic image.

The blessing of the Immaculate Conception Plaza, which will take place two days before the feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, marks another milestone for the company and for the people of Cagayan de Oro City. It also affirms the commitment of Eternal Gardens, through Greenhils Park, to provide the Kagay-anons with only the best memorial care products and services.

he regional director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Region 12, Bai Dr. Haja Shayma Zenaida Hadji Raof Laidan, welcomes all guests and delegates to the first Royal Forum on Halal Science in Lanao.

“It is time for us to succeed another level of awareness on Halal. Awareness that may lead us to better respond and put our acts together to take bolder steps in creating a momentum by harnessing science and technology for the advancement of Lanao to take part in the global Halal economy and in preparation for the ASEAN Economic Integration in 2015,” Hadji Raof Laidan said.

The world has welcomed the Halal economy, a radical opportunity many non-Islamic nations as far as United Kingdom and the rest of Europe has incessantly endeavor to gain advantage of.

We in Lanao can neither simply close our door nor can we afford to neglect this same opportunity at our own threshold. Lanao has great advantage to tap into the global Halal economy.

It is known to be the only place in the country solidly populated by Muslim Filipinos with rich cultural heritage, natural resources, and human

resources with unique entrepreneurial skills and core competences.

This Royal Forum is envisioned to inspire and motivate the people of Lanao particularly the Maranaos to foster Halal Science culture to enable them to become producers, manufacturers, suppliers and exporters of world-class products of Halal Premium Brands globally competitive in the world halal market.

One of the major highlights of the event is the launching of the DOST XII Philippine National Halal Laboratory in support to the growth of the Halal industry meeting international standards and requirements and most importantly, ensuring the halalness of the products for the benefit of the entire Muslim UMMAH in fulfilling their obligation and commitment to ALLAH (SWT) to consume and utilize only Halal food and nonfood products here on "Donya" and be in "Jannah" in the hereafter.

Aware of the significant role of science, technology, and innovation in advancing economic growth and development of a nation, clearly, the Philippine Halal industry cannot thrive in the world Halal market without strong S&T foundation. During the event, Science and

Rechanneling youthful hormonal screams

WHEN humans reach puberty, two distinct hormones are released, depending if you’re a male or a female. Males release testosterone while females release estrogen. Initially, these hormones make you feel queasy and awkward but as the longer you go through adolescence, you will feel more excited, hyperactive and stimulated all at the same time. You may feel confused or have strong emotions that you’ve not experienced before. If you do not know how to contain or channel all these excitements into positive vibes, chances are you’d go into a darker path – a path of drug addiction and

misplaced sexual awakenings. Drug addiction begets mayhem and murder, early sexual intercourse begets teenage pregnancy and AIDS. That’s why parents are there to guide their teens during this vulnerable stage. (On this note, I’d like to say kudos to the City Council for initiating an ordinance to penalize parents for the delinquencies of their kids.) If the high school teenagers find it awkward to talk about sexual things to their parents, then there are peer and guidance counselors in their schools. Parents must also encourage their kids to join peer groups at

K-pop in CDO goes mainstream

hen Liceo de Cagayan University HRM student Mary Jocel Quimno discovered that there’s no organized society in CDO of K-pop lovers like her, she presented a solution. She organized one. It was when KHIBI or the Korean Hearts Inside Beautiful Individuals was born in 2012.

Their initial goal was to gather all K-pop fans and K-pop cover groups in Cagayan de Oro in high schools, colleges and even out-of-school youth. They then organize concerts and shows, espousing K-pop culture and of course, K-pop fashion too. Pretty soon, the 1st Khibi Music Awards was held.

“We are a group of friends who share the same love and interest to Kpop who really wished to bring what Manila is organizing annually--- the Kpop Con-

vention and Kpop Nation.

Since we are too far to experience the fun that they are enjoying, we decided to join forces and bring the event very similar to the

event that they are doing there,” Quimno said.

Now on its fourth year, the Khibi Music Awards has happened eight times already or an average of one such event per quarter.

Quimno is proud to say this is the biggest and the only K-pop event of such magnitude held in Mindanao. The last one was held in November, the next one will occur in January 2015.

For the 8th Khibi Music Awards held last November 9 at Limketkai Rotunda, the following were the winners: Hot Icon (Cyryl Madrid of X-Unified), Trending Team (Syndrome in Sync), Official FB of the Year (Pink Step), Best Male Dresser (Kevin of Xite), Best Female Dresser

Panasonic ‘eco learning’ held to advance environmental education 28 November 2014, Manila, Philippines - A month after the company mobilized its employees to plant trees in Tanay, Rizal, Panasonic Manufacturing Philippines Corporation (PMPC) resumed conducting its series of Eco Learning (environmental education) Program or ELP on Friday, November 28 with one of its elementary school partners.

Led by PMPC president Nobuo Yasuhira, the company’s management and staff provided environmental lessons and inspirations to the students and teachers of Don Jose Elementary School in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

“Since the establishment of Panasonic in 1918, we have been carrying out all our activities along with our management philosophy with the basic concept of ‘company as a public entity of society’. Thus, our commitment to help create a sustainable society through environmen-

tal activities such as our ‘eco learning’ program is also an expression of the purpose of our company’s existence. The company’s brand slogan “A Better Life, A Better World” also encapsulates the same vision of pursuing a better life for each individual customer, and realizing a better world globally through its

contribution to the environment and other activities,” Yasuhira said in his message during the event.

ELP is part of the various children-oriented programs called Panasonic Kid’s School.

It is an environmental education program for children around the world with Panasonic employees as teachers

to provide lessons through a variety of local activities, such as factory tours, lessons at schools, and at Panasonic showrooms. By providing an environmental education program to foster interest in global warming and biodiversity, the children are encouraged to take specific actions to protect the global

In the Philippines, more than 11 thousand school children have already benefited from ELP, which was introduced in 2010 and with a growing number of elementary school-partners actively supporting the program. ELP activities also serve as venues for Panasonic ‘Eco Picture Diary,’ a contest in which participants describe their ecofriendly activities that they can practice in daily life.
