Inspirational speaker FRANCIS KONG keynotes PMAP seminar Text and Photos by MARK FRANCISCO, Assistant Lifestyle Editor
I N S P I R AT I O NA L speaker Francis Kong brought his trademark “tap the person to your right” and brought the house down at the jampacked N Hotel hall last Friday, October 3. It was the idea of the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) – Cagayan de Oro chapter led by president Wilma Magdale to bring Kong to Cagayan de Oro so he could impart the lessons that he has acquired in his lifelong quest to maximize the wholeness and poten-
tials of Filipinos, either individuals or organizations. The 250 persons who attended Francis’s Maximizing Productivity are PMAP members who are mostly HR leaders and personnel in their respective companies. Many of them come from bigwig companies such as Steag, Primer Group, COC-Phinma, DATS Technical School, Watsons and all the rest of the A-list firms in CDO and nearby places. The attendees were definitely mesmerized

by Francis’s inputs – mixing seriousness with humor and practical examples of day-to-day grind to drive hom his point. Magdale said the vision of the PMAP-Cagayan de Oro chapter
is to produce quality HR personnel and with Francis’s sharing, she is now confident that the participants can maximize productivity in their respective workplaces, which would in turn boost firmly the economy of Northern Mindanao as a whole. Although Francis is already in his 60s, his outputs are very down-to-earth and easy to understand by today’s generation. He’s giving these talks at least 300 times every year all over the world – just last September, he was in Phnom Penh to give an Asean-wide

speech. After his stint in Cagayan de Oro, he immediately went to Cebu to give a pep talk to teachers there. Francis started humbly. He was supplying wardrobe for mannequins in the early 1980s. Francis could still distinctly recall that among his clients here in the city were Gaisano and Ororama. “If I were ashamed then, I would not have reached this level of success now.”
Francis is now the author of ten selfhelp books and is the prime mover of three companies – Success Options Publishing Company, FunWorks Inc. and Inspire Leadership Consultancy. He is licensed to do the Maxwell leadership programs and the Ziglar series of the London-based Ziglar Corporation. B ecause of the preciousness of his KONG | Page C2
