o increase vegetable consumption among Filipinos and to further foster good vegetable eating habit among the young ones, East-West Seed Philippines

conducted an inter-school Pinakbet cooking challenge all over Mindanao on Friday, November 7 at the Asian College of Science and Technology (ACSAT), this city.

Ronald D. Adorable, field marketing supervisor said they have tapped schools for this year specifically Culinary and Hotel and Restaurant Management students so that they will promote vegetables and its benefits to their communities.

“Through this, we are encouraging the young ones to eat vegetables,” Adorable said.

“Aside from that, these young ones are now able to cook Pinakbet, they can cook it at home plus they can share meal with their family,” he added.

According to Adorable, 11 schools participated namely Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology, AMA Computer Learning Center- Agusan del Sur, Cor Jesu College- Digos City, STI College- Cagayan de Oro City, Caraga State University- Cabadbaran City, Green Valley College Foundation- Koronadal City, STI College- Cotabato City, Lagao National High School- General Santos City, J.H Cerilles State College- Pagadian City, Medina College- Zamboanga Sibugay, and Dipolog Medical Center- Dipolog City.

Adorable added that aside from Pinakbet, contestants also cooked one local food of their choice, still a vegetable dish.

Criteria include originality-35%, palatability-35%, presentation-20%, and affordability-10%.

“East-West Seed company is committed not only to produce vegetable seedlings but also to promote vegetable benefits and good vegetable eating habits to our customers,” Adorable said.

I just received an email from an avid follower, he is asking what to pursue first, his passion in life or a job that can give him security.

Have you been in a situation wherein you’re torn between two good things?

What’s more valuable to you? Your passion or security?

Are you afraid of taking risk?

Have you come to the point of life that you’re so confused? How about not knowing what to do?

The reason why you are confused in life because there are conflicting thoughts running inside your mind.

At a young age I am so thankful and grateful to my parents, they were able to influence me in a way that I was able to make up my mind on what I am going to be when I grow up.

It is so hard to do something, if you do not know what you are doing.

It is going to be difficult to reach your destination, if you do not know where you are going.

It is so hard to find something, if you do not know what you are looking for.

Settle this first before you move on doing anything.

You cannot move on without making a choice and a decision.

The next question you need to ask is …

URGENT OR NOT URGENT? What is more urgent for you to follow your passion or earn money immediately after graduation?

If you need to earn immediate income, I believe you need to set aside your passion and dreams for a while. Wait until you are financially stable before you pursue what you want.

But if you do not have the immediate need to earn, you can follow your passion and take your time to experiment on new things and do what you really want in life.

I know this is kinda scary, going to experiment on doing something that is new is indeed frightening.

In order for you to get started, you got to answer the next question…

ARE YOU WILLING TO TAKE THE RISK OR SIMPLY STAY IN YOUR

COMFORT ZONE? Maybe you are staying too long in your comfort zone that is cause you to feel unexcited and frustrated in life.

There is nothing exciting and nothing new that is happening in your life.

Maybe its time for you to take the plunge.

Take the risk that can help you achieve your life long dream.

Before you make a decision in life; whether it’s minor or major, you got to ask yourself. What’s more valuable to you?

Your comfort zone or your dream?

The promise of gain outweighs the fear of failure.

Financial freedom, time freedom, free to take a vacation anytime you want, free to buy the things that you really want.

If you truly want to become FREE, you just got to take risk.

THINK. REFLECT. APPLY. Have you decided on what you want to do with your life?

IT’s already the third week of November and for some reason, I just have this intuition to write about the youth of today in the region.

Maybe because I’l be judging the regional eliminations of the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) today here in Cagayan de Oro City. Or maybe there’s just many things that the youth in Northern Mindanao have

accomplished that are worth mentioning.

It’s 10:07 p.m. in the office as of this writing and I just received a text message from Cheenee Sebastian requesting a Mindanao Daily copy of the November 10 issue where their group – the SKETCH Bags feasibility project of Xavier Ecoville – was featured. The story behind the SKETCH Bags project is awe-inspiring. As early as 2012, seven Business Administration students from Xavier University already concocted a social enterprise project for their feasibility study, which is a major subject that runs through three semesters. At that time, social enterprise was still a
