2 OFW families from Normin receive awards T
he families of two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Northern Mindanao were honored by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) last Monday to vie for the national Model OFW Family of the Year Awards (MOFYA) to be held on December 4 in Manila. The families of Wilfredo Ancajas (land-based) of Lugait, Misamis Oriental and Capt. Calvert Ramos (sea-based) of Linamon, Lanao del Norte received their respective plaques and cash from OWWA Administrator Rebecca Calzado. The two families were chosen for the solidarity in their family, prudent lifestyle, and moral and financial impact to the community and society. Ancajas was born in 1953 in Tubod, Lanao del Norte. He married Bernardita Damasing. The couple has four children, all professionals. Ancajas worked for 20 years as foreman piper in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in four different companies. Last June, he decided to forego his overseas job and be with his wife. Mr. and Mrs. Ancajas have four children and is proud of their achievements both in school and in their individual

profession. Wilbert graduated BS Mechanical Engineering in St. Peter’s College of Iligan and presently employed in a construction company based in Manila for six years now. Wilfredo Jr. finished BS Industrial Automation and Mechatronics at MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology. He followed his father’s footsteps and became an OFW. He previously worked in Saudi Arabia for four years as an instrument technician and is now presently employed in New Caledonia, a French territory in the Pacific, as a commissioning technician. Michael Feliciano is a graduate of an Electrical Machinery course at MSU-IIT. He works as cabling technician in Qatar and presently processing the renewal of his overseas employment contract. Joana Lou graduated cum laude BS Chemistry at MSU-IIT under full academic scholarship and is now a licensed chemist. She is a quality analyst at Nestle Company factory in Cagayan de Oro City. Mrs. Ancajas is an officer of the Handmaids of the Lord where she actively participates in every community and church activities of the group. She serves as catechist and seminar facilitator
for couples in the Family Life Ministry of the parish. Meanwhile, Ramos’s career as a seaman overseas spans 16 years. He is presently on board as a master mariner under the principal with Britoil Offshore Services Pte. Ltd. He is married to Ida Aranas, a certified public accountant. Mrs. Ramos decided to give up her work at the National Steel Corporation to devote her time in rearing and caring the children. The couple is blessed with four children, three boys and four girls, all of them are now professionals. John Daniel, the eldest and firstborn twin, is a licensed physician for internal medicine and currently pursuing further training in adult cardiology in Philippine General Hospital (PGH). He finished his degree in Medicine at the University of the Philippines – Diliman. At present, he is happily married to a pediatrician. He plans to practice in Iligan City once he finishes his training in adult cardiology. Jay Davi Ramos, the secondborn twin, is an accomplished comic book artist for Walt Disney, Marvel Comics, Time Warner, DC Comics, Dreamworks to
name a few. He graduated cum laude in UP Diliman, taking up Fine Arts in Visual Communication. He was once nominated for an Eisner Award and featured prominently in Animax. Jason Dana Ramos, third child, is married and a father of four kids. Presently, he is connected with Convergys Makati. He was once an indie composer and songwriter with an unreleased debut album that consists of 15 original songs with his cousins as bandmates. Maria Mikhaila Ramos, the youngest and oly daughter, is enrolled at PETA for Creative Musical Theater Workshop to fulfill her aspiration to become a musical stage actress. She finished her degree in Broadcast Journalism from St. Paul Univeristy in Quezon City in 2011. Mrs. Ramos helped in founding the organization of seafarers’ wives in Iligan City, the Apostleship of the Sea and its precursor, the Star of the Sea – Iligan, which provides various socio-psychological activities intended for the wives of seafarers. Capt. Ramos is now an incorporator of a manpower recruitmen agency.
